I would never go as far as rooting against my team, especially not for something like this. This story reflects badly but I think it's getting blown up a bit too.

Maybe, but I'm disgusted by what everyone seems to admit are the facts: a bunch of grown men, professional athletes, collectively standing around while one of them hurls f-bombs at a popular reporter, who everyone agrees is doing his job. These guys, and even more, the bozos who manage them, are despicable.

I like Discarcina, a few years back when he was the Pawsox Manager, he worked a lot with the kids that are here now. Real good baseball mind. Always felt Position players make better Managers.

He couldn't be much worse.

I don't dispute what you're saying. I find what's going on to be objectionable going back to "It's not me, it's them" and I'm tired of hearing John Farrell trying weakly to apologize for them. However.... I find it difficult to root against the Sox. I will say that this is becoming a harder and harder team to like.

Pretty desperate when we went to Fister late. We need to get back or trade for another BP arm before the deadline. Neshek would be good but might cost too much.

We do need another BP arm, and Neshek would be great. However, when a game goes into extra innings, it doesn't leave a manager a lot of choice.

I share your sentiments.

There is no excuse for the team's behavior. I don't like the air of players feeling superior to other employees of the team. You treat everyone with the same respect, from the janitor to the CEO.

It's time to say good bye to JF.

(Actually, the time was winter 2015-2016.)

Where is Bobby V when you need him? ;)

There have always been confrontations between players and media. Everyone thought it was funny when Carl Everett dubbed Shaughnessy the Curly Haired Boyfriend. The difference here is that Eck is popular and respected by the fans.

I feel like a horrible person for saying that being diagnosed with cancer saved his job, but I really think he'd probably have been canned at the end of that season otherwise...

Don't feel like a horrible person when it's the truth.

My first thought when I heard breaking news on JF was that he was being fired. When I heard the cancer diagnosis, I hoped that he would be okay, but my next thought was that they would not fire him now that he had cancer.

Probably every Red Sox fan had the exact same thoughts.

And it's not just "some reporter".

Price skwered Evan Drellich a few weeks ago and no one batted an eye.

Eckersley is a color guy who's justtrying to do his job.

He's also very popular with the fan base. That makes it a story.

Price is obviously no brain surgeon, but that was a dumb move.

Nothing fixes a bad situation like winning.

If they don't start doing that soon, this could get really ugly for the entire team.

Good post.

This could easily devolve into something like or worse than chicken and beer.

Yup, the chicken & beer thing made the Sox look stupid.

This latest thing makes them look nasty.

In the real world as in working at a real job, s*** like this gets employees reprimanded in some way. At the least being dragged into an office and scolded by a boss type or Human Resources. Sometimes people get suspended for this type of thing. And then this goes on the employees record and he or she is reminded of it come performance review time.

I have been a Price fan since he came up. But this s*** does not wash. Farrell says this has been "handled internally". No s*** numb nuts. No one has expected a town square flogging.

I just question the effectiveness of this so called handling of the situation. I get the impression that Price and his band of immature twits have gotten off easy.

Trade one to a s***-hole team. Sit someone out for several games. State publicly that this type of behavior will not be allowed on this team.

It's funny, this team is quick to tarnish players on the way out of town ( those who live proximal to Boston know this best ) but don't seem to be able to enforce discipline and civil behavior for current employees.

Weak management.

Ya gotta like Spud's posts. He tells it exactly like it is!

While I agree with all of this, I'm not bothered by any of this crap. I doubt any Sox players are still thinking about it.

This may be a sign of weak management, but to me, the lack of fire & desire is a bigger sign of managerial weakness.

Spud for manager!

While we didn't expect a public flogging, the Red Sox should have considered it to generate ratings and interest in the team.

Trading one of his posse to Philadelphia the next day would have sent a loud message.

Farrell is "a player's" manager which to me means a weak manager. I also get all the Eck love. I love the guy too and I don't like Price. I still think that in his warped way he feels as though he was defending his teammate and if anybody cheered him on, it is likely that they felt the same way. If your job is to report objectively what you see in an athletic contest and somebody sucks and that is what you kind of say, what the f*** do people think is likely to happen when that reporter hops right on the team plane? This is a ******** story that should have been handled differently.

My bone to pick with Farrell is his continued use of Fister--last game at Fenway to start in a game we would have won if anyone else started and last night bringing him back to pitch a 3d inning when we had two other guys available, when we had a lead for crying out loud in the 13th inning, and when he is absolutely guaranteed to blow up by the 3d inning.

As for the Price thing, I think Farrell is caught between a rock and hard place. He can do nothing about Eck because Eck ain't on the roster and is popular besides. On the other hand, he needs Price badly right now, plus Henry is paying him $31M/year.

I seem to remember the Athletics back in the day won 3 WS in a row and were constantly fighting each other, verbally and otherwise.

All due respect to Spudboy, but I just don't MLB as anything like the "real world."

One more small point. I'm tired of defending Farrell and so have taken to attacking him. On the other hand, this has to be the most pathetic Sox lineup I can remember and certainly in the John Henry era.

I can't remember being so angry at a player before. i hope Price goes away.

I'm also angry at the group of cheerleaders he had with him, and since I don't know who that is, I'm kind of just angry with the entire team.

And yea, management or the FO should have done something.

I'm kind of sickened by it all....
