We can tell him he's closing inning one, inning two, so forth until his arm falls off. He may not notice he's pitched every inning. Nah, he's probably smarter than that.

I think Porcello would have gotten it done a lot quicker last night but I respect them taking him out w his pitch count

Porcello was at 110 pitches last night. No way he was going back out there.

But, I agree, it would've been much easier to watch if he had.

Would he have put one in Chase's earhole that inning?

1) I'm not going to judge Kimbrel based on a small sample size or his adjustment period upon returning from his injury.

2) I think he still projects to be one of the best closers in MLB over the next 2.3 years.

3) I still think it was stupid to trade top prospects for any closer, let alone one making near FA money.

I'm not gloating. I'm not saying I was right based on Kimbrel's performance. I'm just saying the closer position is too fickle. The innings are very important, but it's still only 45-65 IP a season.

You don't trade top prospects for a player making FA money- period. Then, if you do, it better be a SP'er or stud everyday player--not a closer!

I hope he turns it around, because I don't trust Ziegler, Taz or anyone else long term.

Any chance Kimbrel could be converted to a starting pitcher?

Super idea, but I was wondering whether he could be converted into a thirdbaseman or firstbaseman. I mean, the bullpen is already full up with great arms. Isn't it already rated the 2d best bullpen in MLB? Surely we can put Kimbrel to better use than closer, which could be handled by at least 3 or 4 other guys we have. Meanwhile, Shaw isn't hitting the lefties too well, and HanRam could be our next DH.

I suspect the Braves would have done it gratefully if there was. Reliever are just very very volatile species - it's what makes any large-ish trade for them mildly cringeworthy.

Price and Kimbrel are doing their best to prove that some guys don't fare as well under the bright lights...

Like Josh Beckett and John Lackey.

Actually, Beckett had one great year in Boston, 2007, when we won the WS and he was like 2d in the Cy Young voting. Lackey also had a very good year in 2013, after Tommy John, when the Sox again won the WS and Lackey shut out the Tigers in I think game 3 of the ALCS--against Verlander.

I do agree, however, that Boston is a tough fan base.
