Chris freakin Sale was the one good move DD has made for this team. but every single one of us would have made that trade for Sale. and good might be an understatement. but IMO it still doesnt makeup for the disaster that was the Pom trade. that one will continue to hurt for years.

summary: DD = bad

I am staring at the cliff in 2021!!

so you are ok trading a stud prospect for a broken pitcher that is really a reliever but sold as a starter who had to be shutdown after we got him and pitched to a tune of 4.6 ERA and a solid 4.91 / 1.64 whip in his postseason chance. got it.

that cliff came last year as far as that trade is concerned. it sucked the second it happened. and it sucked worse the second pom stepped on a mound for us.

but here is some sand for you to bury your head in.......................

RE: Starters

Cubs, Giants and Mets are all better. Guardians are probably pretty similar with Price in. With Price out, the Jays rotation may be the best in the division. Dodgers and Nats both have great high end talent too.

I don't think the Giants have a better rotation at all like there top 2 starters would pass on the rest.

Mets top 4 starters all big injury risks. Would be more confident with Price and Pom, then Harvey.

Indian have a very good top 3 Salazar and Carrasco are as big question marks as Price and Pom.

Dodgers have Kershaw and a lot of depth, but there whole pitching staff is filled with question marks.

Basically the Sox are probably top 5, where they finish will depend on injuries with all these staffs. Much better getting the injuries out of the way now.

I think we will need another SP even with Kendrick. I am not going to depend on the likes of Owens and Johnson to supply even a single quality start.

I would wait to see how Price and Pom play out. Fister to me is not an answer.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: Chris Sale is a poison. He will cost this team the World Series. They'll still get to the playoffs, maybe even make the World Series. But he's proven himself to be a shithole of a teammate, and at some point, that's going to cost this team. From the start, I've hated him. I was appalled when the news of the trade broke.

He's known as a very good teammate I've seen you say this before, have no idea where your getting this from. You can hate the trade for the prospects given up, but not as a pitcher or teammate.

This from MLBTR....

Guardians righty Carlos Carrasco could begin the year in extended spring training as he looks to build up his arm strength after a bout with elbow soreness, writes Terry Pluto of cleveland.com. The Guardians have two off days in the first two weeks of the season, which would enable them to be patient with Carrasco and not have to use five starters immediately.

Yes not surprised. Carrasco and Salazar don't exactly have healthy histories.

I don't know about that. I watched him once this spring and noticed he pitches quickly and throws strikes, which means he will never fit in with this pitching staff.

I'm sorry....but why in the hell would you keep a $13.5M, 7th starter? I just don't get it.

I'm glad all of you are not running the Sox.

I too am glad that I'm not running the Sox.

Buch is capable of being much, much better than a 7th starter.

I probably would not have made the trade for Sale. IMO, it was a move that was not necessary. He's a nice luxury, but he wasn't necessary.

I think he'll end up being a solid starter for us, provided he's healthy.

I'm glad to see somebody else feeling this way. There have been some nasty things said here about a kid who may very well turn out to be a good get for this team.

I think the question with him will be whether he is truly healthy or not. He was not fully healthy when he pitched for us the 2nd half of last season. If he's fully healthy, I think he will be a pleasant surprise.

I like Pom Pom. I look forward to watching the people whining about him eat crow.

Pom says for you to become a Padre fan, or maybe Phillies fan for all you naysayers.

DUNEDIN, Fla. -- Drew Pomeranz said he felt something click on the mound during his third spring training appearance on Friday and expects to be ready to pitch out of the Red Sox rotation when the regular season begins.

The lefty was struggling in the first two innings, when he allowed three runs on five hits against the Blue Jays, but said everything changed for him between the second and third inning.

“From the last start to this one I kind of finally figured out my mechanics, what I need to work on,” said Pomeranz, who exited early from his previous start due to triceps tightness. “The first couple innings today I felt better, more like myself, but something was a little off. I just wasn’t getting off my back side at all. Everything else was good position, I just couldn’t get off my backside. Then the warm-ups before the third inning, it clicked. I was able to repeat everything and it was just a different game out there.

“I was out there shaking my head like, ‘You got to be (joking) me.’ That how it always happens. One pitch.”

Pomeranz finished the third and fourth inning without allowing another hit. He then threw 15 pitches in the bullpen.

"As long as there are no setbacks in this time, he should be on time (to start the year),” manager John Farrell said before the game. “That’s how we're feeling.”

ALL HE NEEDED WAS ONE PITCH TO GET BACK TO THE ALL STAR LEVEL....IMAGINE THAT!

IMO Price is the key --considering his healthy condition. If Price give us for once and for all ace numbers this year, we are serious WS contenders; otherwise, we are just another good team trying to make the POs.

We may need Pom to come through, if Price doesn't recover.

If Pom "comes through", he probably moves up the food chain. I can't believe how many people here already have him labelled as a stiff or loser. Yes - I know - you hated the trade from day one. If Pomeranz regains his health, he will continue to be a young talented pitcher.

He's 28. That's his prime. That's Lester's age in 2012. He has never put in a full season.

The amount of people slobbering over Pom amazes me.

I don't think anyone is slobbering over him, but if healthy should be very solid and right now he seems healthy.
