I am aware. But hey, if they want Vazquez, that would be my price. No idea what Bloom would ask for, but the Angels are very deep with outfielders with Trout, Adell, and Jordyn Adams, along with placeholders Justin Upton and Jared Walsh. Marsh absolutely could be trade bait for them. And it’s not like they can afford to deal pitching. Like the Sox, they have too many injury-plagued pitchers already.

But I suspect no deal ever happens...

Righthand-hitting outfield prospect Jordyn Adams (and change) might be a more realistic target.

Or not.

A while ago, I proposed this very type trade on BTV, but of course, mine always turn into blockbusters.

Vaz, Beni, Pivetta & Cellucci for Adams, Sandoval & Stassi

I also proposed Beni, Chavis and Yorke for Adams.

Here's one I just posted:

He’s an option, too. Some sites give him an ETA of 2022. Reportedly the Angels are very high on both.

One of Adams or Marsh is expendable. That Marsh is closer to MLB might work against him here, as Upton has two years remaining...

It would be interesting to get him back, somehow, hopefully with LA paying part of his contract, despite us already paying them half of it.

If we are going to take on salary fro LA, and I'm assuming we get something more to offset the financial dump aspect of the trade, I'd want AJ Pollock- not Price.

Would you trade Beni to LA for Price, Pollock and $26M?

The Red Sox have interest in reuniting with corner infielder Travis Shaw and right-handed reliever Brandon Workman, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com and Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com report. Shaw was last with the Red Sox in 2016, after which they traded him to the Brewers. He was a member of the Blue Jays in 2020, and though Shaw was a solid hitter earlier in his career, he has been less productive of late. The 30-year-old slashed .239/.306/.411 in 180 plate appearances with the Blue Jays last season. As for Workman, he has spent most of his career with the Red Sox, but they dealt him to the Phillies prior to last year’s trade deadline. Workman was excellent at times in Boston bullpen in parts of 2013-19, but he could only muster a 5.95 ERA in 19 2/3 innings between the two clubs a year ago.

I wouldn't take Price back for any two talksox posters, not even for siblings or relatives still learning to type (wait, they'd probably have more value on the trade simulator as prospective writers).

Maybe I'd discuss taking Price back if LA threw in Betts and paid half of Mookie's remaining contract.

I was assuming LA would pay enough of his contract that would make it worth it, and us not giving them anything we'd miss.

I'm not for getting him back. I was thrilled we dumped him and only had to pay half.

I seldom like your suggested trades and would rather wait for Bloom to make moves. I don't want to lose Vaz and he doesn't want to go. I also want to keep our top outfield prospect. If we could get value for Beni or Chavis then that is worth considering. Value can come in $ savings, prospects or a filling of needs such as relief pitching or CF.

Maybe LA can trade him and pay part of his existing contract to clear some financial space. I don't want him back but maybe someone would risk it at $10 million a year. Or they could throw in a prospect and take part of his contract. We are still stuck for $16 mil for 2.

Well, my trade of Duran was in exchange for an OF prospect with more than 3 times Duran's value.

On Vaz, he has 2 years of team control, and I think he is over-rated. I seem to be nearly all alone with that opinion.

I just want to say I feel badly for all of these people who still don't have a job lined up for 2021 and it's already Jan 31st. I would imagine only a few will get hired in the coming weeks.

Posted
Talk of the angels interested in Vazquez. Any merit to this.

The Angels are reportedly interested, but the Sox asking price (whatever it actually is) is apparently a deal breaker...

And who catches for us if they trade Vaz - Plawecki and Wong?

February is here, so it's hard to believe that that many free agents are home sitting on offers, waiting for bidding to increase. Then again, with so many major leaguers still available, the Red Sox could easily add another starter, reliever, second sacker and/or centerfielder.

The costs would appear minimal vs. the depth still needed for max improvement... because, although the roster is better, we all know -- barring many, many what-ifs -- it's probably not good enough yet for us to watch a winner, much less a contender.

They’d likely sign some short term stopgap free agent like Tyler Flowers, Robinson Chirinos or Tony Wolters, likely with the goal of seeing who signs for less than Vazquez’ $4.5 mill AAV. Flowers does have some comparable defensive metrics, but is also 35.

There’s no crying for Trevor Bauer!

I am expecting - yes, expecting - 3 more actual additions. I’m not sure who, but their names probably rhyme with Workman, Moreland and Reddick.

Nothing major that’s going to put the Sox back into contention, like Trevor Bauer might. But just enough to fill a few minor gaps while not exceeding the limit.

And these moves plus the two previous signings of Richards and Hernandez would mean saying goodbye to Springs, Payamps, Wilson, Walden and Mazza. Although some might return on MiLB contracts...

Maybe he doesn't want to live in New York.

So he can move to Connecticut and fly himself in everyday on one of his drones.

He’s probably going to be a Dodger, but I think they want to find a taker for Price first...

I'd guess almost every player on this list will be signed. (I didn't list every FA at these positions.)

Any trade would have to include Stassi coming back or a 3rd team that gives us a catcher.

Stassi might get better results from our staff than Vaz does, but the offense would likely take a hit.

It's what else we get back that might make it worth doing, and if the player(s) we get back have more than 2 years of team control, the extended future outlook would be enhanced.

Schoop and Colome don't rhyme!
