My fingers are crossed he makes it through 4 IP and doesn't get embarrassed.

Not sure how he will get 'better'. Obviously if Pom can pitch the way he did the other day that will ease the pain of having to pitch Price. I wonder if will require a surgery with one slight injury.

E Rod is having a break out year, comparable time period to that of one John Lester.

Props to ERod. He really has stepped it up this year.

I'm as pessimistic as they come, and I think Price is going to be a bust this year. If he pitches at all at this rate...

Yeah, that's pretty pessimistic. :(

It may take him a couple of starts to get his feet under him, but I think he will be a positive reinforcement to both our rotation and to our pen.

Speaking of our pen, they are awesome.

Yeah, I'm feeling a tad pessimistic about Price too.

Best case scenario - he comes back pitches out of his skin for this and next season. Opts out to get a longer contract elsewhere. :D

Nice game by Johnson.....I doubt he's this good but he looked to be much better option as a #6. He threw 85 strikes out of 109 pitches.

Then gets sent down immediately after the game. But nice to know we have that 6th starter option.

they could not have gotten more for him. i suspect he will be here for a longer haul soon enough.

Yes, it's almost certain he'll get another chance.

Johnson has overcome a lot of adversity to get where he has gotten. Just a few years ago, he really looked ready to step into the rotation. Good for him! Great control - great pace of play - great curveball -

Confidence surely helps any player, but with the issues BJ has dealt with, I'm guessing even more so.

Great game from the kid.

It's about time we've seen some results from that whole group of drafted starters from the Kelly-Hagadone years to the Ranaudo-Owens years. Only Barnes has given us anything significant since 2005.

I can remember other team's scouts ( during the winter where we signed Pablo-Hanley, Was. signed Scherzer ) thought Johnson was the most complete SP out of that group and valued him most. Perhaps they were right?

Out of who?

Barnes, Ranaudo, Johnson and Owens?

Yes, it's almost certain he'll get another chance.

But more important, he will take another chance away from Kyle Kendrick

I think the important thing is Price today. He was and still is the big part of the plan.

Johnson was great. If he can pitch good and give them a shot in the arm it's all good. I'm more concerned about Price in the long run.

You are absolutely correct. We need Price to pitch like he is capable of pitching. I am very anxious to see his start today. That said, I wouldn't take too much out of this start if he does not pitch that well. It might take him a couple of starts to get to where he needs to be.

I just hope the offense is up to the task today.

I'm not expecting any miracles from Price today. If'm expecting 5 innings and fewer than 5 runs It's going to be up to the offense to pull this one out.

I honestly don't know what to expect from Price today, but I'm guessing he probably won't be as sharp as we'd like him to be.

5 IP, 3 ER, 2 BB's, 4 K's. I'm happy with that for his first outing.

I think he looked damn good. It helps me knowing that we have our real ace in Sale. Price's cutter looked so good and his velocity was fine. If I picture him as an ace minus, he looks real good.

All things considered, Price looked very good. If he can stay healthy and pitch something like the pitcher we thought we were getting, our rotation will be tough to beat.

We really need Price to be close to ace material. I suppose just one from Porcello and Price could be enough, and there's a good chance both can give us near ace level pitching, but I don't see us advancing far into the playoffs without one or both coming through for us.

Of course, ERod is the wild card. I'm hopeful he will put together a full season we've all wished he could give us. I just hate to count on that type of wish.

Porcello has a fluky 2016. He's not a low 3ERA, 20+ win pitcher. He's more suited to the middle of a rotation. Sale is your ace. Price could be a good #2 if he's healthy. ERod is fine as a mid rotation guy as well. You could do worse with Pom as your 5. Right now, if all remain healthy, your rotation should be really good

I expected Porcello to be somewhere between his career norm, which ranks as a decent 2 slot starter or a top 3 slot starter. The chance remained he could pitch like a top 2 or a decent 1 this year.

Price should still have some ace years left in him, assuming he stays healthy.

I see a good chance that...

Sale wins the Cy Young and is the best ace in the AL this year.

Price could pitch like the best #2 in MLB.

Porcello could be the best #3 in MLB.

ERod could be the best #4.

Pom could be a top tier 5th starter.

You cant blow leads after the 6th inning anymore. BP's have become the reason you win or lose in the Majors today. Third of the season is just about done and there is 7 teams that don't have a complete game yet. 3 teams are tied for the lead at 2.

You get a Starter that gets hit hard, I can live with that, happens. You have to hold leads.

Holds should be a Stat, that should be looked at harder. Even over Saves.

Also a Manager, has to be good at not burning out his BP.

Smith coming back, and if we can get Thornburg back, this team will take off.

Not worried about our Starters as much. The 1 run and 2 run games is the ones you have to win.

Our rotation has a chance to be very, very good. ERod may very well move up the ranks too.
