Interesting. So the Red Sox's pitching staff has a better xFIP than the Yankees.

Yup.

It's the damn defense and super high BAbip that is killing us.

Ockimey has done real well after a slow first month.

Yup. It would make more sense to try him down the home stretch than Cordero IMO.

We're not actually trying Cordero.

I’m amazed you can see promise in Ockimey but have given up on Perez…

I wouldn't trade Perez for another team's Ockimey. I would trade Richards for another team's Ockimey though.

Then why waste the roster spot?

I think Cordero is the 4th outfielder right now.

As Gonzalez, Arroyo, Schwarber, etc. return, he’ll find himself headed back down the Pike to Worcester…

Then just DFA. No team ever has failed to win anything due to a shortage pf Ockimey’s

I've given up on Richards. I'd give Perez another start or two.

I'm not sure Perez can pitch from the pen, not because I think he's worse than Richards, though.

I'm clinging to hope for Ockimey, because I had him as my "sleeper prospect" two years in a row- way back when...

I think we keep Duran over Cordero, once 1B gets settled. If that is September 1st, we keep em all up.

Rosters will expand to 28 as normal on September 1 and teams will be permitted to carry an extra player for doubleheaders.

Duran sees the bulk of the time in CF. Cordero sees the bulk of the time on the bench…

I'd rather put guys like Marwin/Arroyo/Arauz/Munoz/Wong there.

Wong has already been demoted. Likely Cordero follows when someone gets activated

I'd rather see Kike in CF, as I have always felt is the best spot for him on this team.

Once Arroyo returns, Kike should be our FT CF'er.

1. Kike CF

2. Devers 3B

3. JD DH

4. Bogey SS

5. Schwarber 1B

6. Renfroe RF

7. Verdugo LF

8. Arroyo 2B

9. Vaz C

Bench:

Plawecki

Duran

Marwin

Dalbec

We're just dudes talking at the bar! Or so I've heard.

It's still not time to push the panic button fellas as ugly this could look like lately.

We are still holding one of the best records in baseball, and that is a fact.

Help is on its way and some players won't keep sucking as they do now. Also, I do not expect leaving so many LOBs per game as we did lately. We have natural clutch hitters.

At Offense Arroyo and Shwarber will join the team. By only adding them, this will boost the offense enormously. JD won't keep sucking. I'm still high on Duran, Kid will hit. Also I would call Muñoz for Dalbec.

At pitching, Houck will take a spot. Sale just pitched 81 pitches, so he is close to join the team as well. Pivetta and Rodriguez will keep us in games most of the times. Realistically we won't suck as we did the last 4 games.

The BP is still our best asset and will keep that way.

I still believe this team win the division.

What 40 man roster crunch?

C:

Vazquez

Plawecki

C.Wong

R.Hernandez

INF:

Dalbec

Bogaerts

Devers

J.Arauz

C.Arroyo

K.Hernandez

OF:

Duran

Verdugo

Renfroe

BULLPEN:

Barnes

Braiser

J.Taylor

D.Hernandez

P.Valdez

E.Bazardo

Sawamura

A.Davis

STARTERS:

Sale

Eovaldi

Houck

Whitlock

Pivetta

Perez

C.Seabold

B.Mata

J.Groome

Added to the 40 man:

J.Downs

G.Jimenez

B.Bello

J.Winckowski

D.Feltman

K.Crawford

V.Santos

----That’s 37 players, leaving 3 spots open (did I overlook someone?) NOTE: I’m assuming JD opts out. Also: I'm not sure about Feltman making the 40 man roster, he might be kept off. I'm guessing Santos makes it, since Bloom traded for him---

As far as the open spots go, I would think the Red Sox go all out to resign K.Schwarber. They should look to add a really good bullpen arm in free agency. I’m not sure about E-Rod, he might want too much money and might not be brought back. In addition, the Red Sox have a lot of starting pitching depth and I'm not sure if E-Rod is really worth a sizeable contract.

I only have 3 outfielders on the 40 man (minus G.Jimenez) and so the Red Sox will need to get something figured out there. As far as Rosario goes, he isn’t hitting this year, but maybe the Red Sox keep him around for his speed and defense.

Free Agents:

JD Martinez

E-Rod

K.Schwarber

Andriese

Ottavino

G.Richards

M.Gonzalez

D.Santana

H.Robles

Deactivated/Released/Traded

Cordero

Rosario

Potts

Y.Rios

Assuming Sale stays healthy, I don't see the Red Sox doing much in free agency when it comes to starting pitching. Sale and Eovaldi can lead the rotation, they have the young guys who can be very good (Whitlock and Houck) and Pivetta and Perez round out the rotation. That's already 6 starters. When you look at a list of soon-to-be free agent starting pitchers, the quality is somewhat poor. As far as E-Rod goes, I'm starting to think that C.Seabold at league minimum might be better value than E-Rod making 10-15 million per year. I don't know what E-Rod will be paid, but since the Red Sox have so much pitching depth, and E-Rod isn't exactly Cy Young material, it might not make sense to resign him. If the Red Sox do resign him, it would make sense to trade Perez for a Single A lottery ticket just to get his salary off the books.

If JD opts out and the Red Sox extend Kyle S., the Red Sox will need a 1b for one year until Casas is ready.

1b: ???

2b: combination of Hernandez and Arroyo

SS: Bogaerts

3b: Devers

C: Vazquez

LF: Verdugo

CF: Duran

RF: Renfroe

DH: Kyle S.

If JD doesn't opt out:

1b: Kyle S.

DH: JD Martinez

[B]I would alter the lineup immediately due to JDM looking worn down. We don't know when Arroyo will return, but I think we know he is not playing first. We also don't know when Schwaber makes his Red Sox debut and they have already said he will play a variety of positions including left field and DH, with a try at 1st (a completely new position for him.

Lineup Now:

1. Kike 2b

2 Verdugo lf

3. Bogie SS

4. Rafi 3rd

5. JDM DH (Reluctantly as we have no one better)

6. Renfroe RF

7. Vaz C

8. Duran CF (44 AB's not enough to evaluate)

9. Dalbec 1st (Reluctantly)

When both Arroyo and Schwaber return i would alter the lineup significantly. Assuming Arroyo is primarily at 2nd but Schwaber is moved to LF,DH and experimented with at 1st base. Kike also moves around with the idea of keeping guys like Bogie and JDM rested.

1. Kike

2. Verdugo

3. Bogaerts

4. Rafi

5. JDM

6. Schwaber

7. Arroyo

8. Renfroe

9. Vaz

Bench:

Plawecki

Duran

Marwin (flexibility)

Dalbed (Reluctantly)

M.Wilson claimed by the Mariners. I don't remember what that means--can the Red Sox pull him back and trade him or do the Mariners automatically get him? I thought Wilson had a role here, a right handed bat who could get some playing time against lefties to help out Verdugo and Duran. I see him as a 4th OF who can contribute, but the Red Sox must not like him very much. The Red Sox deactivated Wilson over scrubs like Dalbec, Cordero, Potts, and Rosario and so the Red Sox probably don't even see Wilson as a quality 4th outfielder.

Wilson is gone.

They were never going to DFA Dalbec .

Rosario and Cordero make Wilson redundant. And did so to the point where his 40 man spot was more valuable than he is.

Even if they see Wilson as a viable 4th outfielder, that’s not a difficult position to fill externally…
