The latest is that Price is starting it up again. I know that it might not be a popular opinion but a functioning Price could really help us down the stretch. I have very little confidence overall right now in either Porcello (imagine that), E-Rod (hope he proves me wrong) and just a little more confidence in Pomeranz(even though I still him and the trade). Based on what we have seen recently, it would be Sale followed by Fister in the big picking order these days. I think we need another big armed lefty in there.

Yes, we need all the help we can get. Go Price.

The Sox need to stretch Moreland out.

Price is a week away from pitching simulated games. It'll take a few weeks to build back up to 80 pitches assuming no more setbacks.

To be honest with you, I wonder if Price knows he needs TJS and knew he needed it a month or so ago, but knew 2018 was going to be lost regardless and is trying to pitch through it for the betterment of the sox. Maybe he is a good teammate after all? We'll see. If we hear he hits an OR near you a week after the season, then this theory might gain some traction

I think he wanted to suck it up for 17 and 18, opt out and get TJS with his next team.

He can't opt out. If he opted out, the signing team would fail his physical and or make an MRI a requirement prior to offering the contract

Not with that attitude he can't!

They don't have to skip Sale starts, just move him back a day for the rest of the season. That will mean he loses one start.

If we can't win while doing that, we weren't going anywhere anyhow.

The Sox have 3 off days coming up this month. If they simply stay on rotation, Sale will get his extra rest.

The big question going forward is: Does Doug Fister jump to our #3 starter once the playoffs begin??

He's arguably our best pitcher over the last 6 weeks or so. He's become almost automatic in terms of dependability. Amazing.

Who would have thought? Sale is tired now and could use rest but we don't have the luxury of giving him much time off, just an extra day here or there. Pomeranz has been our second best although he also probably needs rest as well. His innings are higher than he has been in the past. Porcello is fading and E-Rod, while good is still not the pitcher he may become in time. Too much nibbling and an inability to go deep in games. If the guys continue the way they have I would say Sale, Fister and Pomeranz would be a good look in the PO's. Lefty, Righty, Lefty. All with a different style and all capable of going 7 or more innings.

Excellent and much needed observation. Sale is key to this rotation. By now so is Fister. After those two Pom, ERod, and Porcello are all inconsistent, with Porcello being the worst and Pom the best. In his good games Pom still needs lots of bullpen help. Porcello can be an innings eater, but too often at a high price. ERod just had a great start when he came out with good stuff, mixing his pitches, keeping it low, and throwing strikes. But will that last?

Right now he is my #2. I trust him way, way more than Pom, ERod, or Porcello.

Yes, Fister is playing leapfrog on the depth chart.

Pomeranz was 3-0 with 2.72 era in July, 4-0 with 2.28 era in Aug. He's #2 in my book, at this point.

Fister has been a Godsend, I like Bulldogs.

With so many days off in the playoffs, the fact that Pom needs pen help is not a major issue.

As of right now, I go...

1. Sale

2. Pom

3. Fister

4. ERod

Cy Porcello goes to long relief.

My plan for David Price:

Shut him down this season.

Let him get completely healthy for 2018.

Hope he has a great season in 2018.

Hope to hell he opts out after 2018.

For me, Fister jumps to our #1 starter for the playoffs.

LOL

If Price needs surgery, he just needs to go ahead and get it done. Having another season like this one where we can't depend on him is not going to cut it.

He is the main reason why I am pretty sure that Dombrowski will be adding a #2/3 starter this offseason.

He even said something along the lines of, "Look at that fastball rise. Don't tell me a fastball can't rise!"

I love Eck. "You don't want to lose your cheese." LOL

The answer to Who Moved My Cheese? = David Price.

To be honest, at this point I think it's fair to question whether we can fully depend on him when healthy.

I feel that if price is healthy, he could really contribute as a reliever during the playoffs.

It has to be tough for porcello not knowing if his two seamer will sink or not every time he throws it. Long relief seems like the perfect place for him during the playoffs.

Hopefully we won't be down 2-1 for game 4 of the playoffs, which should be ERod or Porcello's start.
