Not at this point. Rosters don't expand again. He gets called up if there's an injury or if Duran struggles. Don't see where he'd get AB's and that's what he needs this year.

Duran might only be up until someone returns from IL…

Living in Salem I've watched our boys quite a bit this year. I recently came across a post about Jimenez being a decently rated prospect. From what I've seen he's not that guy. And those of you who will point out his .300 avg have not seen his overall game. The kid is very suspect in the field looking shaky at times getting twisted up going back on balls. Speed is decent, however, doesn't get a great jump on the bases. Hit a looper to LF last night and tried to leg out the double and got hosed at second. Kid has some growing to do for sure. As for Yorke he seems to be coming around. Had a rough start to the season but seems to have found his stroke, avg is starting to climb. Best pop on the team is Joe " Beer League " Davis. Kid can flat out mash and has never seen a 1st pitch FB in the zone he did not like. As for pitching..... not much here in Salem.

I think it's more about future projection at that age. None of those guys are finished products. I've been to a few A ball Mets games down here and the product is just kinda ugly right now. Fielding is bad all over.

On the farm...

from soxprospects.com:

http://news.soxprospects.com/2021/07/cup-of-coffee-german-scherff-lead-sea.html

Worcester fell to Scranton for a second straight game despite a big night from Franchy Cordero. The leftfielder went 2 for 3 with a double, two walks, stolen base, RBI, and a run scored. Yairo Munoz had three hits and swiped a pair of bases, Danny Santana started his rehab stint, going 0 for 3 with a walk and a run scored. Scranton connected for three home runs off of starter Steven Gonsalves.

The Sea Dogs made it 11 in a row as Frank German continues his resurgence. He allowed one run on three hits in five innings, striking out five and walking three. After struggling through May with an 8.37 ERA, German has a 3.86 mark in 35 innings since the calendar flipped to June. The bullpen took over with four straight scoreless frames to secure the win. The most impressive of the group was Alex Scherff, striking out three in two perfect innings. Devlin Granberg and Ronaldo Hernandez both homered in their respective 2-for-4 efforts. Tyreque Reed did not record a hit in his first taste of Double-A, but the first baseman recorded a pair of walks.

Christian Koss continued to torture Asheville from his leadoff spot. After going 3 for 5 with a double, Koss is now 12 for 19 for the series and 22 for his last 48 overall. Nick Sogard reached base four times with two hits and two walks, and Dom D'Alessandro blasted a two-run homer in the sixth inning. Chris Murphy allowed three runs on five hits in six innings, striking out nine, walking two, and surrendering two home runs. Just as in the Portland victory, the bullpen was unhittable as a trio of Drive relievers went a hitless inning apiece.

Salem's rally came up just short after falling into an early 7-0 hole. The Woodpeckers reached Bradley Blalock for five runs on six hits in four innings, saddling the right-hander with the loss. Stephen Scott led the rally with a pair of doubles, driving in one run and scoring another. Nick Northcut also tallied two doubles, while Nick Yorke continues to be a catalyst at the top of the order, as he doubled, was hit by a pitch, and delivered a sacrifice fly. Yorke has reached safely in 21 straight games, raising his OBP from .311 to .381. Gilberto Jimenez extended his hitting streak to eight games with an eighth-inning single.

Devlin Granberg has continued to mash after being promoted to Portland.

GREE: 27 G, 1.058 OPS

POR: 22 G .979 OPS

He went 4 for 6 last night and has a HR in the last 3 games. Has always been projected as an org guy. Not sure how much higher his ceiling is since he doesn't walk much.

Jeter Downs is approaching the dreaded "Mendoza Line." He has struck out 64 times so far (31%). His road OPS is .551. It is becoming clearer why two organizations were willing to trade Downs. I'm always a little skeptical of prospects who have been looked over by two organizations and included in trade packages. Edited by Fan_since_Boggs

We should have just asked for Verdugo & Maeda.

He’s 22 in his first year at AAA, I’ll be converned if he’s looking bad next year in AAA at this time.

This is his 23 season.

Losing Maeda is not a big deal.

He did so well, last year (2nd in CYA), had we had him, we may not have gotten the 4th draft pick.

Yeah, next week when the MiLB season only has a month left. He will be 23 for most of next season. If he mashes at AAA and finds himself up mid-season or end of the season and gets called up at the same point as Duran he'd of been making his MLB debut at 23 years. It's not like he's a 24 year old struggling in AAA after playing at the level for a couple years.

Jay Groome from June on

K=/9 = 13.12

BB/9 = 3.46

H/9 = 6.9

Yes he's 22 in high A, but he's never really had a healthy season until now. I'd like to see him get a couple starts in Portland by the end of the year.

When Jarren Duran was Jeter Downs age he was at AA (level down) with a .634 OPS in 343 PA's.

It's fine, I just have underlying concerns considering that he's not hitting any doubles right now. Is he a pure power guy now?

Good to see. I was ready to write him off.

Duran had little power at that age, too.

I'd like to see him called up earlier than for just 2 starts.

We need to see what this kid's got.

It looks like he'll be on next year's 40, so the "urgency" is not really there, but at his age- AA is it.

I don't think there's any need to rush him at this point. He's never had a healthy, good season and he's finally getting one. I think there's value in giving him that sustained level of success. Let's imagine a hypothetical where they promote him to Portland for only 1-2 starts to end the year. Regardless of how well he performs in those starts he's going to start back up in Portland next year. If he's dominating AA ball next year he will be a 23-year-old knocking on the MLB doors at this time next year. Given everything he's gone through, and all the lost time he's had developmentally that's pretty amazing.

I'd almost rather him stay in one place and just not get injured. Let him dominate. If he can bring that to AA next year, he can move up quickly.

I see your point but feel he needs to face better batters.

@SoxProspects

Big Joe Davis went 3-for-5 in Greenville's 7-4 loss last night, his first official game with the Drive. The 24-year-old first baseman was recently promoted after slashing .333/.384/.577 with ten home runs for Salem.

Budget Niko Kavadas is doing his thing.

I'd rather have him get some personal wins under his belt. Would be nice to let him have success for a little bit.

@SoxProspects

Devlin Granberg went 2-for-4 with an RBI double in Portland's 6-3 win today. Now slashing .356/.371/.621 in 89 plate appearances for the Sea Dogs, Granberg has had two or more hits in his last four games.

Granberg has come out from nowhere this year. Bat is finally holding its own.
