That's why you trade away potentially good position talent for an ace pitcher under control.

I agree, see my edit.

You just can't help yourself can you?

I get that you live to temper Sox fans expectations but we did just land Chris Effing Sale!!!

What else can you do for fun if you're a Mariners fan? Even if you're a generally level-headed guy like harmony, there has to be some underlying bitterness there.

No hating on anyone that brought us that 2004 title.

I also think he's a HOFer (not everyone does) so I think that makes up for my hate. If you asked him, I'm sure he'd prefer it that way as well.

I guess I am the only one who is not all warm and fuzzy about this deal.

Dombrowski is taking the Sox down the same crappy farm system path that he took the Tigers down.

Yes, our team got better for the short term. It got a lot worse for the long term.

I just can't agree with the 'win now' philosophy.

That said, welcome aboard Sale. I am happy (I think) to have you on my team.

I feel your pain, and I wish we didn't have to give up Moncada and Kopech, but I thought it would be JBJ and/or ERod.

I'm hoping we hold onto Beni, Devers and Groome, but certainly our extended future took a major hit today.

There will be other prospects coming. And your statement is just your opinion. It doesn't merit a "certainly."

Come on. Like 12 prospects in a year. It's a certain as certain can be.

Look, I'm fine with the deals, but they are what they are. We sacrificed some of our future for the 3 year window of Kimbrel (2 more), Sale & Thornburg.

i disagree as to certainty.

First off, hello to everyone. I have not read any post thus far, but I'm going to say this, wow!

DD is making a tremendous job assembling this team thus far.

Great to have you back. We finally have a great bunch of starters.

Thank you compadre... yeah! It seems pretty good on paper. Add Encarnación, and you have a WS team.

I believe we paid a very HEAVY price for Chris Sale.

But he's a top of the rotation, ace level pitcher.

If he brings you a title within the next 3 years, you'd have to say it was worth it.

Even if Moncada turns into the next Hanley Ramirez.

I was looking forward to seeing Moncada and Kopech play for Boston, but you gotta give to get.

Hopefully Sale stays healthy and we win that title because Dombrowski pretty much is going for broke right now.

The thing is that the team is built to win now! Chris Sale was the piece that was missing to win it all. This was a great move. You had to do it. Also, we still have a great core young players who guess what... going to be around in coming years. As I said, get EE and DD can go calm to take some vacations.

Dislike the last 2 years, this is legit WS contender team.

I'm with you 100% that they should get Encarnacion, but with the Moreland signing, I don't think they are willing to spend the money.

Watching DD at press conference, it seems that they are still open to make a couple of extra moves at FA, and open to make more trades. IMO they will land EE. Moreland IMO, will play a backup role.

Oh I hope you're right! Replacing papi with a platoon just seems foolish to me. EE is a perfect fit.

EE specially at Fenway would be the beast, you don't want to face if you are a pitcher. Hopefully DD gets it done.

How could I be bitter about a Mariner club that has made a slew of tactical moves to improve on this year's 86-win team?

Some teams improve by raising the ceiling while others improve more efficiently by raising the floor.

Over the past three seasons the Mariners have experienced neither the highs nor the lows the Red Sox have (although Seattle's cumulative winning record is better than Boston's losing record over that period).

I hope both clubs field competitive teams in 2017.

If we don't win some serious hardware, this trade could look really bad later on.

I respect the don't sell the future crowd, but I'm hoping Price will be Price, Porcello shows some of last years brilliance, Sale is what we bought. And Eddie and the rest can kick it into gear. This could be an amazing and just flat out bad ass 5 man rotation.

Generally you are going to need 8 SP during a season. Assuming Owens is not good for much, we now have 7 by my count, so we still need one more. Elias is a possibility. We gave up a lot for Sale...I have a little bit of angst about that. If we can win a ring or two in the next three years then it was worth it.

Problem now is you have a 13.5m swing man in Buch...not really worth that $$ in that role. Hes a perfect trade candidate. When talking depth, usually its not guys making north of 10m per.

ERod was a suggestion if they want to get some prospects back to replenish the farm. BOth are possible with Buch being the more probable

Of course there is. There was ZERO reason for his post except to show true colors. Someone has a sandy vagina

I doubt that Price will opt out of his contract. I can't see a club doing better than 4 years at $120M, that Sox will have left on his contract. That said, we will have Price, Porcello and Sale for three years. (hard to imagine extending BOTH but that's another topic). E Rod is under team control for five more years. Steven Wright for 4 years and Pomeranz for two more years. This is as good as any rotation in the majors. We will be competitive going into every single game, chance to get a quality start. With Carson Smith coming back, Kelly continuing to improve out of the pen, Barnes, Hembree, Ross Jr, Robbie Scott and one of the starters available for pen duties, our bullpen is beginning to take shape.

DD brings up the fact that he's not under pressure from the owners to stay below the tax limit. It sure would be tempting to tell DD to 'go for it' and sign EE. (but I digress)

Xander, 3 years of team control, Betts and Bradley Jr, 4 years of team control, Beni, 6 more years of team control, Swihart, 5 more years of team control, Vazquez and Leon 4 more years of team control, Pedey 5 years under contract, Hanley, 3 more years under contract, Pablo, possibly 4 more years under contract. Throw in Devers and Travis, we're in pretty good shape.

I know it won't happen but wouldn't it be nice if Henry said f*** It, let's sign EE and Champman, it's only money!!!!!
