It was sarcasm.

Not sure why Bloom would open a spot to this guy. He sucks. He is Andriese/Workman 2.0.

1 K per inning, 1BB per 2 innings, decent .237 BA. Better than Workman.

He is a 5 ERA/FIP pitcher.

It appears Schwaber is it at the trade deadline, while our competitors were active and got either better or much better. If no more is announced, I have to feel let down for the front running Sox.

Some things were undeniable.

1. The Sox needed help at first base as none of their current options look competitive. Schwaber is not really a first baseman so it is difficult to see him as a solution when he returns from injury.

2. Our starting pitching has been weak of late with only Eovaldi and Houck looking good. We are hoping that Sale will also be effective when he returns.

3. Our BP is fairly well set but could use one more reliable arm

4. We have extra ML and prospect players who will have to be lost through DFA as we set our roster going forward.

So what were the possible takeaways from the trade window?

1. Bloom was sleeping or otherwise occupied during the trade negotiations.

2. Bloom thought the team as constituted is strong enough to win the pennant so no activity was needed

3. Bloom thought the team had no chance of winning the WS so wanted to remain below the CBT and maintain all his prospects.

4. Bloom was advised by upper management that he couldn't exceed the CBT this year.

5 The Sox trade chips were too weak to gain any interest from other clubs.

For whatever reason, I don't see the Sox as improved relative to our competitors and now are at a greater risk of losing our division lead' As I have been told, the time to strike is when the iron is hot. I am disappointed at this point and don't understand why we were so inactive.

So we traded for Workmans replacement? Could have found that in our own system

Our pen is the least of our problems. Not sure whether they are going to open a spot for this guy. Wouldn’t make sense at all.

Robles is a bum. We have way better arms in the pen.

Robles was actually good 2018-19, but barely pitched in 2020 and has been rather meh this year.

He’s probably the fifth pen option. He’s not bad for that role, but the Sox needed something more…

I would love to hear bloom’s explanation for not trading for a starter. Yes they got sale coming back but he’s coming back from TJ.

Chavis dealt for a reliever

Too bad he couldn't control his impulse to swing outside of strike zone. With his short arms, he couldn't connect.

How has he been doing this year?

I think Bloom thinks we have a chance to win it tis year and worked like hell to make as many helpful deals as he thought were worth it. He weighed what team's wanted, and didn't like any deals, except the ones he made.

He is trying to win, this year, without sacrificing much of the future. It's a dilemma almost every GM faces.

We don't know what teams wanted for all those players traded elsewhere, of if we even had enough to offer, in some cases. Maybe, if we heard what they wanted, many of us would be patting Bloom on the back for only trading for Schwarber and Robles.

I'm trusting Bloom all the way. He got us to this point, this year, when nobody thought we could do it, this quickly, and for that, he's being blasted and roasted alive. Geesh!

Chavis leaves with .549 OPS. A first rounder traded just to open up a spot on 40 man roster. We got ham sandwich in return.

Probably that the other teams wanted more than he was willing to part with.

This Chavis deal is a great deal on its own, you traded a 40 man future loss who is the odd man out with Schwarber for a pitcher who has some potential. High K numbers, we know how relievers can turn it on. It’s a good deal.

Yet, it’s also extremely disappointing and leaves one dissatisfied. This isn’t the deal that puts us over the top. This deal does very little to help the Sox this year. This deadline is a real head scratcher.

I'm more interested in what to do now.

What if Devers is out longer than we expect? We're very thin in IF unless we play Kike there. What if Xander gets hurt? Kike to SS, who plays 2B?

Still don't get the logic of not bringing back up Houck to start with normal rest. Why not skip Richards while waiting on Sale to comeback?

I’m not fan of Chavis but for a junk reliever? Really?

What did you expect for Chavis. Chavis is garbage who’s bat ha potential, hasn’t thrown it together yet. Maybe he will maybe he won’t.

He got traded for the pitcher version of himself.

Maybe, one is slightly less junky or has higher upside.

IMO we are set at the BP. Who’s spots are going to take these 2 new guys?

Davis has great Peripherals this year, his high ERA would be in the low 2’s if you literally tok out one out. Not even an inning but just one out.

I’m disappointed, I expected more. But valued alone without consideration of the Sox going for a playoff run it was a good trade. A small trade, but maybe the Sox think Davis is on the cusp of reliever greatness.

At the very least, he’s much better than workman.

Austin Davis with 4 more years of team control.

My guess is Chavis opened spot for Schwarber/Robles. Workman was DFA.
