Honestly, I think you read too much into it.

Plus we get a lot more information than we really need thanks to the internet...

Vaz's OPS is .723. It's like you're converting from US dollars to Canadian dollars or something.

I got the .855 from espn and they calculated his slugging % incorrectly.

No, no, no, no, and no. It's invaluable to discuss what DD and Cora might have been thinking. We should never, ever evaluate decisions based on available stats or what happened as a result of the decision. Aren't you the lawyer? If so, you should know that motive is everything.

Was it insufficent activity in ST? I certainly don't know, but it is a plausible idea.

We'll never know for sure, but IMO, it was the insufficient activity in ST.

Regardless, it's good to see the rotation coming into form.

Heck, we played Bogey at 3B smack in the midst of a playoff run after just 10 games at 3B in the minors.

It's not panic: it's just what you do when your top 3 guys on the 2B depth chart are on the IL.

It was a choice of offense vs defense.

Today, Cora chose defense.

Maybe his statements were made before he found out one of our 2Bman wouldn't be ready by today.

I get why he was called up. Hence, I initially recanted my 'panic move' comment.

Choosing offense over defense is fine if that is the overall better move for the team, but don't make statements the day before that Chavis will not be playing 2B.

To turn right around and contradict your own statement because Chavis has one good at bat comes across as nothing more than desperation.

At times , there seems to be a bit of disconnect between Cora and the front office.

Yes, I do agree with this.

Should we not look to see where the highest ceiling maybe at each position within the organization?

Obviously it's not Lin. He's our next Brock Holt, at best.

Why not try Chavis? He came up as a shortstop. We're asking him to be adequate 2B. You know, just make routine plays.

I applaud the team for turning over every rock looking for an edge.

If Pedey does not come back, I can see Chatham getting a shot at 2B.

I don't have a problem with Chavis starting at 2B.

All I'm saying is that the Red Sox complete about face about Chavis over a couple of days screams panic.

I'm not saying it won't work. It could very well be a gold mine move.

Well, Pedroia played only 6 games and may not ever return to the lineup. Nunez is what he is, a guy slightly above replacement whose versatility is the sole reason he's on the club.

I'm not sure bringing Chavis up is the "gamble" or "panic move" that people are saying it his. He's a guy that can hit in the minors. He's their top prospect and has nothing left to prove down there. His defense may never get better, so there's no issue with just bringing him up and see if he can stick.

To me, a panic move would be bringing up Dalbec, Hernandez or Chatham today. Those guys need more time in the minors. Hernandez may be up later this season, which seems like an ok timetable for me. If Chatham gets a cup of coffee at the end of the year, it would make sense too. It would just be weird to bring him up right now. Feltman, Shawaryn and Lakins will also probably be up at some point and those guys are ready to contribute sooner than later.

Cora himself pretty much said that Chavis needs more time in AAA.

Maybe not in so many words, that but was clearly his message.

Not a panic move at all. They are trying to get a good bat into the lineup by shifting Chavis to 2B. He has played there in the minors recently. The Red Sox worked Mookie Betts bat into the lineup by shifting him to the OF. That wasn’t a panic move either. It worked out and they got a premo bat into the lineup. It would be great if this move works out and we can add a premium bat to our lineup.

So what changed between 2 days ago (Chavis will not be playing 2B) and 1 day ago?

Chavis' one good at bat?

Maybe they sent him out to do some work with the coaches and the footwork was there. Let's face it, with the new wussie rule, second basement don't have to do a lot of acrobatics around the bag. If Vasquez, could handle it, I guess that they thought a real IFer could handle it. It was about getting a better bat in the lineup. He was just fine in the field.

Or the bad 26 at bats by the rest of the team?

You have to look at the alternatives. Pedroia is injured and may be out for longer than 10 days, perhaps with another rehab assignment to get him more comfortable at the plate. Nunez who is not a particularly good fielding 2nd baseman and has knee problems of his own. He may well need more rehab time. Holt who can play 2nd but shouldn't be full time, as he is needed at a sub at several positions. Lin is a good defensive player, but is pretty light hitting. So there doesn't appear to be a hands down first choice for the position and Chavis looks like he can do a reasonable job at 2nd and add some pop to the lineup. This doesn't have to be a long term solution, but certainly is a reasonable short term solution.

Either Lin or Chavis is a reasonable short-term solution. It depends on whether Cora wants to favor offense or defense at 2B while Pedey is out.

You posters just love reading into everything. I just don’t get worked up over quotes in the paper that come out of context.

I don't believe that there is any type of disconnect at all between upper management and Cora. Might be a disconnect between management, media, and fan base. Maybe Cora and DD just don't see the awesome value in spilling the entire contents of what they know and what their plans might be to the media and subsequently to us. What is wrong with them? - think abut it - We need to know everything at all times . How else can we help them run their organization! telling us that Chavis isn't going to be playing second base and then sticking him out there! How dare they with out asking us first. and how about Eovaldi - didn't I read somewhere that he might not need surgery? It's just not right.

A moment of lucidity.

We don’t know everything and the media sometimes gives us partial quotes, and even then can’t print intonation.

And whether he thinks Chavis is “ready” or not doesn’t take into consideration that 3 of the Sox 5 players with 2b experience (not counting Pearce) are on the IL. There’s no reason to not bulk up Chavis’ experience with some OJT...

I'm no lawyer.

I believe you. I hope you realize that those five no's were meant facetiously. I am tired of the endless discussion about whether Cora and DD are completely in sync about what I regard as a trivial topic--who to play at 2b on a given day. I would not have put Vazquez out there, but always think Cora has his reasons for every move. I did like Chavez out there because I'm willing to "sacrifice" some defense for a better bat. Those quotation marks are because, with Kinsler gone and Nunez and Pedey on the DL, it is to me silly to demand fielding excellence at 2b.

CPA's are the salt of the earth. Our daughter married one. And our 501©3 depends on one.

I love lawyer jokes, but painfully have to remember that some of them authored a pretty fair document back in 1787.

I vote for Lin.

Not me. I like Lin a lot, but think right now we can use the better bat--Chavis--and not give up too much defense.

However, to be perfectly honest, I am almost always happy with whatever lineup Cora decides to use that day.
