Lets not get one of our key pitchers hurt on the base paths or hit with a pitched ball. Last night according to the box score, Vazquez was the substitute at 3rd base. I didn't notice it at the time so am not sure. The hitting was good last night, with loud outs when we couldn't get the key hits we needed. Clearly, an extra quality bat with power at the disposal of JF would make him a better manager.

Do you really think that I was being serious?

We think so much of Pablo that we're willing to let Vazquez play 3B? Sure let's do something about 3B when we get down by 10 games.

He was pinch hit for by Chris Young. It had nothing to do with Pablo, but more to do with the matchup against a LHP.

Did he actually play there in the bottom of the 8th/

Yup, I was half hoping he'd get a ball to make a play on. My second hope was a bit more sane though.

Yes, bottom of the 8th.

Wouldn't it have been a better move to put Mookie at second and Young in right ? I understand that Betts sometimes works out in the infield during practice.

The report on Pedroia sounds like he will be out of two or three games with the contusion on his ribs. That will mean that Rutledge will play second and Panda third but that leaves no one to substitute in the infield should a player get injured or ejected. I haven't heard of any temporaty call up. Has anyone got further information?

I don't know any specifics, but there will be some roster moves today. Probably Marrero will be called up.

Farrell said very adamantly that Mookie would not be playing any 2nd base. I guess he was serious about that.

I would have thought playing Vaz at 3B was more adamantly wrong.

I agree. When Farrell pinch hit for Pablo, I was racking my brain trying to figure out who would replace him defensively. I figured Pedroia was feeling good enough to come in for an inning or two.

When I saw Vazquez at 3B, I thought OMG.

I guess Farrell has reasons for not wanting to put Mookie at 2nd, but I don't get choosing Vaz at 3B over that.

I wonder if Vaz played 3B in HS or college.

I can't imagine sticking a player at 3B with no past reps or history there

If Vaz had no history at 3B, then I'm even more in favor of replacing JF at some point in the next 6 months.

In a post game interview on NESN Vasquez said he played 9 games at 3rd in A ball and the 2 more games someplace else unintelligible. When asked if he was any good at 3rd he said "yes".

this 1 million percent. this was a shaky move by JF.

I can imagine the chatter had Vaz got hurt playing 3B.

Wright looks like beer drinker on a bad bowling league team. Lets not compare athleticism of Vaz vs Wright.

Well, that solves the issue for a while

DL for "the flu." That's a phantom DL stint if I've ever seen one.

Looks like a convenient way to bring back Marrero, who wouldn't be eligible to be recalled yet unless replacing a player going on the DL.

I think DD was watching the past few games and thought "I done f***ed up."

This just in: Buck Showalter wants to make sure you know many Orioles are also playing with ear infections, they just don't whine about it like the Red Sox do.
