Duran to start? I hope he isn't replacing Kike in CF.

Some are speculating Kiké to 2b, Duran to CF. I don't think they are going to make Duran and fulltime guy right now. I think he'll get a lot of opportunities, but play about 50% of the time unless he really forces their hand.

Anyone else gonna have a whiskey during the game

I will!!

I'm more of an Evan Williams man myself, depending on how you spell whiskey and if you prefer bourbon or not.

It's too bad he doesn't have experience at 1st base. I just checked his profile and he's listed as a switch-hitter and he's 25 years old. Hope he begins his SOX career like a house afire.

I'd rather have him in LF than burying his speed at 1B. It'd make more sense to move Verdugo to 1B.

Interesting about Duran because I was one of those arguing he didn't need to be brought up yet, that the Sox outfield was fine, etc. However, I trust the combined judgment of Bloom and Cora far more than mine, so clearly I was wrong.

My biggest mistake was thinking that Duran would replace one of the outfielders--Verdugo, Hernandez, or Renfroe--in the lineup. However, Hernandez can be moved to the infield so that he or Arroyo can replace Dalbec at 1b.

From what I've read, Duran is not yet a skilled outfielder and has a so-so arm. But he is fast, which definitely helps, and the Sox have had weak-armed outfielders (Jacoby Ellsbury and Johnny Damon come to mind) before. The real point is to get his lefty bat in the lineup to replace Dalbec's inconsistent righty bat.

Plus Houck is returning to Boston/Yankee Stadium.

Just guessing, but I think moving both of them up is part of an overall re-assessment of the Sox players to help Bloom determine if he needs to make a deal for outside talent.

I'm more of a home-grown guy myself. It makes the games last longer.

When would you have called him up? Next month? September? Next year?

I would have called him up entering June, maybe earlier. Chavis, Santana are lost causes. Marwin and Bobby haven't performed well all year at offense.

I bought the argument that Duran would not be brought up to play part-time because he didn't play anywhere last year and needs game experience. Plus he's an outfielder and I like Verdugo in LF, Hernandez in CF, and Renfroe in RF. So, yeah, probably a September call-up but maybe sooner.

Too me Chavis, Santana, and Marwin are irrelevant to any discussion of bringing up Duran. When Duran was announced, I suddenly realized Dalbec is relevant because I think Hernandez, who is the only successful Sox leadoff hitter this season, will move to the infield and Dalbec will ride the pine.

WIN!

I'll be golfing. Today looks like it will be the first day in July that it has not rained in Boston.

@BrendanKutyNJ

Yankees have canceled pregame batting practice as they work through COVID-19 testing and health and safety protocols.

COVID is still a thing? Thought was was a 2020 problem.

Very discouraging that Casshman said the 3 positive tests were from vaccinated players, and he expects 3 more. I don't wish the illness on any of them and the cancellations will back up the scheduling with a bunch of 7 inning DH's later, stressing the pitching further.

Encouraging though is that vaccinated people may have exposure and carry the virus but don't get noticeably sick. f***ing Chinese viral manipulators funded by f***ing Fauci's NIH.

You could have left out the last sentence; it adds nothing to your post.

Reports are that one of the additional players was a Yankee rep at the All-Star Game. That could put one or more of the Sox reps at risk as well.
