I would not guarantee Buchholz a MLB deal. But a MiLB deal would be nice. He’ll do better in 15-20 Eovaldi starts than anyone in Pawtucket. All he needs to do is hold a chair for Bryan Mata...

Clay is def made out of glass. but when that glass is intact he can go on a run.....

if anyone is advocating counting on him for 30 starts this upcoming season well...that would be dreaming.

thinking he can answer the call for 10-15 starts is a reasonable expectation and at the low $$ cost involved it should be pursued by Bloom.

While Henry's snark to Shaughnessy was funny, perhaps he ought to go back and reread his own comments from September before trying to make all the luxury tax discussion out to be a creation of the media. I doubt anyone would be talking about the Red Sox resetting right now if he had not come out and publicly stated their "need" to do so...even the much-quoted walking-back by Kennedy described it as a "goal."

 

Personally, I've expressed my skepticism several times this offseason that the Red Sox will follow through with getting under the tax line (and in fact argued that right now would be the wrong time to do so), so I have zero issues with this latest news if true...I'm just not sure how much credence any statements from Henry on the subject deserve deserve to be given at this point.

 

(The line about "reminding" baseball ops that being competitive is the goal was strange, too, fwiw, though I'm unsure what, if anything, to read into it.)

I'm not so sure Buch has anything left in the tank. 12 starts last year, 6.56 ERA, 1.492 WHIP. He's 35 now. Without steroids, a lot of guys are done at 35.
