soxprospects reports...

The PawSox blasted three home runs and Rusney Castillo had his best game of the season as Pawtucket came out on top in a slugfest. Steven Wright was cruising through five innings in his second rehab start, but he hit a wall in the sixth as he allowed the first four batters to reach base without recording an out before he was pulled. All four eventually came in to score, and he ended the day with five runs allowed over five innings, with a walk and four strikeouts. Marcus Walden allowed the inherited runners to score in his first appearance since being optioned on April 20.

A great outing from Roniel Raudes led Salem past the Pelicans. Raudes tossed six shutout innings and allowed only two hits while walking one and striking out three. He has allowed one earned run or less in four of his five starts on the season.

Alex Scherff's rough start to the year continued as he surrendered four runs over five innings, walking three.

@SPChrisHatfield

Highlights include LHP Jalen Beeks jumping into the top ten and RHP Kutter Crawford taking the largest jump, moving up 24 spots into the top 40.

Chris Hatfield spends his life figuring out which prospect is 1, 2, 3, etc. Deep thinker.

I don't know if Peter Alonso is for real but I would call the Mets and offer B.Swilhart for Peter Alonso. At this point, I guess the Mets wouldn't do it, but they are very desperate for a C. However, I'm not sure if B.Swilhart even profiles as a full time catcher anymore, and, even if he does, would the Mets trade a guy who is raking in AA? Edited by Fan_since_Boggs

How about Swihart and steroid boy Chavis?

Nobody is going to offer anything for Swihart. It's obvious the sox are hanging onto him only because he is out of options. Eventually the sox will need the roster spot and Blake will be DFA'd.

Leon's OPS is about what his OBP usually is (.261). Although I would not DFA Leon, I do think there's an outside chance they keep Swihart over Leon or create a phantom DL for onr of them once Pedey returns.

Guys like Leon are dime a dozen. I believe we got him off of waivers. We can find another one.

We paid some cash for him.

Wouldn't Velazquez get a shot first?

No. I like Velazquez as the 6th man. I think he has shown he can be productive out of the pen. Beeks is strictly a SP right now.

What would be the point? Leon knows the pitching staff and he's been Porcello's exclusive catcher and Porcello has been our best pitcher.

I get your point, but Velazquez looked good as a starter too--at the MLB level!

Beeks has a very low margin for error when he comes to Boston. I think he is dangled rather than promoted

Scouts and prospects are often wrong about some players. Is it possible you've been wrong about this kid?

46Ks and 7 BBs in 26.1 IP is getting the job done and then some.

I admit, I did not have much hope for him before this small sample size to start 2018, but I'm beginning to think maybe we'll finally have a pleasant surprise instead of another in the long line of Sox pitching prospect disapointments.

The thing I like b st about beeks is it looks like he is throwing four pitches for strikes, when he is locating well, he had tremendous success. But because his stuff is not electric, he has to walk a tight rope in order to succeed!

He must be doing something right to K close to 2 per inning.

He catches every fifth day. A new guy could get up to speed pretty quick. I’m not advocating for the change.
