The Sox have been rolling but have gained no ground on the A’s. The Rays are fading as expected without their two aces. The A’s and Guardians schedules are jokes from here on out. While I understand the premise of the initial post, everyone seems aware of the position you’re in

No one is unaware of the position we are in. Some people are just holding out until we are mathematically eliminated, but no one here is so dumb that they think we actually have a good chance to make the playoffs.

we got this.

i dont blame anyone that either recently or long ago quit on the season and the Red Sox.

but i sure as f*** wouldnt want to share a foxhole with you.....

Taking those longshot risks, the chances are slim of making it to the safe refuge of a foxhole.

Keep those Rally Caps on, in fact if you have 2, put one on top of the other.

We don't play tomorrow, hopefully the A's, and Rays lose.

Then this weekend is getting big.

Yanks play the A's

Rays play the Guardians. Just as soon hope the Guardians sweep them, one team is getting a WC anyway.

Lets Go Yanks.

This team is playing hard without Price, and Sale, and that shows me a lot.

If they can get back into this thing, without those two, you should be more proud, of the Sox.

This thread is about hope.

If your just going to be negative, with all due respect, I just wish you would hold your thoughts.

You'd have as much luck trying to herd cats.

I actually think the best thing is if you have optimists and pessimists (and even neutralists, which is what I am, I think) who can get along with each other and respect each other's views.

Which I believe we actually do have here.

Good for you, I shared my views, like you said that's what you do here, and you singled them out.

Me, I'm not into quoting people, I try to come up with my own thoughts, and read yours. Then try discuss it with mine.

Look, I understand that there are Posters that have been here longer then I have been, and I respect that. But, this is not some sort of Seniority status, where if something I write, is done the wrong way.

I looked at this thread and I saw positivity, if you disagree with it so be it.

I picked no particular Poster out, just stated something out what I felt.

That's that.

While I do lack their optimism, it's good to encourage the True Believers...

Now as a neutralist, I think the True Believer/Non-Believer dichotomy is a bit silly...

The pencil neck geeks on these sites only know about numbers , metrics and probabilities. They don't believe in or consider things like experience, heart , confidence and momentum. This Red Sox team has a history of winning. They are chasing two teams who are not as talented to begin with and who don't have the big game success that the Sox do . These web sites odds are meaningless and will surely change as the Sox continue to gain ground. I have said this all along , and I have seen nothing to change my mind .

But it happens every year. It's just more pronounced this year due to their being nothing else and the complete lack of activity of DD...

What do any of us know about heart and confidence and momentum that doesn't apply to Tampa and Oakland?

Before the Spx-Colrado game last night, I was bouncing around the "games of interest" already underway. One of the announcers (probably;y doing the Guardians game) remarked that he had heard that the Red Sox had a 3% chance to make the playoffs. After gaining a full game on both the Rays and Oakland I wonder what the % is now.

Baseball-Reference hasn't updated this yet.

I can actually hear them choking from my vantage point on the couch .

More pencil neck geeks . Means nothing.

Don't you typically site Vegas odds? Do you think those guys aren't math whizzes? Jeff Sagarin has Bachelor's in math from MIT. They don't get any nerdier than MIT...

David Price's next start means a LOT I think. We could use a reliable quality start starter.[/quote. Okay . Now you are starting to believe. Hop on board . There is still time to do so without being called a front runner.

As the old saying goes, "There's no substitute for having been there."

I guess the Vegas boys have slightly thicker necks...

But the 2018 Red Sox did not have much in the way of players with successful playoff resumes...

Nor did the 2017 Astros or 2016 Cubs, I don't think.

Hate to put a damper on that thought, but the A's won 97 games and made the playoffs a year ago, pulling away from Tampa to do so. They've been in this exact situation before.

The 64,000 dollar question is not the chances, but how well will we do in the 7 game Minny-NY series next week. 5-2 we're probably still in, 4-3 and we're probably out. I think we lose one game vs the Angels.

Gotta think too that if we hang in, the battle will be A's vs Sox for the final spot.

Are you guys really suggesting that playoff experience doesn't matter? WOW.

That's just another big can of old school vs. new school worms.

But a lot of guys with no playoff experience have done great in the playoffs, and the reverse is also true.

And last year we saw David Price go from Mr. Chock to Mr. Clutch.
