LOL. The vets are quietly leading this team with the kids following their lead. Judge has had a transformation compared to last season. He was timid last yr. This year, he is composed. 4 bombs, 11RBI and a .082IsoPatience is huge. Bird finally broke out yesterday.

This Montgomery kid has been awesome from the start. We drafted him in 2014 out of college. He hit both short season leagues that year. In 2015, he rifled through both A ball teams. Last yr, he dominated AA and AAA. This year, he is pitching like a young Andy Pettitte. I'll take the start for now. It likely wont last, but this is fun.

We need these wins now because the schedule is going to get a lot tougher. After this series, the Yanks play the Pirates, the good Sox, the O's, Jays, Cubs, and Astros. If they get through that stretch above .500 then I will be thoroughly impressed.

But with that said, right now they're doing what good teams do --- beat down lousy teams.

Really love our bullpen. I hope Holder can step up big this year. I think we could be in an interesting place this deadline. Where we could both sell and buy at the same time. I think Clippard and Gardner/Ellsbury could be packaged off. I thought Carter would produce better, but oh well. Can't win 'em all, anyone know the time table for Tyler Austin's return? June?

We get Didi and Sanchez back... this line up will be really fun to watch. I even enjoy the Torreyes at bats.

It's way too early to write off Carter. He probably won't get any significant playing time unless Bird/Holliday get hurt, but if he gets a chance to play consistently I think we'll see his massive power and strike out prowess.

As for Austin, he was put on the 60 day DL so he won't be a factor for awhile.

Severino looks like the guy who lit the world aflame in 2015. That's a good thing. Montgomery looks like a young Pettitte. Guys, this team has some serious potential, albeit unlikely to sustain the current level of production of course

Lol. Severino was awesome last night. 8IP 3H 3ER 10K 0BB. His stuff was absolutely filthy. The three run bomb never should have happened, as Kozma booted an easy DP ball prior to it. As dominant a performance as I've seen from a yankee youngster. If the kids hold down the back half, we're going to be surprisingly good Edited by jacksonianmarch

Oh come on now, man. Tell me with a straight face that you wouldn't tear apart the argument of a Sox fan who said these words about a Sox pitcher. "As dominant a performance as I've seen from a Yankee youngster"? "That three run bomb never should have happened?" You even used the word "bomb". "As dominant as I've seen" does not belong directly after a sentence glossing over a three-run home run. He pitched fine, and will probably continue to pitch well enough this season to be important to the team, but let's be realistic here. Whether it should have happened or not, it did happen. Guys with filthy stuff who are being dominant work around infield errors. He was not filthy or dominant (tonight, at least). He was serviceable.

Sabathia showed something today. He gave up 4 runs in the first 2 innings. It was pretty obvious that he didn't have anything. He gutted out the next 3 innings and left us in position to come back. My hope is the kids see this effort and learn. Mussina said it best. 25% of your starts you have everything working and nobody beats you. 25% of your starts nothing is working. The middle 50% you have something working. What you do with the middle 50% will determine what kind of pitcher you become. Well, CC was in the bottom 25% and ended up giving us a chance to win. My hope is that Girardi realizes this and doesn't try his luck any further. CC has absolutely nothing

The crazy thing is that Greg Bird has done nothing and we're missing an all-star caliber C and SS. Bird's AB's have been much better of late and Didi should be back within a week. It's not realistic to expect Castro and Headley to hit .370, but we can offset the eventual regression to the mean when Didi and Sanchez come back.

Also, Hicks has taken the LF job since Gardy has been garbage. We have depth galore in the upper minors too. While I doubt our starting pitching remains solid, I'm rather impressed by the start. Hopefully it continues

Let me first make it clear that I hate the Yankees.

That said, I am not about to criticize a team that has been built using the Theo Epstein philosophy of building the farm. Do I think the Yankees run this year will continue? No, I don't. But I said before the season that I wouldn't count them out and that I thought they would be competitive this year but fall a little short. So if they do make the playoffs, I would not be shocked.

The good news for Yankees fans is that your future looks really bright.

Theo stole his philosophy from the 90's Yankees juggernaut.

Of course Theo was not the the one to come up with this idea.

But he knows it's the way to go, unlike some other GMs.

This is the bridge and we have put a competitive team out there during the bridge. Once Judge, Sanchez and Bird are in their primes, we'll still have Castro and Didi in their primes plus a crop of kids coming through as well. Remember, for as highly rated as Bird, Judge and Sanchez were, Torres, Frazier and Rutherford are higher. We are likely to stay away from the insane FA fray after the season except for one arm (maybe re-signing Tanaka), but after next yr, watch out. Harper and Machado hit the open market in their early primes and they both might end up in pinstripes around a really good young core

As for today's game, this is the third straight game that our starter didn't have great location. But it's also the third straight game that our starter gutted it out and got out of big jams. Again, I like the moxie of our staff early on. When on, they have shown dominance. When off, they keep us in games. If that continues, we'll be a playoff team

That was on Hicks. He is a supposed lefty masher up there with the sacks packed, 1 out down 1 in the 9th. You have to put the ball in play there. Regardless, I really liked the fight from our rookie. 2ER in 6IP sounds like a good line, but he was without his great command today and still gutted out a serviceable start and kept us in there. Most rookies without command get shelled. I really like this kid

Cashman has been trying to build the farm for a while now, George didn't want it like that.

I have actually always felt that Cashman is a good GM and could have done a better job without George and Levine sticking their noses in his business. Much like Theo and Ben having to deal with Lucchino.

I know he was under ridiculous pressure under the previous owner, but I feel for the payroll they've spent since 2001 and only one title to show for it, he should have been shown the door by now.

That depends on whether he wanted to hand out those enormous contracts or he was pressured into doing so. I don't follow the Yankees closely enough, but I think Levine had a lot to do with ill spent money.

ARods contract was above Cashman as was Rafael Soriano. Lately, he's been given the reigns. What he did last season was downright genius. The fact that we've started well without two all star caliber players helps also. He built a deep farm with a ton of talent left to go
