They probably do. But sports probably need to have different rules because of their unique characteristics.

It's up the Players Union to defend the rights of their members.

Mookie Betts 2021 BA 250, OPS 791 , Salary $27 Mil

Alex Verdugo 2021 BA 306, OPS 861, Salary $649,500

These are the facts.

These are also facts:

Since trade:

.887 Betts (355 PAs) 1 ring

.840 Verdugo (332 PAs) 0 rings

(I'm not saying I think the trade was bad. I like the trade.)

Franchy Cordero - 2021 salary $800,000

There is no question that Cordero is a better "deal" than Mookie.

So is a 2003 Civic at $100 over a brand-new BMW at $500,000.

Which would you rather drive?

Nothing like extreme comparisons LOL

Verdugo is the proper comparison to Mookie. And he's certainly not a 2003 Civic.

And that's a good accountant's take.

Hell yeah, if the 2003 Civic runs, I'll drive it and spend the other $499,900 on wine, women and song LOL

Sounds like 3 migraines to me.

Tangent: folks like us spend a lot of time at work talking baseball, waiting for the next game. Imagine the workaholics who go to games at stadium suites just to talk about jobs... (I can't).

I believe the depths of irony and wit in this post far surpass my abilities to understand them.

It's not a very rigorous analogy you have going here. :)

It’s not like anyone said Renfroe and/or Cordero are better than Betts. But I do find it interesting that both combine to make less than Jacoby Ellsbury is still making with the Yankees, especially considering Ellsbury hasn’t played a game in nearly 4 years...

Yes, the Ellsbury contract was not much better than our Pablo/Hanley/Rusney deals.

Although the Yankees recouped some money through insurance.

But then again, I'm not the one responding to it!

I hate to see current or former RS players crash. That's why I always root(ed) for Betts, Boggs, Clemens, Beltre, JBJ, Benintendi ... now the list is too long to do more than allude to. But Ellsbury's career was especially painful to watch. One of my alltime favorite players when he was here.

I prefer it.

Anyone else surprised that after more than 25% of the season, Mookie is hitting .259 with 5 hrs & 16 RBI? Gotta be the back still bothering him.

OPS .824

OPS+ 131

bWAR 1.5

He's a little below expectations, but not severely so.

Tough to lug $30M+ around without hurting your back.

The whole league is down, which the OPS+ factors in.

You'd think he could afford a nuclear powered cart to help carry it around.

True. This year on a Dodgers’ schedule, an OPS of .824 translates to an OPS+ of 131. Two years ago, Justin Turner posted an OPS+ of 131 with an OPS of .881...
