Great news about Sale!

Has there been a decision about how they will deal with the cyst in Price’s wrist?

The best remedy is to trade him.

Posted
This is what I've been thinking from the get-go. Trading him at the deadline might easily yield the same thing, or even better if luck cooperates.

The thing about trading him at the deadline is it flies in the face of the goal of getting under the limit, since it’s pretty much impossible to get under and keep Betts without some much less likely scenario, like dealing Price.

So we will see how serious this “goal but not a mandate” based on whether or not they deal Betts...

Trading JBJ this winter and Betts at the deadline gets us under.

By how much? Right now we’re basing this on arbitration estimates.

Plus who are you assuming plays CF and for how much? Same with 1b (or 2b) and fifth SP? And the last bullpen role or two...

Yes, I'm assuming we don't sign anyone to much more than min salary, and we lose JBJ's $10-11M estimate and about $9-10M of Betts's pro-rated contract (1/3 of $28-30M).

That would be enough to put us comfortably under.

Some here seems to be okay with getting close every year without ever winning over winning it all but not getting close in between.

I lived that for over 3 decades.

I like the rings, even if it means sucking a few years here and there, and besides, we should never really suck bad as long as we keep spending neat the Lux line.

You have described me here. I am not one who wants us to suck ever. Winning it all is never a given as a matter of fact I'm thinking that the odds are against it. Thinking that we have a chance every year, keeps me young.

Winning the title is obviously great. But being able to watch the Sox from April through September every year is a little more important to me than being able to enjoy the occasional October...

Plus you want action during the offseasons.

You just want it all, basically.

No, there are never any guarantees, but having a top 3 favorite 2-3 years out of 10 increases the odds of a ring.

I know Kimmi and others disagree, but I like our chances of winning a ring better being a top 3 contender 3 times every 10 years than a top 4-6 contender 4-5 times every 10 years.

I just look at it this way - which organization has done better than us since Henry bought the team?

We agree notin. is that even legal?

I have no complaints.

I enjoyed watching the Sox for over 3 decades without a ring, too. It was super frustrating, at times, but it was fun.

The playoff system was different back then, so it's hard to really compare.

We made the playoffs once in the 70's but missed by 1/2 game, a play-in loss and a 2.5 GB second place.

We made the playoffs twice in the 80's and finished 2.5 games out one year. That's 20 years of really being serious contenders for 7 seasons.

The 90's were maybe better: 4 playoffs, but no WS appearances. (I'll tell you, I liked the 70's and 80's better, despite less playoff runs.)

What's not to like about Henry's tenure?

17 seasons

10 playoff appearances

6 League Championship appearances

4 World Series appearances

4 World Series victories

Also,

5 seasons finishing 11 games or more behind & 7 seasons 7 or more GB.

I'm thinking the last 17 seasons have been like what I have described as being optimal. I'll take our current history over making the playoffs 17 times instead of 10, but with no rings. That's all I'm saying.

I'm fine with people who prefer 17 straight playoffs with no rings, and it's not all about the rings, to me, but being just good enough to make the playoffs (or coming very close) and nothing more gets frustrating for me.

Really now! I don't think the vast majority of millions of red sox fans who endured 86 years of frustration and agony would agree. I certainly don't!

67, 75+86 Sox made WS and took it to the 7th game. Those years were killers. Be happy we won. And won 4. Thought I never see the day. Before 67, many here would have committed Suicide, we were so bad.

Back then Trades, Signing others (Not FA's), and Farm did it. So actually today you have a tool, to get better fast.

Sandy Leon gone to the Guardians.

... for 21yo RHP Adenys Bautista, who has a 5.98 ERA after 2 seasons in rookie ball...

Posted
Even if that kid is a nobody (seems likely), it's kind of nice to get something, anything in return for Sandy... we should be able to find a good defensive backup for much cheaper.

Bring back Fedex?

Sale always did better with Leon, including 2019. That's just an indisputable fact.

He did pretty well in Chicago without him.

One of his former White Sox catchers was Alex Avila, who is available as a free agent this offseason...

You were bound to be right about something sooner or later... ;)

Throw enough ---- against the wall and see if something sticks!

but but but, Sandy is the only professional catcher that can handle our pitching staff....I guess we're punting 2020 now that future Hall of Famer, Sandy Leon is gone.
