So you define "softness" as "not following authority" or "exercising free agency." And "strength" as "following orders" and maybe the good old days of being essentially the property of an owner? That may be good ideology for plantation owners, or even the general of a standing army. But I don't think it should apply to modern businesses like sports. I agree with you that managing employees, teaching, coaching--all those things are more difficult now than they may have been 50 or 60 years ago.

If you can somehow deduce from what I said that there is any association with a plantation philosophy or is an implication that owners of teams owned players , then clearly you have an agenda which is fairly easy to figure out. Your comment is pathetic. You are twisting what I said to meet a perverted view of what I said. I will stand by my comment that many professional athletes are "soft" and grossly overpaid. I'm ok with you disagreeing with me but please don't twist what I said for your own reading pleasure.

It came from you calling professional athletes "soft" and "overpaid boobs." Those are your "simply stated words."

Hmm - yes i did say those words. I don't think I said anything about plantations and people owning players. Those are your thoughts and words - keep them to yourself please. I really don't like to be dragged into anyone's personal gutter.

@Rotoworld_BB

Dick Williams steps down as Reds' team president

Will the Sox be making a call?!?!?!?!?!?

Hey don't laugh. if we can have cardboard cutouts of fans in the seats, what to hey, bring back Dick and give him a shot. I have seen some past Sox managers whom I thought could be outdone by a cardboard cutout or even a mannequin in the dugout.

What if it was like the 2 Pac hologram performance at Coachella?

Or animating Peter Cushing's face over that of some unknown actor to make a Star Wars prequel...

Wait, it was only the face that was CGI?

Makes little difference. I could go with whatever.

I thought hang’em Chaim was looking closely at George Lombard.

Now I hear he is looking at kotsay.

He should look at the options. Regardless of the obvious performance of Cora, he also was tainted by the cheating scandal. Bloom has to decide if Cora should come back with that baggage.

If Cora signs with Detroit, it is a failure on the part of hang’em Chaim?

So what, offer double?

Cora may not want to come back.

Look,I'm Cora's biggest supporter, but if we try and miss out,so be it. I won't blame Chaim.

I wouldn’t blame Cora for looking for a better job. He also may need to wait a bit for the stink of the past to fade.

There’s one common thread with managers brought into a rebuild. They rarely stick around long enough to see the final product. Cora knows this and with his gravitas, he will hold out for a team on the upswing

OK. We'll forget the plantation analogy, and stick to your language: "boobs" "perverted" "soft" etc.

Maybe he is waiting to see if a job opens up in New York.

If Cora is waiting for anything, it's probably to see who gives him the most lucrative offer...

Money should not be an issue with the Sox on getting the manager they want.

The only way it may come into play is if there are 2-3 guys they like equally, then they may look at the money.

I hope we bring Cora back. You all know why. If we don't, I won't be terribly upset, as long as we get a good one.

I trust in Bloom.

Cash just had a year as a scout and a year as a bullpen coach when Bloom hired him and he worked out. We might not be getting a "name" manager...

And that is why I am sticking with my original prediction it will be Matt Quatraro.

And it makes sense that he is among the top choices but there has been no progress. Unlike a lot of the candidates mentioned, Quatraro is still working...

I think it is a good possibility. Bloom knows him well. He has been interviewed before. I don't really have any opinion on him , but it would not surprise me at all .

I know nothing about him except he played catcher, never made the Majors, managed in the minors, and is currently Tampa's bench coach, a position for which he was hired by Bloom...

I have no evidence, just a hunch, that the Cora speculation will be wrapped up quickly when his suspension ends after the World Series. He will either be named Sox manager or someone else's skipper within weeks. The Red Sox front office doesn't want to be answering Cora questions every single day. Plus I don't foresee Boston dragging out a search with a long interview procession of other candidates, as I suspect Bloom already knows his favorites, and will want to get the new pilot on board asap to provide feedback and be included in the anticipated process of roster turnover... in our coming winter of malcontent.

I suspect his favorite candidate is still actively doing his current job. That is, if you consider anything a bench coach does to be active...

Wow, what nonsense. As if Cora would turn it down if the Sox offered him his job back.

And if the Sox wanted him back strongly, they would pay him the most.
