It might be OK, but just don't see it that way. Already went to Andrews, and he said see if you can get the elbow stronger without the Surgery. Looks like it didn't work, since they sent this MRI back to him. And shut him down.

He's had a bad shoulder too, wonder if his elbow is effecting that too.

In 2018 he was basically shut down for 2nd half. So this has been longer then a 15 Pitch Session. History, says he has a problem.

Sounds like surgery, or he'll just keep shutting down, as he feels pain.

Sox Gambled and lost.

I was suspicious when Sale jumped at the Sox' offer a year ago. Remember, he was underpaid as an annual Cy contender in Chicago. If Sale had opted not to re-sign before '19 and produced a full season like his first half of '18, he would've made twice as much in the free agent market. But unlike Mookie, he chose not to bet on himself. Maybe he was happy enough with 150 mil instead of 300 (it's possible, since all of us poor folk always wonder how many millions are enough millions)... or he knew something.

@jcmccaffrey

The Red Sox have gotten the opinion of the MRI from Dr. Andrews but will be seeking opinion from another arm specialist Dr. ElAttrache. Should have that within the next day or so

What does Dr Andrews know anyway???

Roenicke: Don’t read into this that it’s a worst case scenario for Sale, we just want to make sure we get this right.

if he's going for a 3rd opinion my guess is andrews showed him a scalpel....

@TomCaron

Remember: in August and again this winter it was Dr. Andrews who advised Sale NOT to undergo surgery. Last month Sale said the doctor told him “You’ll be all right. Throw some PRP in that thing.” They followed that course of action, but now Sale still feels soreness.

Is Caron inferring that's not the case?

sounds like Sale might grab some scissors and cut up Dr. Andrews dress shirt....

I am wondering if the sox doctors are recommending surgery and Andrews isn't. There is a bit of a bias there for Andrews since he recommended the course of action and has now wasted 7 months of recovery time if he changes his recommendation

Or control freak Chris Sale is hesitant to go under the knife?

That's how he actually hurt himself in the first place.

Here's an interesting take from Merloni:

My guess on Sale.....he was told by Andrews that nothing has changed and he’s not willing to except that because he feels pain and wants another opinion. If Andrews says TJ, you don’t need another opinion.

Before you people jump down my throat. *accept

When an athlete gets hurt, the biggest thing is to find out what’s wrong so you know how to make it better. Nothing worse than feeling pain and someone telling you everything is fine. You can’t accept that because you know it’s not.

Roenicke today said that instead of covering a couple weeks without Sale, they may now need to cover a month or so. If the MRI said TJ, he wouldn’t be talking about covering a month. He’d be talking about covering and entire year

Reason to be optimistic?

No way anything the team or Sale says can be taken as encouraging. How could there even be a discussion of resting the elbow for even part of a month. He just had rest since last August. The team from ownership on down does not want to finalize this one yet because Sale may be objecting to surgery or they never are honest on injuries, or they are just prolonging the misery a la Manfred and his report to the UN on baseball cheating.

You could very well be right.

I am just trying to hold on to some optimism about this season. :(

Rosenthal is reporting no Tommy John for Sale

Damn it all!

Kidding, but man, it feels like we are being deliberately tortured by the baseball gods this offseason.

This season is the IRL version “Frankie Teardrop” by Suicide.

More like management is hesitant. They still want New England families to blow a thousand dollars each for one game worth of tickets, concessions, souvenirs and parking... and watch NESN all summer and switch to Chevy.

So for now, Sale's elbow is on the IL recovering from ammonia -- which was used to clean out loose boogies, wipe off virus germs and wipe-out sliders.

This goes from fishy in 2019 to downright comical in 2020. Persistent pain is a reason for arthroscopy. Sometimes the ligament looks inflamed on MR but when you get in there it’s torn

Does it ever look inflamed on MR but when you get in there, it looks okay or better than expected?

(I'm not mocking you. I'm being serious.)

Absolutely. But persistent pain in these athletes warrants exploration
