I know it's just one year, but still....This is the best AZ could do?

Arizona got themselves their 2019 starting catcher, a not-insignificant amount of slot money and a couple of guys with major league projection. Really it comes down to how you assess Carson Kelly. I can see it from their PoV. It made a ton of sense for the Cards obviously.

It just seems like they could have done better.

(I'm no expert on other teams' prospects or players.)

I think it's a straight claim and not a trade.

So, we're down to 39, and a RP'er signing seems eminent.

If we go for another RP'er, here's a short list of who might be DFA'd next, assuming nobody is traded:

1) Marco Hernandez (with Quiroz traded, maybe we give him one more look)

2) Sam Travis (maybe his move to the OF gives him some more time)

3) Chandler Shepherd (There are probably non-40 man roster pitchers ahead of him on our depth chart.)

4) Marcus Walden (doubtful DFA, IMO)

Out of options trade candidates:

1) Swihart

2) Johnson

3) Hembree

I’m hoping they hold on to Hernandez like to see what he can do if he gets healthy. Think it’s between Walden and Shepherd unless they trade Swihart.

Looks like we tried to sneak him through waivers but got busted!

Maybe, but maybe DD likes Chandler more, and we will sign someone soon.

Looks like DD might be planning on a Rule 5 pick...

That would be really interesting. Is there a lefty telling ever that we would take with pick 30 in the ete 5 draft?

Or maybe a utility infielder?

My proposal: Swihart, B.Johnson, and another player to the Mets for Noah Syndergaard. That "another player" would need to be pretty good, can't seem to find the right match to include in the trade.

It would probably have to be Devers or Benintendi. And I’m not sure Devers is enough with the scrap heap. Pull the trigger for Beni?

I pass...

Relief pitcher or infielder. Or best available player from the team that takes Ockimey for the easy trade...

Wait, so you thought he package Meh posed for Syndergaard was light yet you throw Swihart and Johnson plus one other guy and think that’s enough for him? Cmon now.

Proves nothing. We aren't trading Porcello, JBJ or Bogey. We wouldn't have signed Eovaldi, if we were looking to rebuild.

This is just attention getting.

Or the-arranging the furniture. It’s not like they’re dealing them for prospects to bolster the farm.

Maybe clearing money for Harper, who’s had surprisingly little interest League wide?

Just spitballing...

Clearing money for the bullpen is not implausible.

Stay tuned . Things could get interesting . It is going to be tough to have as good a team next season as we had this season . The question is : How close can we come ? The Yankees are going to be improved , maybe significantly improved . We cannot afford to lose too much and still remain on top . I don't think D.D. is looking to clear payroll for the bullpen . Maybe for a major acquisition . Then again , maybe it is all just idle hot stove blather . We will see .

Sox payroll is already at about 240 million for tax purposes. And 2 high-quality free agent relievers will probably set you back around 20 million in total AAV. So the rumor is not implausible.

If they deal any of those 3, it’s also possible a reliever or two comes back...

Per MLBTR, the Diamondbacks are interested in JBJ. Oh, but we aren’t supposed to do “trade Bradley” threads.

I’ll delete the article from MLBTR...

I think that we all know that with dD anything is possible . JBL- Porcello- Bogaerts - Who knows ! I don't think that any of those guys gets traded just to save a buck. We won't get snookered if any deal is made.

The Porcello inclusion doesn’t surprise me. This has been theorized before where the Sox replace Porcello with Eovaldi and run Johnson or Velasquez out there as the 5. It weakens the club, depending on what returns. I think you’re clearly seeing that Henry does have a cap on what he can spend. They’re probably at that cap

Bogaerts is tough to envision being dealt. With only one year left, his appeal is limited to contending teams, but most of them already have good shortstops.

Except one pinstriped one...

Brewers? Braves?

Oh I beg to differ - JH may very well have a self imposed budgetary cap but he sure as hell has no cap on what he can spend if he choses to spend. Guess we will just have to wait and see what he decides to do. By the way - c'mon do I ever hope the Yanks sign Machado.
