It’s just absurd how little they care about anything other than being first. There has been multiple celebrity deaths where the family’s found out on social media from TMZ’s twitter account before being informed by law enforcement

The drug dealer and the drug buyer should share responsibility.

We've created this market for here-first information (and resulting misinformation).

I think I came to that realization when Princess Diana died while being chased by the paparazzi. Media and paparazzi are one in the same, just covering different stories.

It doesn't help that now the driver for sports news is how many clicks you can get rather than how good your piece is written.

“He’s one of the greatest players to ever wear our uniform,’’ new Red Sox GM Chaim Bloom softly said when cornered on a back practice field, “and that makes it really difficult to do something like this.

“We feel that. We know our fans feel that. We know it hurts. We know it’s going to hurt for awhile.’’

“Even though I didn’t get a chance to know him,’’ said Bloom, who was hired in November to replace David Dombrowski, “I know how it feels to be that connected to a player. To feel that connected to a great player, and how difficult it is to see that player leave the organization, I fully get all that. …

“We just felt at the end of the day our jobs are to do what’s best for the Red Sox, not just for today, but also down the road. We have that duty to our fans to make sure we’re taking care of the long view of the organization as well.

“So, as tough as it was, we felt this move accomplished that.’’

No doubt. I think it hasn't sunk in yet, for me.

I got bummed out last night when I was looking through some cards with my son. We were looking for some of my older Fisk cards (74, 77) because I was trying to explain to him the importance of the catcher position since he'll play a little bit there this season. Anyway, so as I was going through the cards, we kept seeing all the Mookie cards and it kinda bummed us out.

@ChrisCotillo

Betts says he spent week during delayed trade trying to get a place to live. Called the week "fun at times and stressful at times."

Price says his focus was on his kids. Says trade talks didn't affect daily routine. "Once we found out we were coming, we were both excited."

@ChrisCotillo

Both asked about memories of Boston.

Betts: "Boston was a great chapter in my life."

Price: "We won a lot of games. We won three division titles and won a World Series in 2018. For myself, 2018 was very special there at the end. Those are very, very good memories for sure."

Also, side note:

@redsoxstats

Mets offered Brandon Nimmo or J.D. Davis and one Andres Gimenez or Ronny Mauricio for Betts. They wouldn't include Jeff McNeil.

Verdugo, Downs, Wong better.

Mookie: "I’d like to celebrate here in this jersey for sure."

Mookie: "We’re coming here to play the game like we always do."

Price added that joining a team like the Dodgers is great.

Good luck to Mr. Bloom. he could not be farther away from the Rays franchise than he is now in Fenway park.

And most last place finishes as well. It's been quite the crazy roller coaster with this ownership. I think that's why everyone that still follows the Sox like we do get emotional about it.

Since Henry took over the team, there hasn't been a single season where he hasn't put a contender on the field. There are some seasons when things didn't work out, but that has nothing to do with Henry's checkbook.

As fans, we really can't ask for more. Well, we can, but then we start sounding like the entitled Yankees fans that we used to hate.

Why does Henry let guys like Larry (2011) and DD walk all over him?

Henry should have never hired Dombrowski.

If he didn't, I'd bet that we would still have a WS Championship and there'd be a better chance that we'd have Mookie.

Larry and DD did good things. Then they messed up. Now they're gone.

IMO, Dombrowski messed up big time. Then, he did some good things.

Here's what I think:

If we kept Mookie this year, and got off to a crappy start, there would be a lot of people asking why the hell we didn't get something for him when we had the chance.

You know it.

If they feel that dumping Mookie was the best course of action, they need to make that move regardless of fan backlash. That's why the nonsense about "Sox trying to back out" was fairly disheartening.

The nonsense about the Sox trying to back out was just that. Nonsense concocted up by fans and the media.

Price was able to 'opt out' of his contract without actually opting out.

I think he'll be much happier in LA.

One could also argue the reverse. Not extending Eovaldi, Sale and Bogaerts (although that extension is awesome. He’s only included because I don’t want to pick and choose.) then the Sox would easily have kept Mookie and my had to worry about Price either. And they’d be just as many pitchers short as they are now. (Since Eovaldi is such a question mark anyway.)

Exactly! Preposterous theory.

Like Sox brass did not know the serious backlash from trading Betts was coming.

Bloom did a magical job maximizing the return. He did better with the redo.

I know trading Price leaves a hole, but he was entering his last 3 years, aging quickly and had not been all that reliable for the last 3 years. I know people disagree with my monetary value placed on Price (thinking he's worth maybe $10-12M a year x 3 on the open market), but even if you think he will be worth $16M x 3 for 3 years, we broke even while adding budget space. I think we more than broke even just on the Price part of the whole deal.

Getting Downs & Wong over Graterol seems like a stroke of genius.

The big risk is Verdugo, but I trust Bloom's ability to correctly evaluate opposing team talent. He's a whiz at it.

I wish I could recite all the winning deals he made with TB, but I'm sure it would be eye opening.

Let's give Bloom some time and not expect instant success and 100% pluses on his deals. This first big one is a doozy, and he will likely live or die by the results of just this one deal, but I hope not. We gave up too quickly on Ben. I hope we learned from that.

Let's be clear: they would have 'easily kept Mookie' for this season only. Is that a big deal?

Nothing will be easy about keeping Mookie after this season.

The "big deal" was about no reset and still having Price's contract on the books as we seek to extend Betts or replace him, so yes, all about "after this season".

Kimmi, it makes me shudder a little to hear you, who has so steadfastly maintained that the playoffs are a crapshoot, indulge in a hypothetical like that.

I would say that claiming the Sox wanted to "back out" of the basic premise of the deal with LA would be a stretch. However you have in your own post pointed to that prompted the change away from Gatorade. Verdugo already represents a pretty big risk. It should be obvious for example that of the two teams LA is not at all risk averse in their pursuit of a title now and the Sox are quite risk averse. The Sox simply balked at the combined risk represented by Verdugo and Gatorade.

I don't at all buy the idea that the Sox saw something in the medicals that scared them away from Gatorade. You cannot tell me that you can MRI a MLB pitcher's arm and shoulder expecting to find perfect specimens. The Sox simply balked at the combined risk of Verdugo and Gatorade and opted out of the Gatorade risk for a couple of prospects that they could stow away as relatively safe bets in comparison.

Who said they expected a perfect MRI, or that the MRI was the only evidence that surprised the Sox docs?

He looked like a bigger risk than the expected, and balked at the deal.

We appear to be in agreement. I am simply arguing that the Sox got spooked by something they should have known regarding gatorade from jump st.

How could they know? Why even have medical check-ups, if you should know everything beforehand?

They got burned with Pom, and maybe they got more thorough.
