They need a starter to get them up to 4, but they have other internal options (Cessa, Loasigia, German) who aren’t coming off multiple surgeries this off-season.

And hey, Keuchel and Gio Gonzalez still need jobs ...

After their offseason of restraint, signing Keuchel would be quite the about-face. A big salary and at least 20% tax on top of it.

Don’t forget ellsbury, the human banana and training room staple. Plus...

Isn’t it rumored that Tanaka pitched with a partially torn UCL last season?

Ellsbury on the DL is a plus for the Yanks.

??? CC is just missing his first start because of suspension, right?

I thought it was his health issues, but I could be wrong.

I think it's a plus for them financially too because they collect insurance. He'll probably never suit up in pinstripes again.

Maybe their “restraint” was just holding back in case of an emergency. Reportedly they have already been connected to Gonzalez...

I put in the Yankee thread the projected schedule to maximize the use of our rotation. I have Loaisiga throwing once and German throwing 3 times with a projected Sevy return in Anaheim on April 25. Of the four games our depth guys throw, 3 will be vs Detroit or KC and one will be vs Houston (probably get racked that day).

Do you live under a rock?

He's been pitching with it since his first season in the majors.........

So, Severino & CC start out on the DL.

Didi is out for months and may never be the same.

They knight in shiny armor, Paxton, never plays a full season.

Yet, we are the ones who need to fear injuries.

Every team needs to fear injuries.......

Not really, as Cashman had already stated earlier in the offseason to not rule anything out till Opening Day.

Regardless, they were obviously staying away from any big dollar signings. It just so happens that Keuchel is still on the board, which couldn't have been predicted.

I can't believe both of those guys are still available. Wow.

I don't think Keuchel would consider signing with the Yankees because he'd have to shave that beard he's been growing for half a decade.

Gio's velo has been way down the past two years. I'm not sure if his stuff would play in the AL. He's a back of the rotation starter going forward IMO. He has value, but isn't going to be cashing big checks in FA. It's very likely that he signs with the Yanks for a one year deal.

Dallas has been very up and down over his short career and there are questions about his durability. He's definitely not a contender for a long term contract and I think he's holding out for more than a one year deal at this point. From MLBTraderumors: The lefty’s strikeout percentage dipped from 21.4 percent in 2017 to 17.5 percent in 2018 (7.7 K/9 vs. 6.7), and his swinging-strike rate fell from 10.9 percent to 8.3 percent. His ground-ball rate of 53.7 percent, while well north of the league average, also represented a substantial step back from 2017’s 66.8 percent mark and from his overall career mark of 58.8 percent. The biggest problem is that he was expecting a 9 figure deal and held out for one. Now, most potential suitors have moved on without him.

The Yankees also have a less-publicized rule that players have to be circumcised...

I thought I read that a player has to miss the entire season for the insurance to kick in.

Not sure.

I give Yankees credit. They made very good off season moves. I like one comment that was made by Cashman or someone else in the organization. They want to keep the core together and they realize at some point, their young super stars will go through what Betts is going through. $20M in second year of arbitration? They can't load up on long term contracts with veteran free agents. Old Yankees would have jumped on Harper and/or Machado.

Just think what they could have done with Ellsbury money.

Well, ellsbury's contract will be gone when guys like Judge and Torres are set to get the bigger money, not to mention I hardly see Keuchel getting more than 3 or 4yrs guaranteed at this point.

And it's not like the Yanks can't afford it.

I'm sure your happy about that as it means less smegma in your diet!

Says the guy whose job is to see if the players qualify for that rule...

It was for the suspension carried over from last season.

So the heart and other health issues are all okay?

I guess this article is all BS, then...

CC Sabathia

After symptoms made clear that he was having trouble with his heart, Sabathia had surgery to clear his arteries, and had to have a stent put in. Luckily, they caught the heart problem in time, and he’s been cleared to pitch. The procedure set back his workout routine though. Sabathia has yet to throw his first bullpen session, and Aaron Boone doesn’t expect him to throw one for a few more weeks. They plan to move him along slowly during spring training.

Ellsbury doesn’t factor into our plans this year regardless. Gregorius was known to be out at the beginning of the off-season, which is why we have LeMahieu. Tanaka has been pitching with this for years. Hicks has a sore back with no structural deficit and will be back within the next week or two. The biggest concern here, is clearly Severino. If this is just a sore shoulder and he returns at the end of April as prognosticated, then we are going to be very strong in the rotation. As we all know, shoulders can be tricky. If this ends up being a more significant injury, we are going to need to make an acquisition or hope that some of our live armed kids can fill the need until Montgomery he returns. I would anticipate that with the preseason expectations being hyped up on this team, that we wouldn’t leave this in the hands of an untested rookie.

OK.

Just a "sore shoulder" for Sev, but Sale is all but burnt toast.

Nobody said it was BS, the article clearly states that he was cleared to pitch. They are just happy that the suspension allows them to bring him along a little slower.

So, you think he starts the day after his suspension is lifted (or does not miss a start due to health issues)?
