Betts, Pewee, Xander combined 0-12.....PATHETIC

Why does Betts gets a pass on being criticized? He hasn't done jack last two months.

I posted something similar about Betts getting a free pass when he has not been getting it done offensively either. He has been part of our offensive problem.

Red Sox third base prospect Rafael Devers is making a case for a promotion in Double-A, but the team still isn’t ready to summon the 20-year-old to the majors, writes Jason Mastrodonato of the Boston Herald. Devers, Baseball America’s 14th-ranked prospect, has slashed .289/.346/.550 with 14 home runs in 272 plate appearances this year and impressed Red Sox vice president of player development Ben Crockett along the way. “It’s been a really positive year,” Crockett said of Devers. “He’s learned a lot. Playing with older teammates, more experienced guys, it’s a different life experience. I think it’s been great for him. The staff, with manager Carlos Febles, has done a great job being consistent with him. He’s a great worker. He’s passionate and cares about what he’s doing.” Crockett’s glowing review aside, the Red Sox are hesitant to call up a prospect unless they know he’ll play every day, notes Mastrodonato, who suggests they’ll look to acquire a veteran third baseman by the trade deadline. Whether help comes in the form of a veteran or Devers, Boston is in serious need of aid at the hot corner. The club’s third basemen rank last in the majors in wRC+ (a pitiful 44) and fWAR (minus-1.3).

This team does not excite me at all. Outside of Sale and Kimbrel, they really don't get my blood up one little bit. For whatever reason, they are just getting harder and harder for me to watch. I am losing interest and that really is unusual for me. So be it. i like vanilla ice cream so probably I should like these guys too right. They are plain very plain vanilla in my book. The only good thing about them losing is that I don't have to watch that foolish outfield dance.

I agree. I called it "lack of fire", but maybe it's something else.

Unfortunately, for a pitcher, a split fingernail can be debilitating. Let's hope it doesn't linger.

It's on his non throwing hand.

I don't know what it is but it is something. I still think that leadership on the field plays a role. it can't all come from the dugout.

Suppose Devers come out of ST to be our full time 3B. He struggles early. He gets demoted. Is he finished? Is his career over? Is Moncada's career over? No.

So what's the difference between now, September or April 2018 call up? Do you honestly believe another 200 bats will be a big difference maker?

He can't do any better than Marrero? The guy with WORST OPS in the minors last year? I just don't understand the logic.

I agree and earlier pointed out that 20 year old players come into the ML's every year and some are doing quite well. Not much to lose by bringing him up.

If the situation were dire, I think they'd give Devers a try. But because we are tied for first, and none of the other teams in our division seem to be capable of running away with it, there is no need for a rash move. For now, the Sox can afford to let things play out a little longer while they explore the trade market.

From MLB.com.

"The mystery injury that David Price acquired during his start against the Angels on Saturday was revealed to be a cracked fingernail on the middle finger of his left hand."

Agreed, but what can be done immediately to try and change things?

I read that it was on his throwing hand.

I could have sworn it was on his other hand, when I read the first report, but I think you are right.

Still very cheap, even when precise.

the salary is not the issue. it's what we gave up in the trade. way too much for a reliever turned starter with less than a full season of stats under his belt at the time....

I actually expected Pom to be a decent pitcher, but I still hated the trade and still do.

Who did we trade Pomeranz for again? Oh I know - it was the teenager who all the scouts say that someday(???) is going to be Pedro reincarnate. I don't really miss him yet. I'm glad that that Pomeranz has been giving us something.

Nobody "misses" a single A prospect in the here and now, but Espi's trade value and tremendous upside potential staying in our system are not something you really "miss" years ahead of his ETA.

I could be very wrong about Espi. Our system has had far too many flame outs over recent years, but we've never had a pitcher in the system so young and so highly ranked. Yes, the young part makes his value highly speculative, but that doesn't mean the value is not real and substantial, even if in a later, possible, subsequent, larger package trade.

Now, I hear it's on his throwing hand, so the "pansy" label might be too harsh.

i have kids on my 11u team that use crazy glue to fix stuff like this and compete. this "injury" should never have even been brought up to the public, media, anyone.

i stand by my statement that price is a pansy.

Slasher - You got another Espinoza on that 11 and under team that we can draft? (just kidding with you - seriously I don't think I would have pulled the trigger on that one either

Price went 6 innings with 2 earned runs in that start, and I've heard nothing indicating he won't be able to make his next one...so I'm not really sure what the problem is.

i laugh when announcers talk about pitchers who are "gutting it out" because they are playing with an injury to their non-pitching hand. There was a pitcher that had only one-hand.

BTW, you write very well for an 11 year old.;)

And he was fairly decent until he got that Yankees stink on him.

You are just being a little too serious for me. I read the same stuff that everyone else does about these prospects. I see the same stats that everyone else does. I probably don't place the same value in what I read that some do. I tend to be a visual guy. I have to see them first I guess before I hit them with the "next coming " stick. Potential is one thing for sure but at some point you actually have to accomplish something.

His stuff started diminishing while he was with the Yankees. Didn't he pitch a no-no for the Skankees?

lol. many of the kids parents think so.

as for POM trade....i hated it the day it happened but could almost understand the why of it. when we had the opportunity to re-neg on it due to the injury to POM i cannot fathom why DD stood pat....

What I read indicated that it was on his non-throwing hand. Hence, my sarcasm.

Not sure what hand it is on now.

i believe he did pitch a no-no.

it really is incredible that he made it to the MLB level and stuck for awhile. some serious determination he had....

the parents continue to create the issues - good intentions but boy oh boy.
