Red Sox Sign RHP Caleb Simpson

By George Miller | July 4, 2020 at 3:12pm CDT

The Red Sox have signed right-handed reliever Caleb Simpson and added him to their 60-man player pool, according to Ian Browne of MLB.com. His addition comes not long after the Red Sox revealed that two relievers, Darwinzon Hernandez and Josh Taylor, have tested positive for COVID-19.

Simpson, 28, had spent his entire career in the Giants’ minor-league system before earning a chance with the Cubs as a non-roster invite during this year’s Spring Training.

As we've seen around the league, positives will happen. It's just going to depend on how well they can isolate, quarantine, and trace

I agree. I am not alarmed by the initial 1.2% positive rate. It's how the league and the players handle themselves from this point forward.

Maybe they need to do a study to find out if left handers are more susceptible to the virus .

???

Left, right, black, white, red, blue -- hey, aren't you at least glad the Red Sox don't have to change their names? (yet?)

The Washington DC football team was long over for a new nickname... and the Cleveland hardball contingent... but what about the Atlanta club (originally from Beantown)?

If we consider the Braves as a worthy adjective, we could also have teams named the Gallants, the Valiants, the Stalwarts, the Valorous... but maybe not the Stouthearted (folks would be campaigning for IPAs and lagers)...

Pablo is in mid-season form. I think this is a 10-15 belt season -- not Home Runs ... belts.

Not a single comment about this. I was laughing for the entire morning when I saw this.

Rafael Devers hasn't been on the field at Fenway Park since the weekend. He worked out at Boston College on Tuesday. What gives? #RedSox manager Ron Roenicke -- 'Sometimes I can tell you guys. Sometimes I can’t. But for right now that’s what we did.'

Speculation is that Devers has come to camp a little out of shape and the Sox are not pleased. He has been working with Febles to help get back on track.

I had no idea the Giants’ uniforms had a B cup...

Ah yes, he's a definite contender. I'd like to see a belly-off between those two...

With the winner taking on the winner of the other semi-final between Cecil Fielder and John Kruk...

I'm not sure anyone can match Pablo's belly in the protuberance department.

As you are clearly establishing criteria, you are my first choice to be a/the judge...

Sox intrasquad game set for 2PM tomorrow. Don’t be surprised if you see Jason Varitek calling some of the games behind home plate.

Oh, be still my heart.

He would still be my catcher if I were the GM/manager. :)
