Yup...Great "cans," but if I'm Verlander, I'm hiding her electronics for a while. If he supports any of it, I don't want any part of the guy in a Sox uniform.

Anything short of his own "Tweet" saying something like "Congratulations on my ex-teammate for deservedly winning the AL Cy Young Award," and he might be a douche.

Leaving Verlander off your top 5 picks is another example of why I don't put much stock into any of these awards.

I'm glad he won it. It was close between the three top guys.

I'm not trying to pat myself on the back here, because Lord knows I've been wrong a lot over the past few years, but one thing I got right was praising the extension we gave Porcello and then sticking with my support through 2015's lack luster season.

Keep it up Rick!!!!

Terrific news. As I noted, while you could certainly argue for others - Porcello was absolutely a worthy choice in a pretty crowded field.

You had it nailed....and this is why I'm opposed to trading E Rod. We finally get a starting pitcher with some upside (yeah I know he came via a trade but he seems like one of our own ) and he's in almost every trade discussion.

Could have been any of the top three, really. Great for Rick...and thank you, Ben Cherington. ;)

Have we ever had Sox players win the Cy Young and MVP (or even win one and finish runner-up for the other) in the same year?

Would all of the rest of you who were in favor of the Porcello extension please stand up here. I was not one of them but there quite a few others.

Porcello - Verlander - Scherzer - Thank you Dave Dombrowski.

To me, it was all about his age and projected improvement. All of Porcello's contract years are within his prime years. You just don't see that very often these days.

Yup, in spite of his disappointing first season, Porcello has demonstrated why the extension was a good move by Cherrington.

I'm still not convinced Porcello wasn't injured for a good part of 2015.

He was very good after coming off the DL.

Good point. After DL:

57.1 IP

20 ER

58 H

11 BB

57 K

3.14 ERA (almost identical to 2016)

1.20 WHIP

Roger Clemens 1986 for the former, Pedro 1999 for the latter

Lol, I was trying to think of two different players doing it (as it looks like Porcello and Betts likely will), so I missed the obvious. Nice catch.

The year of the Impossible Dream, 1967:

Cy Young - Jim Lonborg

MVP - Yaz in his triple crown year

To add on, Reggie Smith was second in the Rookie of the Year voting that season (albeit a very distant second to Rod Carew).

Shame on Kate. It's not like Justin was a clear cut winner or had stats far better than the other top candidates.

She has created controversy and taken the spotlight away from our boy Porcello.

Way to be a gracious loser, Kate.

Ben says you're welcome, as he has said so many times this year.

Send the thank you card to Toronto.

Ben's legacy in Boston has improved a bit.

The Porcello trade and extension has helped.

The big Dodger trade that helped us dump oodles of dead contract cost us AGon, but has anybody noticed how AGon has done after the trade?

OPS by club:

.888 SDP

.895 BOS

.807 LAD

Gonzalez has continued to be a good player. He was not the anchor bat the Nation was looking for - and his end in SD portended. The shoulder injury sapped a lot of that - and as it turned out, a lot of his OBP was driven by being the only good hitter in a terrible lineup in SD. But he is still above average.

While Agon was productive here, the Sox were supposedly going to move him that off-season regardless of the Dodger trade.
