teams would submit offers with all that in it or use them things to sweeten deals just like now

Players would probably need an agent just to review the contract tho.

So, you are in favor of handing out albatross contracts to avoid staying status quo.

Just say it with me: "You are right Kimmi."

Of course you are right. We are in 'debt' right now, we have the highest 'luxury' tax payroll. We already have $31M contract on our books. Sale and Betts will require big numbers.

IT WOULD BE STUPID TO GIVE OUT $210m/7 YEAR DEAL FOR FUTURE DH.

You know what? I want to see some of our younger players get an opportunity to play. We still have pretty good line up for two more years.

i am glad that you don’t teach reading comprehension.

MLB Trade Rumors have not even speculated at any other teams that could be involved in JD bidding for quite a while. The Sox have a 5 year offer on the table. "There is word" that another 5 year offer exists, but it's most likely from the Mystery Team from Unknown Parts that Boras seems to deal with every offseason since it hasn't been attached to any team as of yet. Therefore, the Sox have the highest offer on the table[/].

I suspect only J.D. Martinez and Scott Boras know what offers are on the table ... and apparently to date they haven't received an acceptable one.;)

His circuits would overheat at the mere thought.

Would it not be super cool if All offers for free agents went through a website that was open to the public?

Well, not knowing whether they would have increased it anyway, it's hard to say, but yes, it makes sense to me.

I'm thinking you misunderstood my question. Let's assume my original example was correct, and that SF outbid us by $2.5M, but the Sox were given a chance to match or beat that offer. Assume, without any OF demands, the Sox NOT were prepared to offer $5M more ($2.5M more than SF) or even $2.5M more. Why would the added demand of JD wanting to play OF make it more likely we'd up our offer?

So if there isn't an injury risk and he was just a late bloomer a la Bautista, I see no problem with the signing.

JD has had injury issues, but much of his low PA seasons earlier in his career had to do with not being a FT'er.

Not necessarily. They might be fine with an offer on the table and find it "acceptable" but are hoping to get more by waiting.

I think that's exactly what's going on.

i have no problem admitting that someone is right and that I am wrong. But I don’t do it when it is not true. Enough people told you that you were misrepresenting what I said. But keep trying . It is a good laugh, but an indictment of our education system.

I've been reading this board for 4 years and haven't seen you so much as hint at being wrong. Never had your mind changed. It's alright, you're that kind of guy. Takes all sorts. And seeing as you believe it so poor, it's a good job I wasn't educated in your educational system, then.

Perhaps I should have written: not currently acceptable.

Maybe J,.D. Martinez and Scott Boras are waiting for the Red Sox to top the current best offer from another club.:)

Or not.

Bruce just signed for 3 yrs $39 mil. He’s a good comp for JD. The market for bat only sluggers is a dry one

He’s the Kohl’s version of JD.

Cool! One less mistake signing off the books.

Also, same contract as Shane Victorino's deal with us.

What about picking up Starlin Castro in a trade. Good 2nd baseman and young as well. Salary is around 9 million. I wonder about Pedey.

If we had lots of money to play with and some prospects to trade it would certainly would be worth considering. But we're limited in both areas so we have to prioritize. Our top priorities should be a bat and a starting pitcher. We'll have to get by at second base with Hernandez, Holt or whoever...unless and until we find out Pedroia's recovery is not going according to schedule.

IMHO

Wasn't Shane a 1 year $39M deal spread over 3 years?

Jay Bruce got precisely what was projected by MLB Trade Rumors, which projected a six-year, $150 million contract for J.D. Martinez:

https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/2017-18-top-50-mlb-free-agents-with-predictions.html

That projection for JDM was quite fair. If we can get him for less we'll be doing OK.

Not to belabor the point (LOL), but Boras's 7/210 statement was patently absurd and didn't accomplish anything IMO
