Jump on. There's enough room right now. Don't wait until all the good seats are taken.

It will be really interesting to see where they bat him in the lineup, especially if he is raking.

7th...maybe 6th.

Agreed, the lineup to me looks like : Beinitendi, Betts, JDM, Devers or Bogaerts, Bogaerts or Devers, Pearce/Moreland, Pedroia, Vazquez/Leon, JBJr. I place Jackie B in the 9th slot mostly because I want him on base in front of the Benny/Betts/JDM crew instead of the base clogging thick thighed catchers. Devers is set for a big year and if JBJr listens to JDM , he will be the leagues best #9 hitter. No real reson for Pedey to hit above #7, as he may only play 110 games or less in a good year so picture Holt/Nunez filling that slot 1/3 of the time without disrupting the rest of the hitters routine slot

Makes sense. Possibly even bat him 8th because Pedroia - JBJ - Beni - Betts is a great sequence

Possibly it will be Vazquez/Swihart in which case at least part of the time there would be some speed out of the catcher position. I generally agree with your lineup though. If you believe in righty/lefty then maybe Devers/ Bogaerts is the way to go.

Pedroia will play 3 innings on Saturday. All the rotation members remain scheduled to pitch in games starting Saturday: Rodriguez (Sat), Porcello (Sun), Sale (minor league game Mon), Price (Tues), Eovaldi (Wed).

I'd go...

vs RHPs

1 Beni

2 Betts

3 Bogey

4 JD

5 Devers

6 Moreland

7 Pedey (maybe flip with Moreland, if he proves he's back)

8 JBJ

9 Vaz-Leon

vs LHPs

1 Bogey

2 Betts

3 Pearce

4 JD

5 Beni

6 Pedey

7 Devers

8 Vaz-Leon

9 JBJ

Tzu-Wei Lin smokes a double to LF. He’s gone from a player who sprayed grounders everywhere in the lower minors to someone who hits a lot of line drives from gap to gap. Sox have a lot of IF depth options with Holt, Nunez, and Lin.

Travis Lakins is ranked by @BaseballAmerica as the @RedSox no. 17 prospect. The @OhioStateBASE product enters today’s game against the @Orioles with 6 scoreless innings thrown in #GrapefruitLeague play.

Lakins in 2018 with the PawSox- (1-0), 1.65 ERA, 16 IP, 0.98 WHIP #Milb

Cora said before the game that he expects (Darwinzon) Hernandez to be a big league contributor this year, with an ETA that is after Opening Day but before September.

Hernandez in the 3rd: Single, fielder’s choice, GIDP. 6 pitches, do a total of 15 pitches over his final 2 innings/6 batters. Again: all bad contact.

Dustin Pedroia told me he feels good after yesterday’s game. Another step forward. #redsox #springtraining #mlb

3 innings, 0 runs, 1 hit, 1 walk, 4 strike outs.....my hope is he pitches in majors as a reliever this year and stretch him out to start next year.....mark my words, that's what the Sox will do.

That's my boy! I think I've adopted him.

With both Holt and Nunez becoming fee agents next year, Lin is someone that can take over one of the utility roles.

Heh, I literally clicked on this thread to post something about Lin. I like him a lot, and it's a shame he doesn't really have a spot on this team right now barring an injury. Hope he gets a chance before too long, because he definitely seems like a guy who could contribute.

Not surprised by this at all. I noted a few days ago that Sale really really likes what he sees from Hernandez. That is good enough for me.

This is Sox manager talking.

Yet the smart people on this board doesn't think he'll be ready this year.

They should apply for the job.

Always pay attention to what Cora and DD says. There's never a misdirection from DD.

Sale and Cora seem to agree. Works for me. Also I also continue to believe that we will be getting some pretty good help from our much maligned farm system.

I think that it is actually possible that Hernandez breaks camp with the big club. he could be a hidden gem.

He does contribute. As a AAAA player. Able to play solid defense in the INF, and the OF if needed. Maybe he makes this team as a 6th INF, but he is nothing more than that. Roster wise, he is right where he should be.

Its always hard to say with Spring Training.

A couple years ago (maybe 10!!) Dave McCarty, I believe, led all of baseball in spring training in homeruns with 10 or so (completely going off memory). He barely made the team. Its not so much the performance, as it is the scouts and management evaluating the players.

Very unlikely.

He’ll get a shot at some point this year, but this roster had so few questions to begin with. And spring training really isn’t a tryout. That’s what the minor league season is for...

Johnson & Velazquez have struggled in ST'ing, so far, but there's a ways to go, and Johnson is out of options.

I can't see DHernandez making it early in the season, unless a couple pitchers get hurt, and even then, he may not get the call.

It is unlikely but yet possible. In most situations of course spring training performance doesn't amount to much but every now and then a nice surprise presents itself. Personally, I really don't think that the names of Valesqu...(whatever) and Johnson are names that are already penciled in to any roster card. Probably, but as much as I like Johnson, neither of these guys makes me utter a sigh of relief filled confidence knowing that they are out there. I think that there is still a little competition in camp.

In past years me saying something like this has resulted in a deluge of genius comments explaining to me the insignificance of spring training performances. I'm already quite aware of that.

I mean there was that time the day after the season ended and he said “no players require surgery” and within a week of him saying that 4 players were under the knife with the first surgery occurring the day after he said it......,

Not fair bringing up facts.

That was weird. But all in all I'd say it was an anomaly.
