Yeah, who want a GM that almost always wins his Division.

Lol

Yeah, DD was great with the Sox. He knew when and how to push the buttons.

One of the best GMs in Sox history, no doubt.

I'm not at all surprised about LaRussa. He is a HOF manager who had a knack for winning throughout his career -- 3 World Series titles. He is an older manager, obviously, but 76 is not too old. Many people remain alert, smart, and aware in their 70s without cognitive decline.

LaRussa f***ed Yermín Mercedes' carreer possibly beyond repair. f*** him. (And I used to love the guy).
over that swinging on 3-0 stuff? Isn’t it possible that he just came back to earth. BTW, I can’t stand LaRussa. He really believes that he is a genius and I am glad that the 3 hitter minimum rule was instituted to keep him from dragging out the last 3 innings for 2 hours.

Yermin Mercedes is 28 years old and spent 9 years in the minors before he ever met LaRussa. His career has always been in question…

Bruce Bochy was another one who dragged those last 3 innings out for an eternity. Especially in September when he have a 12 man bullpen and he’d make 3 to 4 pitching changes an inning…

And leaves the team in shambles?

It's really not that difficult to pay high prices for coveted players. I could do that.

It's not hard to trade away top prospects, either.

He did keep Devers, and I'm glad he did that, and I, for one, do not have a problem with what DD did, because it got us a win and a fantastic journey in 2018, but I also knew all along, a price would be paid later, and that later is now (and 2020).

He left in 2019 and the team was in first place after 100 games in 2021 after a bad shortened 2021. I’d hardly call that a shambles, and DD would have gotten the horses to make the stretch drive. He wins wherever he goes. Bloom can only dream of having that career.

Funny.

You thought the 2021 team would lose 90 games, but that's not "shambles."

2020 was not "shambles," because it was shortened.

The end of 2019 was not "shambles," because the start of 2019 was so good.

Bloom turns things around, quickly, and DD gets the credit.

Nice try.

I don't blame Dombrowski for 2019.

There is a reason why Dombrowski was let go in 2019. Teams simply cannot operate like Dombrowski does for the long term. We would be seeing 2020 all over again if Dombrowski had stayed. The team, namely the farm system but also the financial flexibility, was in shambles when Dombrowski left.

the cliff!!!

We both knew it was coming.

We disagreed on whether 2018 and the 3 division wins in a row was worth the price, but the writing was on the wall.

I had hopes the window would last longer than halfway through 2019, but I also thought, under the current rules, it would take much longer to rebuild the farm and team that Bloom was able to accomplish.

The farm still has a long way to go, but adding Mayer and the other players Bloom has acquired has sped up the timetable more than I thought possible or likely.

Actually, I don't think we disagree on whether it was worth it or not. We won the World Series, which makes it worth it. I just think we could have had the same success without going to such extremes.

Yes, I misrepresented your position.

I, too, think we didn't have to go to that extreme, but in baseball, with no guarantees, I was okay with the overkill and enjoyed the best season the Sox have ever had.

Dombrowski wins short term because he empties the farm and maintains very high payrolls. It’s great when it works but he has also left 3 teams in very bad shape with aging talent, very heavy payrolls and barren farms. Next up - Philadelphia…

Dombrowski left the team a mess? Bloom turned things around quickly ? The players most responsible for this year's success were J.D. , Bogaerts , Devers . Eovaldi and Barnes . Our five All Stars . The guy we are looking to come back and save the day is Sale. The young guys we are hoping will help now and in the future are Houck , Duran , Dalbec and Casas. None of the aforementioned are Bloom guys. He did make a couple of pretty nice additions , but he also got rid of an outfield that was considered one of the best. Bloom did not turn things around. Bloom did not inherit a mess. Bloom inherited a lot of talent.

The true cliff was the 2021 trading deadline, apparently.

The "mess" has yet to be fixed. I see the plan, but the results aren't there yet.

Dombrowski has also been fired twice in the last 6 years. Maybe Bloom doesn’t want his career…

He left the farm a mess and a bloated budget. You did not mention Price, Pedey and others...

Had DD stayed and been given the same budget restraints as Bloom, he'd have done no better or quit.

BTW, we are 12-11 in Eovaldi's starts, this year.

We are 14-8 in Pivetta starts and 12-10 in Perez starts. (See how I left out Richards?)

We'd be crap without Whitlock, Kike, Plawecki and others.

Sure, Bloom swung and missed on many acquisitions, but with his budget, did you expect better?

Dombrowski has 2 rings and I'm guessing he's fairly comfortable financially. Not the worst.

But, Melroni says we should have bought more.

mvp seems to think we should have been one or the other - serious buyers, or sellers. Not the wishy-washy in-between thing we sort of did.

This. Coasting while the teams around you were adding is not a great idea IMO.

And no, "Sale is coming back" is not an acquisition. We started the season with a "less than" rotation because we'd only need half a season out of Perez or Richards

Bloom should want a Dombrowski career. He's had a terrific GM career.

Also, his new team is in first place.
