They got him for the Orioles, but I think they more-so gave him up because they wanted to "go for it all" that year and got Andrew Miler for him.

I am still disappointed that the Sox did not sign Miller after the season.

The contract thr Yankees gave Miller that year was considered to be a pretty crazy one at the time for a non-closing reliever. Most teams, including the Sox, were not ready to pay $32mill over 4 years for a set up guy.

I thought I'd bump this up to the front page one time because of that disastrous loss today, July 20, when Farrell started Fister in order to give Sale, et al, an extra day's rest as if we didn't just have the 4 day ASG break.

So I blame this 8-6 loss entirely on Farrell, who not only started Fister, but left him in long enough to cough up 6 runs and then, when Pedey's 3 run dinger got it to 7-6, refused to use a good reliever in the later innings. Plus of course he ended up playing Vazquez at 3b.

The only justification I can see for starting Fister instead of Sale today is it ensures success on the upcoming 6 day road trip--3 at the Angels and 3 at the Mariners. So in my view the Sox need to go at least 4-2 on this road trip because today, thanks to Farrell, they gave up a sure win.

So would the Sox have been better off letting Fister give up 6 runs yesterday instead?

I think 3/36 would have wooed Miller back.

He said that he did not want to leave and that this team was his home.

They didn't have to pitch Fister in either of those games.. Price could've pitched last night on regular rest...

Perhaps the Sox aren't convinced that Rodiguez can stay healthy and they need some additional insurance.

He's got a chronic knee issue that doesn't look like it's going away any time soon.

Absolutely on ERod. I have posted many times about the importance of depth. If I'm not mistaken, Fister cannot be sent down without his permission, so we either keep him on the team or risk losing him. I think it behooves the team to determine the best that they can whether Fister is worth a spot on the 25 man roster.

Also, I think there is merit to the idea of giving the starters an extra day of rest. Farrell still has to make decisions based on the whole season, not just today's game.

I will tell you right now that ERod is looking at surgery in the offseason. My assumption is that he is hoping the knee holds out and doesn't sublux or dislocate before November. The surgery will come with a lengthy rehab time and would likely cause him to miss the beginning of the season.

Actually, not so good news. This year Sale is way better at home than on the road and better pitching day games than night games. Plus starting Sale yesterday would have saved the bullpen.

That could be, but whether at home or on the road, he's the pitcher I want on the mound. It was nice to start the road trip off with a win.

Moreland got an RBI yesterday, but keeping him up 4th has now entered the criminal negligence phase.

Finally moved him down.

This is what I have suspected. No amount of prayer or platelet injections can fix that damaged knee.

This will make the fan base happy, though it really won't make a difference in production. Perhaps it will take some pressure off of Moreland, which could help.

Im disappointed the Sox didn't let Farrell walk and name Lovullo Manager.

And of course managers make moves to make the fan base happy without regard to helping the team win. That happens everyday.

it has been stinging since the day he left. Our team responded to Lovullo while Farrell was out, and Farrell was about to be fired when he was diagnosed with cancer.

After the Price incident, Eckersley received apologies from owner John Henry, chairman Tom Werner, CEO Sam Kennedy, and president of baseball ops Dave Dombrowski—but nothing from Price or manager John Farrell.

Girl bye.

How difficult would it have been on that plane to say "Hey, STFU! Seriously, enough!" And the fact that neither Farrell nor any of the supposed 'leaders' on the team said that suggests to me that there ARE no leaders on that team.

I root for John Farrell, I really do. After the last few seasons its hard to defend the man any longer. What nailed it for me was the excuse he made for Betts running through the third base coach stop sign a few games ago. Im all for defending players but at some point you have to hold your players accountable. For those of you who might say "nobody knows if does or not" that is true. When you see the same mental mistakes being made in the field time after time that alone should tell most all we need to know.

If what the Globe and Dan S. are reporting is true about the Eck incident on the plane with Price, then Farrell along with Price must go this offseason.

Ortiz is gone. He ain't coming back. If a Player will not take the lead then its up to the Manager. There is definitely something missing as there was last year.

A lot of truth in what you have said here. Being a player's manager doesn't mean that you let the players do all of the managing.

So true, and as far as Price goes, I have a bad feeling it isn't going to end good for him here. I know pitchers like him don't come walking through the door too often, but right now I think he's a good trade chip that could be packaged for a stud hitter. I know a lot of people will say no way, but I would try under the radar to move him.

I have always believed that how a manager manages the players and the clubhouse is more important than the in game decisions.

I am usually supportive of Farrell, but as I've said before, when the entire team (offensive) is underperforming and looks listless, it is fair to question what's going on from the coaching standpoint. Farrell needs to light a fire under these guys.

As far as the pathetic offense is concerned, Chili Davis, where are you?
