The Guardians lost Carrasco and Salazar, two of MLB top 40 pitchers. Now, they lose Bauer, and yet they still win.

What a bullpen they have!

I think the Guardians just handed the Cubs their first World Series in more than a century. They should be able to steal 1 of the next 4 games but no way the bullpen can keep this up for a full series.

That power hitting BJ lineup has managed only 3 runs in 3 games. Run production in the playoffs is a different animal. Guys like EE may help get you there but are just another weak bat in the playoffs.

Their pen is awfully deep, but your point is well taken.

Is the team good enough to stand pat and repeat? Probably

That will give us another year to develop our young players in the minors. Swihart, Kopech, Groome, Moncada, Devers, Johnson, Owens, Dalbec, etc

If we don't sign EE, we should have ample funds to acquire some bullpen help.

$30-40M is enough for 2 top RPers and a decent short term 3B option.

It's enough to get Turner and Jansen or Jansen and Chapman. Neither are likely, but the point is, there's enough money for 2 big names.

Xander and Bradley would be traded if they were playing for Tampa...

Don't the Cubs have to get there first?

Yeah, I had the Dodgers totally underestimated, mea culpa

Just goes to show you that roster construction and best team on paper don't always translate into wins.

It's not over, of course, but man o man, isn't Rich Hill amAAAAZing!

Why don't we ever get guys like that? :D

The Cubbies now need to win three out of four against the Dodgers. That's a big order. Not impossible, but the odds-makers would be against it.

That man with that nasty curveball. Who's he. lol

The old man is called Beverly Hill out there. If he does what he did last night that name might stick.

Just an observation here....

One of the things that amazes me is how quickly the complexion of a series can change depending on one win.

Going into Tuesday night's game the Cubs and Dodgers where tied at one game apiece. The loser of that game (the Cubs) now has to win three of four while the winner (the Dodgers) only have to gain a split over four games. Somehow a split seems to be a lot more do-able than winning three of four, and that mindset revolves around that one win.

The thing is LA has a rested Kershaw and Hill for games 6 and 7. If Roberts wants to give the extra day rest out. IMO . That win on Sunday Night was like when Lackey beat Verlander in Game 3 1-0 back in 2013. Napoli went deep like AGONE.

I think that's where I was going with my post. The pressure is now all on the Cubs to win the next game - the simply CANNOT allow themselves to get into the position where they need to sweep three games from the Dodgers with the Dodger's pitching staff being what it is.

IMO the Jays have a better chance of coming back from 3-1 than do the Cubs.

I've always had a soft spot for the poor Cubs and their fans, and I never have liked the Dodgers, but I'm finding myself pulling for them now.

I guess I'm always a sucker for the underdog.

The damn Cubs have always been the underdog, and now they've gone and made themselves the favorite by kicking ass this year.

I thought Petrocelli played 3rd base for the Sox. A friend of mine played on the same team with him in the minors and he remembers him as a 3rd baseman.

774 games at SS

727 games at 3b

Sry wrong thread, I meant to post that in another thread but I was multi-tabbing.

Yes Petrocelli played SS for the Red Sox. He was actually a very good bat-first SS. He moved over to make room for a glove guy, Luis Aparicio.

Rico hit 40 HRs as a SS back in '69. (97 in 3 years from '69-'71, but in 1971, he was switched to 3B)

I loved Luis. That was the year before I became a Sox fan. That winter, the Sox traded for my boyhood hero, Tommy Harper, and I switched allegiances.

1967 - last out of regular season - pop fly caught by Rico our shortstop

Aparichio was just a great baseball player. All s/stops should be glove first.

Luis Aparichio and Nellie Fox - didn't get much better than those two.
