It's worst bottom of the roster I've seen since pre-Duquette.

There's over 25 players on our 40 man roster I couldn't care less about.

Listed by 40 man roster seniority:

Pedey

Lin

Walden (said all along we should tarde him while his stock was high)

Brasier

Brewer

Weber

Chatham

Hart

Wilson

Aybar

Arauz

Peraza

Mazza

Plawecki

Brice

Springs

Hall

Covey

Godely

Stock

Triggs

Pivetta

Leyer

Kickman

Grullon

4-7 Marginals:

JBJ (due to being a FA after 2020)

Barnes (FA after 2021)

Eovaldi (Contract and injury drags)

Chavis (was never high on him)

Taylor, Munoz, Valdez, Dalbec (time will tell)

The only 10 I really care about are, and some may bolt after 2021:

Devers

Verdugo

Bogey

ERod

Perez

JD

D Hernandez

Sale

Beni

Valdez? Dalbec?

Depends on what you consider overspending. I think it's possible that Jackie is re-signed, but not for anything close to his current $11 million salary.

Of course and would you give him an extended contract?

I would give him about half of that for one or two years.

I am a JBJ fan.

There seems to be a lot of people as fans and in BB who talk about young players not being ready to be brought up to play. Sort of a reverse age discrimination. i remember when Mickey Mantle was brought up early as was our own Rick Porcello by the tigers. Here is one list that includes young players who started on opening day. Lets hope if we get a great talent that he doesn't languish in the minors until he is 24 or 25.

There have been 20 teenagers to start on Opening Day in the Modern Era (since 1900), according to the Elias Sports Bureau. All of them have been position players -- the youngest pitcher on record to start on Opening Day was Catfish Hunter at 20 years, 4 days old in

Not saying it applies to any player (and teams deny doing it), but some players are held down for service time reasons...

I will point out it is a bit condescending to simply call it any sort of discrimination. Your list has only 20 names and spans 111 years. This alone shows how incredibly rare it is, that the number of teenagers to make MLB opening day rosters is slightly greater the number of men who walked on the moon.

Myself, I think no player should ever be promoted until they have a full season of AA ball. But teams all have their own, probably more complicated criteria...

5M AAV is fine for him. If he wanted 3/15, I'd sign him.

Sounds about right. I'd shoot for $9M/2 with a team option for $5M and a $1M buyout.

That's basically Kevin Pillar money. I'd agree to that deal as being fair for both sides.

Now how does Boras price his client?

He'll certainly ask for more, but I doubt anyone gives much more than $15M/3 or $11M/2.

Kevin Kiermaier is owed $36.5 mill over the next 3 years. Expect that to be Boras' jumping off point in negotiations...

My guess would be similar to Pillar. His agent should be looking to Kiermaier. THe end result will probably be somewhere in between, with possible pandemic/financial loss influences...

I'm not sure how much the pandemic will factor in. I agree that it should be similar to Pillar.

I was only rating the bottom of our 40 man roster.

Casas is not on the 40 man roster.

Yes I know. He is at the alternate site though and has probably earned a start in AA ball next season which puts him in position to move forward if he keeps hitting.

Soxprospects.com also guess he will be in AA next year, but I wouldn't be too surprised if he started the year in high A ball and worked his way up. He barely touched that level last year and who knows if they will have somethings he needs to work on progressively.

Of course, if he does hit in AA ball, AAA is really not much of a developmental step any more, so that puts him on the doorstep...

Casas... I just have a feeling this guy develops into a hitter and not just an all-or-nothing modern hacker (they probably said that about Lars Anderson, too, but he wasn't a monster that hit moon shots while still growing in the minors; then again, we didn't have cell phone video of every batting practice/sim game back then).

But I could see Casas making the majors the second half of 2022, either given a shot to at least platoon for a bad club, or to help a contender off the bench. I mean, Devers moved fast at age 20 and was contributing in an MLB pennant race, then was ripping game-winning hits in the postseason at 21.

If Casas rakes in AA next year, you could see him in BOS down the stretch run.

I'd prefer to keep it at 1 or 2 years, but I'd be okay with 3.

I'm sure Jacko has a post ready to go, but:

@Rotoworld_BB

Benintendi to 45-day IL, shut down for season

There's no reason to rush him back.

I would shut Eovaldi down too.

They mentioned that he could pitch in the next week. Why?

To work on his game, maybe? He's pitched so little the last two seasons.

If $5 million for each of 2 years was good for Beni, then JBJr could draw that much too. However, for him to take a short term , 50% 2020 AAV deal, his pride may get in the way. It may come down to how much does he want to play in Boston, or perhaps a specific elsewhere. For example, could he go to NYY to replace the aging Gardner, and get a richer deal than he may have earned in Boston ?

He is 30 and still is an excellent defensive player. He is durable, can run and by all I hear he is good in the clubhouse. This year he seems to be making more consistent contact, something that has eluded him in the past. He plans to go to free agency so we have to decide what to offer to keep him. I have heard $5 million for 2 years here with one suggesting 3 years would be acceptable. I assume some club with offer him more and for 3 years. Beni got $6.6 mil for 2. Our option right now is Duran who is unproven. Maybe they should move before the end of September with whatever offer they deem appropriate.

That could be.

I guess there is the whole integrity thing that I posted about before. For the sake of the game, the Sox need to try to field the best team and continue to play hard every game.
