Not sure I'd do that now. What if we could unload Buch and his $13.5? Could we structurally work out a deal, backload it in a way for a Bautista or EE that still gets us under cap next season? Is that even a possibility or am I just being retarded?

I think they want a LH corner/DH type player to platoon...unless Joey Bats will take a 1 year make good deal, Im not sure the Sox are looking for another RHH

EE is just too much...

Does DD go after EE FOR @3/75M with an opt out after the first year. Just can't take anybody's word now.. They are all in. Or does he trade one of these pitchers for a hitter. Stay tuned.

That's right. That always confuses me, they go by the entire contract..

Talking about Mitch Moreland now, to be LH DH/1B.... I really like both deals DD has done - solid reliever to add to a really hard-throwing bullpen with Kelly, Smith and Kimbrel and a #1/2 starter.... Wow

The thing is he hasnt spent a lot of $$$... only prospects

I think they really are trying to reset the LT this year if they can. I see him shedding some payroll if the opportunity is there..ie;Buchholz

The Red Sox will pay the entire remaining $31.2 million in obligations to Yoan Moncada, according to Bruce Levine:

Does any of that count against the Red Sox for luxury tax purposes?

No. That was a signing bonus not salary.

I forget that sometimes too...its the AAV

Does that take into account the salaries that come off the payroll for other players that would be due to hit FA in future years?

Ho...leee.....HELL. Well done DD Did not see that coming. Price is high but absolutely fair.

So is Wright now our 4th starter? Sweet.

Sale

Porcello

Price

Wright

Erod/Pomeranz/Buchholz.

That is incredible.

Moonslav is probably having a fit right now though :P

People really think we traded Espinoza for Pomeranz just so we could put him in the bullpen, though? Would not surprise me to see him or Buchholz shipped out now and possibly Wright to the bullpen in the swingman role he was intended to fill last year.

If Pomeranz can pitch in the bullpen and help the team, what's the harm?

Wright is a full ERA run worse in the bullpen than he is in the rotation.

Pomeranz meanwhile is very used to a swingman role and ought to be fine there.

If you have to move one of Wright and Pomeranz to the pen, you move Pomeranz

DD is a wheeler dealer. He doesn't go for some half baked player. He goes for and gets the top stud. Benny Boy never pulls the trigger on a trade like this... never.

I'm sorry but you traded a guy who was considered by many to be the most talented prospect in all of baseball for Pomeranz. If all he is, is a reliever then I hate that trade even more. You traded for Pomeranz because you thought he was a young stud coming into his own. If that's what you believe, then you write off his second half performance on fatigue and stick him back in the rotation with the hopes that a full season of starting has built up some stamina in his arm. I like what Wright did, but he didn't exactly impress down the stretch and Pomeranz was pretty darn good the first half too.

Not that I disagree with the notion that NOW is the time the Sox should be going for it so in that light this is a great trade. But Benny boy was the guy who gave up one year of Yoenis Cespedes to sign Rick Porcello to a very team friendly contract.

I understand that's a hindsight decision, but his motives were that he was buying low on Rick....and was BENNY BOY right.

He's here - how he got here doesn't matter ... use him in the way that will help the most

I've let the people who liked the Pomeranz deal more than I did talk me into believing in Pomeranz's upside as a starter, so yeah, moving him back to the pen would be a bit of a letdown. Of course you do it if it's what's best for the team, but it certainly won't make the original trade look any better.

I give credit to both BC and DD and I think I'm justified in doing so. I don't subscribe to the whole absolutist thing.

I doubt DD makes the deal, if he knew he'd be landing Sale a few months later.

How dare you attack Benni Boy!

DD has shredded our farm system. My hands will wear out soon from all the wringing!

Oh Heavens to Betsey what will I do?

DD just stated that the rotation is in no particular order,

Price

Porcello

Sale

ERod

Pom

He also talked about all the back-up starters they had in

Buch, Wright, Owens, Elias, and Johnson.

We will just hav to watch some really good players play winning baseball, but the future is shot to hell. LOL!

I think Ben was building up for a big signing like Price and a mega prospect deal, but we'll never know for sure.

He could have just kept Lester.

Clearly DD is an idiot that doesn't realize Pomeranz should be in the pen!

Conclusive evidence that he is a career failure at building pens!!!!!:P

That's funny. Not too accurate, but definitely funny. :)

We could use ERod and another player to get back a couple more prospects to replenish the system. We have too many MLB starters now. And Four LHP...Buch could be salary relief now.

More moves to come

Generally you are going to need 8 SP during a season. Assuming Owens is not good for much, we now have 7 by my count, so we still need one more. Elias is a possibility. We gave up a lot for Sale...I have a little bit of angst about that. If we can win a ring or two in the next three years then it was worth it.

None of Dombrowski's moves would have been possible if not for Cherington.

Thank you Ben.
