I do not understand why the rush to activate him!

Just looking at him swing the bat in spring training and you knew he was not right.

We need to move him to the 60 day dL and bring up chavis.

He is on the 10 day injured list and Walden has been called up but they do need a 2nd baseman. I don't think it will be Chavis.

They have only been waiting since 2017. That's not too much time waiting on him. Twice now he didn't last a week from his activated date. He is done.

Lin is being activated and Erasmo is being DFA’d

Why would they need to DFA Ramirez?

Lin is on the 40 man roster already and the injury to Pedroia creates an opening on the active roster. Not to mention, even with the addition of Ramirez and Leon, the Sox still have 2 open 40 man roster spots...

You have to pay dudes on the 40 even if he isn't on the active roster. Plus who cares, it's Ramirez.

He’s on a minor league deal. His MLB minimum wage can’t be that prohibitive, can it?

He has a better track record than a few pitchers the Sox are keeping and further depleted their depth. Not sure what Josh Taylor and Brian Johnson bring to the table that Erasmo Ramirez doesn’t....

Ramirez does not have options remaining so they can’t just send him down. He had to remain on the 25 man roster or be exposed to waivers. Plus, even if he had options, he has 5+ years service time so he can’t be sent down without his consent.

...even after he signed a minor league contract with the Sox?

But you don’t need to send anyone down to activate Lin. Moving Pedroia to the IL creates the necessary opportunity...

Although they are apparently bringing Walden back up. Not sure what Dombrowski saw in Ramirez that 3IP just completely vanquished...

Once he was”selected” and placed on the 40 man roster, he’s no longer on a minor league contract and all the normal option clauses kick in.

My hunch is Ramirez was brought up solely for the role he was used in the other day: to eat innings in a blow-out game. Walden has pitched a bunch and Velazquez wasn’t available to fill the role. He is now. There was no intent to keep Ramirez.

Once a player is sent down, he has to stay in the minors for 10 days unless another player is placed on the IL. They couldn’t bring Walden back for Ramirez directly so they first subbed Walden for Pedroia and then Lin for Ramirez.

I think it is a sneaky way to get around the rules and recall Walden . Pedroia to the IL , replaced by Walden . Ramirez DFA 'd , replaced by Lin . I don' t think they could have recalled Walden to replace Ramirez .

But it wasn’t really a blowout game until after Ramirez pitched...

Thanks for the clarification.

Sad, but predictable. Pedroia needs to get off the ball field and into a knee brace permanently to delay the need for a total knee replacement, which I think he will eventually need. As for the Red Sox, its time to move on.

Reportedly, it is just a minor setback . So let's not be too quick to rule him out.

Now Nunez is back on the IL, this time with a back strain. We need some healthy players!

We probably contracted injury-itis at Yankee Stadium.

It is most definitely the Yankees' fault.

There's no other reasonable explanation.

I know he wasn't great last year, but I thought they should have retained Kinsler.

Pedroia was done and we all knew it.

Who needs healthy players? Yankees had 6 starters on the DL and kicked the Sox ass.

So, not as serious as we thought. We are going to be hearing about this all year. This is probably his last season. If he doesnt retire, they will DL him next year and pay him to stay away from the team (like the Yankees with Ellsbury).

This was talked about in another thread, but best used here. Pedroia was scratched from his most recent game with renewed knee soreness. He has looked gimpy in his rehab starts and hasn't hit anywhere since 2017. He had a good run, but he is done.
