Who thinks this series is over? The Yankee bats are clicking big time. We have 4 good to great hitters they have 9 good to great hitters. After Bogarts our lineup is terrible. As far as pitching I don’t need to say anything. Price was saying after the game he knows he can win in the playoffs but his 0-10 record would say he can’t. Their bullpen is so dominant they don’t need good starting pitching. It’s just hard for me to say they’re going to win this series after what I’ve seen the last two nights. We got lit up tonight and they almost came back the night before. It feels like the last two years all over again. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t think I am.

Unreal!

With fans like this, we deserve to lose.

Can you say I’m wrong after the last two nights? I’d love to say I think we’re going to win the series and do it in a dominant fashion. The last two nights didn’t make me think that. They almost came back last night and lit us up tonight. Their bullpen is just one dominant pitcher after another. Ours is one mediocre pitcher after another except Kimberl. I’m asking the question is it over? So say no and you think we’re going to win the series. We have Mookie, Benny, JD, and Bogarts. They have 1-9 that can really hit. Heck even 80 year old McCutchen had an RBI hit. It’s just an opinion that I really hope is wrong.

You are not only wrong, you should become a Yankee fan, if you give up this easily.

Just because the momentum seems to be in one team's favor, doesn't mean Jack.

You probably shut off your TV in 2004 and missed it all, didn't you?

lol That is right Moon because here on this forum it has been confirmed that there is no such thing as momentum, home field advantage, clutch players, or players who choke.

I'm saying that last night Price got screwed by the home plate umpire. He is a pitcher not a thrower. If he can't get the corners, he isn't going to beat a team like the Yankees. Despite that, I have no interest in robotic strike callers. Lord knows all of the wonderful technological "advancements" that we live with have already screwed up enough things.

Here we have two excellent baseball teams playing in a series that could go either way. The Red Sox can certainly win this series. Hopefully they will but sadly so can the Yankees.

Wow. I have to ask just why you are so optimistic when the Sox are playing exactly the way they played in the last two ALDS's, when Price once again got hammered in the postseason (where he is now 0-10), when the Yankees bullpen remains so dominant, and when their lineup is so relentless?

As the OP says, forget last night, it happens. The scary game was Friday night when we won after Sale had a great start--his longest since July 27--and JDM hit a 3 run dinger and the Sox should have been off to the races. Nope. Enter our woebegone bullpen and the Yankees lineup which had us Sox fans on the edge or our seats until the last out in a 5-4 win.

Now we are headed for Yankee Stadium where the Sox are 3-6 for the year.

I agree it's not over. Not in baseball. Not after being down 0-3 to the Yankees in the 2004 ALCS and 1-3 to the Guardians in the 2007 ALCS. There is always hope.

But let me tell you something loud and clear. If you aren't worried, you aren't paying attention.

Speaking for the pessimists, I have to say I like the very strong rebuttals by the optimists here and on the game thread. Well done. It's just one game. Sox will sweep in Yankee Stadium when we bring out our righty starters. This is the same team that won 108 games, most in Sox history. We lost the ALDS in 2016 and 2017 because of Farrell, no one else, and now we have Cora.

The only thing missing is that hit song from Damn Yankees--You Gotta Have Heart (all you really need is heart).

Basically, it's down to a 3 game series. The Sox have been winning 3 game series all year long. I know the post season is a different animal and the opponent is a tougher opponent than what we've seen most of the year, but the Sox can absolutely win this.

The series is anything but over.

With sale going game 5 it really comes down to taking 1 out of 2.....

Momentum means nothing. That said, I do think the advantage has shifted to the Yankees because they now have 'HFA'. That said, you see how much 'HFA' did for us when we had it - a split.

As I posted earlier in another thread, I sometimes think it's better not to have HFA in the ALDS because the opposing team only has to win 1 of the 2 first games, then they have a chance to go home and clinch it.

The series isn't over but we are probably looking at a 50-50 chance now.

Actually, I believe it was a 50-50 chance at the start of the series. Now, technically, based on history, we are looking at a 37% chance. LOL Home teams who split the first two games have won the series 37% of the time.

But this is the postseason. And these are the Boston Red Sox. Throw those numbers out the window!

On average, I don't like our chances against Sev & Company on Monday. Maybe Rick will pitch that same terrific game that he did earlier against the Yanks, but it's hard to have faith based on a single game.

It's possible we can get some extra power from Morland and Devers, which could make up the difference.

However, if we lose this game, Yankee Stadium will be Rocking in game 4, and no one on that team wants to face Sale in Boston. This means a real pressure game for Eovaldi, and if something should start to turn against him, he could fold up his act.

I still think our two weaknesses are an uncertain BP and a very predictable bottom 4-5 in the lineup.

Yep, I just read this:

Alex Speier stat - home team that splits first two games wins 37% of series.

The good news IMO: that 37% seems low, maybe we are in for a market correction.

The Red Sox are in trouble, though. But we could say the same thing about the Red Sox in the 2004, 2007, and 2013 postseasons. You reach a point where your back is against the wall and then you see how the team responds.

Win Monday everything flips, Yanks will be in panic mode. Just do your best Monday. Play smart, and aggressive, they didn't last night.

Of course, the worst case scenario for us could unfold. OTOH, so could the best case scenario. Three games - It's hard to predict anything.

Think positively!

I do think the Yankees have the advantage now, but I don't think that that advantage really means much.

Exactly. Win one game and the whole tide of the series changes back to our advantage.

I'm saying that last night Price got screwed by the home plate umpire.

Huh?

That home plate umpire last night was about as good as it gets. The only calls he “missed” per the K Zone were about as marginal as it gets. And when you remember his job entails trying to determine if a 95 mph pitch passed even partially through an imaginary box that’s maybe 7 or 8 cubic feet in volume and do so in a mere second or two, I’d say his performance last night was outstanding.

Price got “screwed over” because he threw an 0-2 pitch right down the middle to Judge and because he foolishly walked the 8 and 9 hitters back to back...

While his W-L record says otherwise, Porcello did pitch very well against the Yankees this year in 4 starts...

It’s babe. This is a good one though.

Wait, I thought you said I was babe?

How many posters will you accuse of being babe?

Do you look under your bed for him before going to sleep at night?

That dude has really gotten into your head, pretty funny!!
