Eovaldi, JBJ and Northcut for Herrera, Robertson and Marchan

Yes, because in the wake of all this negative PR, the Sox should be trying to take advantage of the low asking price of the domestic abuser. Addison Russell for 2B while we're at it?

I wasn't aware of abuse charges.

Herrera, Russell? Are we going to incorporate wife-beater shirts into the uniform options.

A good punchline, although Russell was only suggested as part of a similar joke.

Herrera was a name tossed about back when resetting seemed more important because he had a favorable contract with enough money left to be considered a burden but a low enough AAV that there was a benefit...

Is it too early to say "better luck next year"?

In all seriousness, even though the Sox don't have a good chance of winning the division next year, I'm looking forward to the 2020 season. I can't wait to see Bogaerts & Devers continue to bash, E-Rod and Workman dominate, and maybe just maybe Nathan Eovaldi prove everybody wrong.

If the pitching comes around, they'll have a shot.

Dan Shaughnessy wrote a great article, about Henry. And why big problem on why there wasn't a lot of movement this Off-Season. On Sept 27, this past year the Sox and Henry said will try to cut Payroll to get under the Luxury Tax.

That did all the damage. From that point on every team in MLB knew our plans.

He has since reneged on what he said. "Many think we brought Bloom in to cut Pay-roll, but that is not the Case".

It was too late.

Teams were not going to give the value back for guys like Price, and whoever they wanted to move.

They backed themselves in a corner with some questionable contracts, then they tell everybody that they need to move out from that corner.

This Off-season has been nothing but stupidity from this Organization. Might as well go for it with what you got now.

Shaughnessy cited talking to many Top Baseball Executives when he wrote that article.

They knew the Sox plans.

Cant Post it wont come up. Sorry.

I have thought the same thing for some time. DD really pissed Henry and Werner off and they haven't thought clearly since. Now they are literally stuck between one enormous rock and a very hard place.

Not everybody -- Eovaldi for Cy Young (and when he wins it, he'll finally have all the vowels).

This is a big oversimplification though.

Just because other teams knew the Sox were cutting payroll doesn't mean they're not going to make fair offers if they're really interested in the player.

If they don't get the player they're interested in, what good does that do them?

Plus the Red Sox are hardly the first time in the situation of trying to cut payroll or unload guys whose contracts are expiring. Teams do it every year.

Look at the Dodgers trade in 2012. The Dodgers kind of knew we badly wanted to unload those contracts, but it worked out for us somehow...

The problem with Eovaldi has never been the talent, if he's healthy for a full season he has the tools to be a top 5 in the Cy young voting. The problem again is health; in my opinion he should be converted to the BP full time, he might become the best RP in the league. He has a closer salary, he might be one of the best (if not the best) in that role.

Try it now. No way, different time Pal.

Wrong.

Teams might know you're underselling, say, Betts, and make a non-competitive offer. But that just makes it easier for another team to come in with a better offer. And if that one is still low, someone else (or the oginial team) comes back with an even better one. As long as there are mutliple interestd bidders, it will work out.

With some of the mega contracts like Price, it does get tougher, but it still can be done. The Mariners did pretty well unloading Robinson Cano. It's not like they were fighting to keep that contract. And they did so with very likely just one team that was interested...

Well maybe. Except this implies that other teams care and think as much about the RS as people in Boston. they don't. They could give a rat's ass whether RS want to get under the cap. All they care about are their own interests.

Tony Massarotti, Seam McAdam, and John Tomase all agreed on Shaughnessy's article. It was not smart by Henry, it hurt Bloom.

All guys who get paid to criticize the team.

If you know your opponents intent, you can extract as much talent as you can to allow them to reach that intent

wait...what? we can get paid!?!?

What? Surely you aren't implying that you've been doing this for free??? I make $7000/month commenting on sports boards. I'm happy to enroll you in my seminar and share my secrets on how this is done.

Fascinating franchise.

Four World Series titles this century, three last-place finishes in the past decade, baseball's highest payroll the last two seasons, luxury-tax concerns hinder team's ability to keep big-ticket players, president of baseball operations fired before end of 2019 season, Red Sox part company with manager under pressure in January.
