As opposing pitching staffs get weaker, our incredible offense gets even stronger/ We can easliy tahe 30 of these remaing games. Our NEW and revised staff will feature EROD (5 innings every 4TH day) and a take your pick batc of 2-3 inning pitchers.

Maybe Price kpinns EROD for 4 day, 5 inning stints, but it will look something like that.

Tonight, Tuesday, against Philly may be the toughest game wee see for the next week or so.

A Red Sox trip to this year's postseason would be quite impressive.

The Boston Braves were in last place on the 4th of July 1914, and WON IT ALL! And that was back when they played only 154 games.. It is not impossible. One really good winning streak does it!

Yeah.. I just do not see it this year. Sorry. Its a shame because offensively this team is a lot of fun to watch.

Unless the Sox score in the double digits, they don't stand a great chance of winning. The fascinating thing about this team is how often they regularly DO reach double digits in runs.

I'm one of the most optimistic people on this site, and even I've given up on this team

Yes, and Kimmi and I are usually the last to give up.

She's still believing.

I gave up after the second sweep.

Note: One of the announcers erred in reporting the number of games remaining. There are 37, including this game tonight (Tues.) and the suspended game on Thursday.

Not really. They can all afford the lofty ticket prices...

I’m usually among the last to give up /as well.

This year, it’s a two person race to see who gives up last. Kimmi vs Slasher. And right now that race is more interesting than the Sox postseason hunt...

Not winning games like this should convert the rest to non believers.

Our incredible offense ran into good pitching. Note that Nola didn't throw over 94 mph but had a nice assortment of pitches and kept our hitters off balance all night. Only JBJ did much and that in itself was intereswting.

The end of July convinced me. The only hope then and now is that both Oakland and TB collapse.

Notice also that Nola is one of the few starters left, either league (NL has more of this endangered species than AL) that actually CHALLENGES hitters. If you don't swing at his pitch, as much movement as there is on it, its still then a called strike more often than not. Nola was at something like 59 pitches through 5 complete. You don't do that either nibbling or always trying to get every hitter to chase which is the staple of the Red Sox starting rotation.

The Red Sox have an 8-10 record so far in August despite the recent five-game winning streak.

The rally will need to start soon if the Sox hope to advance to the postseason.

sorry. not converted.

when facing a legitimate Ace and throwing what amounts to a bullpen game and losing a game 3-2 actually gives me more confidence that we will fight for a playin game spot....

It will end in a tie. Neither one of us will give up until the team is mathematically eliminated.

I am not only hopeful, I am actually quite optimistic that the team can still get it done. One game at a time.

On the other hand, they were 8.5 games out of a Wild Card spot only days ago and now it's 6.

Things change quickly in this game.

Weeks to losses, 6 weeks left, were 7 losses to the A's, just keep grinding. Were still in it. Just barely, but were ready to roll. Phillies played a good game, hats off. Forget it and start another.

Thanks Harmony and your Mariners, 1 more brother.

Yanks think they are playing the Orioles.

Your optimism is both grounded and astounding at the same time. Well done.

While I find it difficult to share, I do like reading it out here...

You do know, we may have 6-10 more "bullpen" games, this season.

Wild applause for bosoxmal!!! i'm not sure I agree, but am getting tired of all the moaning and groaning. What has impressed me recently is that the hitting has been mostly good and sometimes even good enough to overcome big deficits to win. Plus the bullpen is looking pretty good, ERod is having a career year, and Porcello, despite having a terrible year, is still capable of a good start now and then.

Last night was not a terrible loss. Nola pitched great, and JBJ still got that 2 run dinger in the 3d. Johnson stunk, but not completely because he went 3.1 giving up the 3 runs (all in the 1st). So good decision by Cora to leave him in and then later to pull him in the 4th. Then the bullpen was superb, but the lineup couldn't quite deliver, which I credit mostly to excellent pitching by the Phillies.

Right now, all the contending teams in the AL are losing together. So often, this happens during races. It's as if no team wants it when you wd think they wd want it the most. So, all's we got to do is buck this trend, and hopefully not start a new all-teams-win track.

Going 30-5 (a .857 winning percentage) between now and the end of the season to finish 97-65 would represent a comeback almost as great as the 2004 American League Championship Series comeback, especially because 16 of the first 20 games scheduled for September are against teams that currently are playing at .500 or above. Neither Oakland nor Tampa Bay has anything as close to such a difficult September schedule.

So, let’s hope that while the Red Sox are going 30-5, the Yankees finish 14-21, the Astros finish 15-20 and the Red Sox tie the Yankees for the best record in the American League on the final day of the regular season, necessitating a one-game playoff to determine the division champion, and Chris Owings hits a late-inning homer at Yankee Stadium to clinch the championship for the Red Sox, as Bucky Dent watches in tears.

Maybe it's time to replace Sweet Caroline with

Actually, I find this situation much more enjoyable. Now i can watch games just to see baseball--I don't have my enjoyment of that cluttered up with pissing and moaning over games-behind-leader,, playoff percentages, trade speculations, sudden DFAs, managerial second guessing. It's like watching the RedSox in the old days, when it never occurred to me they would make the WS or even make a run at it. Just baseball.
