The trade simulator would never have accepted this deal as a gross imbalance in the Sox favor.

Chaim is a genius. Someone tell the genius that he still needs a manager.

The trade simulator? Is it real? LOL!

Disappointed. We traded our best player in decades for a guy with no allstar upside while also needing to pay 1/2 of Price deal.

Well the good news is it will be a heck of a lot easier to get good seats. Bad news for Ace Ticket .

Considering that Mookie was not going to sign with the Red Sox and is going to be a FA after this season, Bloom did well to get what he did and move Price also.

Then keep Price. He’s worth a lot to the Sox if they want to be competitive.

Hint: they don’t want to be.

NO, dumping Price will make us way more competitive for beyond 2020.

The reset alone can save millions in taxes. Then, the $16M saved by dumping Price could get us someone like this:

2020 FAs signed for close to about $16M a year

Madison Bumgarner $17M x 5

Nick Casstellanos $16M x 4

Will Smith $13.3M x 3

Tanner Roark $12M x 2

Didi Gregorius $14M x 1

Rick Porcello $10M x 1 plus Jonathan Schoop $6.1M x 1

Betts is arguably the best MLB player along with Trout. I will miss him but we have to move on. 2020 will be a bridge year for us. I fully expect a loaded wallet and bold moves by Bloom in 2021.

According to Cot's, we're now at $201M (under $208) BEFORE salary relief from Price trade. Take away another $15M and now we're at $186M.

It's a great deal. We get possible future closer and an outfielder with 5 years of team control.

Is this deal still pending physicals. If Verdugo is damaged, that would make this look very bad.

Everyone in the trade -- including David Price -- needs to pass a physical.

Had we made this deal months ago, we could have signed a couple free agents and not been too bad, this year while still resetting.

Seems like Padres offer was better IMO.

Very happy for Henry’s bank account.

What is the over under on when Verdugo goes on the injured list? Data shows that once a player goes on the injured list the chances increase that he will go on the injured list again.

I am guessing that Verdugo will probably spend significant time injured even if he passes this physical.

This trade was a salary dump nothing more.

That would include David Price and Brusdar Graterol.

Who plays a larger percentage of games over the next 3 games? Verdugo vs Price.

What's the odds on this bet?

Great trade with Alex Brady Verdugo and a very young Dominant closer .Chaim is Brilliant .LA LA land and that stadium won’t be as kind to Mookie .I will be hoping Mookie falls on his face in LA both in power numbers and in the field ....tons of foul ground to both rob hits but also get robbed and it’s certainly not the Monstah he’s looking to punish their.Mookie May look more like Benny in LA than the other worldly player here .The Redsox can make a move at the break to add someone if we catch lightning again .Every player on Notice we traded Mookie Betts ..you are next if you don’t play ball.Maybe just maybe Mookie May come in at a discounted rate under 400 with a year in LA . Why would you be rooting for Mookie to fail? He already won 5 gold gloves in one of toughest right fields in league. He'll be fine in LA.

Looking ahead

2020

JBJ and his $11M comes off, unless he's traded before ST

Perez and his $6.5M comes off, unless Sox picks up team option for 2021 at $6.5M

JD will most definitely opt out unless he's hurt or he has horrendous year, $22M comes off if he opts and is not resigned.

Brandon Workman will be FA, $3.5M

Mitch Moreland, $2.5M unless Sox picks up his option for 2021

That's total of $45M coming off the books after 2020

Then after 2021

Dustin Pedroia $13.75M

E Rod will be a FA, say he's up to $12M for 2021

That's another $25M

We're in good shape to go after some impact FA.

One of our focus should be on extending Devers after 2020 if he has another outstanding year.

This is more absurd than your fake news thread.

Like Betts didn't "play ball." Betts is a true stud. It sucks to lose him, and wishing failure on him is just plain crazy. He didn't ask to be traded.

I wish him the very best and am glad he's in the NL, so we don't have to face him all that much.

I hope Bloom uses the money wisely. It's what he's known for. Let's hope the cliff is over soon. We have a nice core to work with.

I'm hoping we can keep Devers and ERod around. Bogey is locked up at a decent cost.

If Sale can return to form, we could be right there in 2021.

I look at David as a lot less talented version of Josh when we shipped him there and a lot less healthy .LA will likely be good for price for maybe a half season until he breaks down and gets shelled later in the year .We won this trade Verdugo is one hell of a young cost controlled talent .Both the players we received are exciting can’t wait now for season .Dont rush this kid back though let him get healthy and hold him back from wanting to jump back in early .I want Alex to sit out as long as it takes that may be until The end of May and this is absolutely fine with me and should be with the team .Protect this stud from himself and our Redsox will make a run book that .

Mookie is one of my all time favorite Red Sox players. I don't really care what the return is, I probably wont be content and can't believe this actually happened.

Great player, but too pricey—wants Trout money or more.

Wow. Verdugo and ... who? "We're SAVED!"-- (Vladimir)

May want to put the Redsox colored sunglasses down on the coffee table and open up those crusted over eyes a minute .Chaim freaking killed on this trade literally cut off someone’s head dropped it in the street killed .

I'm sure we're add some payroll but say we're at $140M after 2020 before arbitration raises,

SP Sale

SP Eovaldi

SP E Rod

SP Perez (add $6.5M for picking up his option)

SP Graterol (pick up from Twins)

C Vaz

1B Dalbec/Moreland (add $2.5M for picking up his option)

2B Chavis

3B Devers

SS Xander

LF Beni

CF

RF Verdugo

DH

Bullpen, go with Kimmi's theroy of bunch of nobodies...

We have plenty of cash to shore up this bunch....this was the adult thing to do, keeping Betts and giving him $400M is what your teenage kids would have done. Financial restraint.

There is no way of knowing who won this trade at this moment and everything on your part is speculation. Red Sox aren't making a "run" with this rotation

Devers should be up next and if the kid plays hardball just what can you get back for Devers ? No need to ponder now but it’s in Chaim’s quiver.
