The last time Pedroia had a higher season WAR than Kinsler was 2013. How about that undermarket contract! Maybe we could trade Pedroia for a few random minor league arms too.

Yep the JBJ slide started the whole thing. As the throw went to 3rd my first thought was he may be able to beat the throw. I mean he is the only player on the team with that kind of speed. I was really critical of him all year but man it's good to see the good JBJ again.

On Fridays, I like to play fast and loose with my posting.

This Sox team is a juggernaut. They could actually spot the Yankees four runs , then just roll over them. Holder looked scared to death on the Fenway mound. A sweep would put an end to the race. Don't let up now.

I agree, don't let up. Stomp on them while they're down and don't let them back up.

If Severino loses, they've lost with their ace.

If Happ loses (or did he go on the DL?), our pickup beats their pickup. Not to mention Eovaldi is an ex-Yankee, so their message boards will be like, "Why can't we get guys like that?"

If Tanaka loses - and Price wins - then the monkey is finally off Price's back.

What great storylines!

As Danny Ainge (I think) said, "availability is an ability" - and on that front Kinsler and Pedroia just don't compare since 2013. While folks can disagree about whether Kinsler has been Pedroia over that time frame when they have been playing ... Kinsler actually HAS been playing, and that is a big deal.

Seeing the top of the order hit was a great thing and timely for the first Yankee game. Keep it up and now Bogaerts can get going tomorrow. Maybe Severino will have command issues tomorrow and we can take advantage of his slippage as during his previous 4 games. We still need a good game from Porcello.

After the win, I have a feeling that the Sox are going to keep Bogaerts out of the line up again, even if he feels like he can go, which I think would be the wise thing to do.

The Sox have had pretty good success against Severino, especially at Fenway.

Made a statement tonight! If we can get at Severino in tomorrow night's game we can break their spirt in the rest of the series.

All we need to do is play .500 ball against the Yankees in the remainder of our games with them and they will have a very difficult time catching us.

Of course, it would be preferable to go ahead and put the nail in their proverbial coffin.

I think that's fair. Kinsler has a strong Hall of Fame case. Pedroia's is better with the MVP, the 2 titles and of course his status as one of the best 10 or so position players in the history of a tentpole franchise like the Red Sox. But the gap in late career durability is legitimate - and you can't ignore that.

I understand why there's all this talk on Pedey, and I'd like to add that if he realizes he's done, I hope he will retire and forgo the remainder of his contract. The Sox could then sign him to a lifetime services contract as a coach for about the same amount he gave up.

Kinsler is a real pro. I love this move by DD. The Pearce deal was pure genius.

Maybe DD should just stick to these mid range deals and stay away from big name free agents.

Play better than that and we could knock the yankees out of the playoffs altogether.

Great post. Occasionally there's a big name free agent who seems ignored by most teams, like JDM last year, and that's a situation to pounce.

Oh yeah, he should have avoided J D Martinez like the plague. :)

JD should have gotten more, so to me, that was a "mid range" deal. (LOL)

Screw the nail in the coffin.

I want the Sox to put a stake through their black hearts!

He got what the market priced - there is some considerable risk in the deal ... but the Red Sox could clearly afford the downside. The upside was so immense - and so specifically perfect to what ailed the Sox - that it made sense to figure it out. And moreover, the deal is structured in a way that makes sense for everybody.

Most big name free agents are bad deals anyway - but unfortunately often you gotta do it.

Not if you have a strong farm system. ;)

Uh uh. If Theo does it, it has to be done.

Yes, but not 'often'.

When Dombrowski builds his own strong farm system for the Sox, he will then have the right to do with it whatever he chooses.

Not that I will like it any better if he decimated it again.

Setting Ramirez free, along with the signings of Pearce, Eovaldi, and Kinsler are all moves that have helped this team move forward. These 3 seem to bring an approach to the game and the team in general that any fan should appreciate.

Red Sox have graduations to deal with - we'll see what happens. Every team faces it.

While many big contracts fail from the start, most hurt towards the end of the deals. The JD contract was not long. It was a great deal for us and probably for JD as well.
