Although that wasn't on Patriots Day, it was on this date in 2013. Fun fact.

My aunt from OH is an Guardians fan, and use to have season tickets at the Jake. She usually comes home to CT twice a year (at least) to visit my aging grandmother, and she would have come this weekend, with the Guardians at Fenway for the holiday weekend. Despite the still relatively cold weather, that would have been fun. I was at the game the day before the Marathon bombings. Patriots Day Weekend is a special time to be in Boston. Obviously, nobody could have known what would happen on Marathon Monday that year

It's too bad your aunt couldn't visit this weekend, but we will get back to those good times. The 2013 team was really good for the city of Boston.

On a side note, I am not happy with the new corporate names of so many baseball stadiums.

I don't think social distancing is the problem with resuming baseball. Spitting is the problem. And then there are players who like David Wells specialized in the nose rocket. I always felt that was a health menace.

Maybe the coronavirus will help to curb some of those gross habits.

MLB Network is doing a tribute to Patriot's Day today, including the first game at Fenway after the Marathon Bombings, which was the epic David Ortiz' "this is our f***ing city" game. It's airing at 11:00 am and again at 11:00 pm.

Also, re-sign Clay Buchholz!

I believe a season could begin sometime in the June/July time frame, but the admission of fans to parks will be problematical. Even if the outbreak dies down, one asymptomatic person can infect hundreds in a crowded setting. Hot spots like NY City and Boston will take a while to die down. We may see some fans allowed in later in the summer but I can see full parks. If that is the scenario, MLB has to decide if it wants to attempt to have a season at all.

IMO, it will be later in the season, not June or July when fans are allowed, IF they are allowed at all during the season. They will likely start the season with no fans, then possibly gradually open some parks up to a limited number of fans.

You are speaking nonsense.

I knew you would say that lol

I was depressed for about 2 months before the world shut down, but I've thoroughly enjoyed being quarantined, or at least have found stuff to do, and found things to be grateful for. But, for some reason, I have absolutely no interest in sports right now. I'm in no hurry for them to come back. I don't plan on watching as much sports when they do come back. More importantly, I want them to come back the right way. I'm not drawn toward playing in front of no fans. I'm willing to wait longer if it means ensuring everybody's safety, and coming back stronger than ever. Other than the money, I don't see a reason for rushing to get this season in

Under no circumstances should any sports return if it can't be done relatively safely. That said, I miss baseball. I realize that there are far more important things in life, but there's nothing wrong with missing baseball or other sports.

Despite what some people might say or think, I do think that having sports return would be a morale booster to many people.

I completely agree with that. I just have to get to the bottom of this funk that I'm in. All of a sudden I don't like sports???? What's the matter with me

Nothing is wrong with you. Priorities and interests change with the circumstances.

It's easy to explain. Right now, there are no sports, so there is nothing to like about them.

I heard an interview with Keith Hernandez today. He said that MLB is considering playing half a season throughout October with the post season played at neutral warm whether sites or domes. He also said that the pitchers will need about 3 weeks of spring training.

it would take a lot to just play baseball . The minor league teams will also need to get going to fill up the major team. They're the least protected and care for.

The real balance will be between people earning a living and the health of our population. Both are important or even critical. Leadership is trying to address both and of course are drawing criticsm, some realistic and some more political in nature. We do best in society when we cooperate for the benefit of all. Baseball is a business. Its return is in no way more important than opening other businesses throughout the country. Of course as sports fans we miss it a lot but its only part of the whole economy.

If the DHS's scientists are correct and heat humidity and sunlight are an effective deterrent to this virus then we may see day baseball with fans in July and August in select cities.

Solid post Oldtimer. I agree 100%. I am glad that I am not the one making the decisions for any of our states or for our country right now.

We can hope that this will be the case. According to current projections, we should be pretty much past the virus by July 1. I am still thinking that July may be a little early to allow fans to the games, but it might be possible.

This is the first time in my life I'm praying for that dreaded CT humidity to come as early as possible

Back in the NC mountains after a 685 mi drive from my florida home. Gas price of 1.49. 46 and windy here, some difference. a lot of people are lookng for a shorter baseball season, but this is a heck of a way of making that happen. Looking forward to the start of play, maybe in june or July.

Then why was there an outbreak in Miami?

Then why was there an outbreak in Miami?

There is increasing scientific evidence that suggests that being outdoors present far less risk to viral spread. The fact is having spent more than ten years living in the tropics, I can attest that we spend an inordinate amount of time indoors in air conditioning when being outdoors is generally far healthier.

Sounds reasonable. More opportunity for the air to re-circulate. The thing is Miami is that the population density is too high. You have to practice social distancing for being outside to really work

When outside, social distancing should be less important. Inside, the spread of any viral discharge is limited to the volume of whatever room you're in. Outside, no such limitations exist. And other elements like wind can come into play and be a bigger factor than being 6 feet away...

The studies suggest that heat and humidity when at a certain level impede the droplets which contain the virus from traveling. The virus travels farther in dry air than hot humid air.

Well that helps the case for residents of Phoenix and Las Vegas, who will want to stay inside when temperatures are soon in the 110s

OK.

But the volume thing and the wind thing are still true...

If you're in Phoenix, you should probably never leave he house anyway. First, as you said, it's insanely hot out there. And second, since every building in Arizona looks exactly the same, it becomes very difficult to find your own house once you've left it...
