He's 28. That's his prime. That's Lester's age in 2012. He has never put in a full season.

The amount of people slobbering over Pom amazes me.

3 slobberers maybe? Who was that 15 year old kid we traded away for him anyway? By the time he graduates to AAA, most of us slobberers will have already fallen over over the cliff!

I don't think anyone is slobbering over him, but if healthy should be very solid and right now he seems healthy.

No no Fisk - you just don't get! lol If you don't call this kid some crazy assed demeaning name it puts you in the slobbering society along with me and maybe one other person. If you aren't careful, people will start accusing you of thinking Hernandez should make the 25 man too.

If you want to hitch your wagon to a guy who has never pitched a full year in the rotation, go for it. Seems like a fool's errand to me.

He finally looks healthy because he pitched two good innings! Laughable.

And Price is still not on a throwing program. Everyone else on here said he'd be fine because of his magical elbow.

When it's midseason and you guys are no longer posting, I'll try to not be too smug.

Seriously? You trying to be serious? Come on. Fool's errand? When the hell did he pitch 2 good innings? I'll probably still be posting a little even if Hernandez doesn't make the team and if Pomeranz is on the dl. If those two things happen, I still think that we will be ok. Seriously! - I don't see his contributions be they positive or the negative being anything of great consequence. Nothing worth getting too upset about anyway.

I think your giant red beard may be altering your personality.

I don't think anyone is saying that Pom is going to be an ace, just that he will be a solid piece of our rotation, IF HEALTHY. I agree that health might be a big issue with him, and Farrell sounds like they need to 'manage' his innings. That said, I think we will be pleasantly surprised by Pom this year.

When it's midseason, and I'm getting the Playoff Party Bus warmed up, I'll save you a seat.

This is for my friend CP.

The Red Sox will let the battle for the backup catching spot play out through the final days of camp, but Christian Vazquez appears to have the inside track with Blake Swihart likely to be optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket.

"I'll be honest with you -- part of this is the individual play and the overall organizational depth," said Red Sox manager John Farrell. "We're not going to deny that. That's important. We like both guys -- I know that. We like all our catchers."

Pom is a wild card. I think people hate the trade because of what you gave up. He's one season as a starter with a 1.0+ WAR and that was last season which finished with injury. He's got the stuff to be effective. The question is, can he repeat the delivery and can he stay healthy

Its that damn depth thing coming back to bite me again.

I would like the 25 man roster to reflect the best available depth and hope that as the season progresses, trades and moves will be made to allow Hernandez, Swihart and Selsky to be on that roster. Having those three plus Young as potential pinch hitters would make the team more dangerous and we could rest any player immersed in a slump. Of course that means moving some of last years stalwarts, but we should be thinking about putting the best guys forward. Don't see Travis getting the nod unless we have injury issues.

I think that eventually - maybe not even until next year - Travis will get his chance. Once he comes up, I think that he will stay and be a productive hitter for quite some time.

As serious as Pom's injury history.

Rather than eating crow, you ought to shave your massive beard instead. If you haven't already caved by then.

IMO Price is the key --considering his healthy condition. If Price give us for once and for all ace numbers this year, we are serious WS contenders; otherwise, we are just another good team trying to make the POs.

I totally disagree.

Even without Price, we have a top 3 AL rotation, a top 1-3 offense, a much improved defense and a top 10-12 pen.

That should be a pretty definite playoff team and top 2 AL contender.

Sale

Porcello

ERod

Wright

Pom

is a very nice rotation.

Wrap that crow in bacon. You will be able to choke it down. Everything is better wrapped in bacon.

Good evening Moon,

I've been gone for a little while but I see you are true to form. Almost 7000 posts in less than - what - a year? The good wife asked about how the posting is going, because over the last year she has found a cause and interest on line as well. (Big Cat Rescue in Tampa, FL)

As usual, you are level headed about your approach to the upcoming season. Price would be a huge loss if ge is out the whole season but I see him coming back in May and being that extra kick that will not only lift the Red Sox higher but terrify the rest of the league. There are some opponents who are snickering at the Sox bad luck after landing Sale, but I don't see it that way. With the delightful discovery/recovery of Kyle Kendrick adding depth to the healthy Wright and recovering Pomeranz I think the rotation looks startlingly strong.

Olmos in the pen has also been a nice development.

I may even take back my hoodoo curse on Panda!

Welcome back. Good to hear from you.

I love our chances this year. Of course, I like them better with Price, but I like Sale much better than Price, and I thought we had a great chance this year, even before the Sale trade.

All we can ask for is a great chance, then sit back and enjoy the ride and hope the magic happens another time.
