Well yeah. (Except for that being-a-professional-athlete-and-making-millions-of-dollars-a-year thing.)

Four Marlins learned they tested positive for COVID-19 in a span of three days.

Two infectious disease experts say the positive results fit the definition of “a clear outbreak” with the club.

So why did the Marlins play baseball on Sunday?

Anyone think they'll get to August 31 at this rate?

I do not look forward to another 9 months on here without real baseball to talk about.

@craigcalcaterra

I mean, two weeks in they started changing the standards as it was, calling their protocols "a living document." Given that there is no clear standard stated for a shutdown, they will never, unless absolutely forced, admit that one is warranted.

I don't see the government stepping in to shut down the season. It's more likely the players walk out if ERod situations start appearing elsewhere.

Source: Marlins’ game tonight against Orioles in Miami has been cancelled. Team still in Philadelphia.

Buh-buh-buh-buh-bah... Not loving it...

They’re doing this all wrong.

Playing games in the home parks forces people to travel.

You split the teams the way you’ve designated. You commandeer baseball complexes and play games there, creating a true bubble.

You don’t go to home stadiums and travel three times a week at times. It was stupid from the beginning. The NBA, again, did things correctly

@CraigMish

Before this hits the fan today, I’d like to share that inside that clubhouse, and in that organization, to a man (and woman) they all felt safe. I have polled. Someone would leak to me if they weren’t following the strict protocols, and I would say it here.

There's no way this sprint is breaking the September tape. From a selfish stance, the Sox won't hit the reset and we'll all have to watch batting practice pitchers for another season. The morbid consolation is that not even '21 is guaranteed of happening at this point...

Waiting to hear if the 2020 MLB season has been cancelled. Nothing definitive yet. “In jeopardy” seems to be the most texted term to me in the last 30 minutes.

I think that the players wanted to play, and I think that MLB didn’t want to set off any alarms with just 4 players.”

on why Marlins players who had tested positive still played against the Phillies yesterday...

Management: "Uh, so we have 4 positive cases right now. Do you guys feel like playing today or no?"

Players: "Yeah, let's go."

@ADSohn

Things MLB spent a lot of time on: figuring out how to use a pandemic to f*** over the players

Things MLB spent no time at all on: figuring out how to actually play baseball in a pandemic

Turns out this may have not been a good approach!

Didn't they create the 30 man taxi squad for this situation? 10 players can't play, bring up 10 scrubs. There probably won't be much of a drop-off for the Marlins anyway.

I think the concern is that this is the opening day weekend and Marlins are already out 12 guys. The chance this spreads to other teams is fairly likely. I don't think the additional player pool was meant to completely replenish the MLB team during an outbreak. It was just meant to function as a larger 40 man squad since the MiLB season was to be cancelled.

If Manfred knew that 12 Marlins would get COVID less than a week into the season, he would have either cancelled the season or would have tried the bubble strategy.

Also, the Yankees are set to use the same facilities that the Marlins just used. Would a similar outbreak of Yankees players make you less than thrilled about continuing the season?

What if Judge had the symptoms ERod is showing?

@JonHeyman

Phillies visiting clubhouse is being fumigated “50 different ways” with Marlins there all weekend as a Yankees prepare to go in there. Phils-Yanks hasn’t been canceled yet but it’s a possibility.

The Yankees’ game tonight in Philadelphia, where the Marlins just wrapped up a three-game series, is under consideration for a postponement or cancellation, as well.

It probably would, yes. But the MLBPA could have chosen not to play this season, or refused to play without higher safety standards being set. Ultimately they wanted to play despite the risks and even though everyone knew there was a real possibility of this exact scenario taking place. Now it has happened and whatever the plan was for this situation should be put into effect.

I'm sure we've all seen it: high-fives, even high-five lines after a victory (well, the RS don't need to worry about that much), spitting (wasn't supposed to be allowed), very few masks, guys hanging out together in the dugout ... No surprise that half the team got infected. Unless serious mandates on player behavior are put into place and enforced, there is no way this season gets completed. Bellhorn4, where are you? How about double-or-nothing on whether the league lasts the next week?
