I can't believe my life has been reduced to defending a Yankees fan against internet comments.

On the surface this comment is pretty funny.

However, you have been correct in doing so. There is no shame in doing what is right.

You'll have to forgive him.

4yr olds are known to throw tantrums.

Don't do that. You've got some sympathy because of the antics of the guys arguing (badly) against you, don't throw that way by making cheap shots.

I still maintain that the reasonable standard for when they should be a "cloud" over a player ought to be at least 2 failed tests, especially in the absence of any other direct evidence of PED abuse. One might be a false positive or else an isolated mistake. two suggests a pattern.

I took the side of the baseball debate.[/b]

Since one poster here got banned for questioning the moderation I recognize that it may happen to me, but ... here goes.

You're absolutely right. You took the side of the baseball debate and as a moderator you should not take sides. It's the function of the moderator to enforce the rules of the forum.

Up until now the "rules" here have been strictly enforced - a minimum of new threads and threads should remain on topic. Some threads have been renamed, some merged with others, and some posters have been politely reminded about staying 'on topic'. It was even mentioned back on Page 1 that this thread should have been merged into the "Offense" thread.

The topic of this thread was the positive accomplishments of certain Red Sox players and it has been derailed and turned into a referendum on Papi's chances of getting into the hall, which has devolved into a referendum on Ortiz's guilt or innocence.

Insulting posts like "Umm, do you know how to use google?", "If you don't see the PED cloud associated with Ortiz you are either blind or a homer. Maybe both.", "Nobody is trolling, nitwit", "Again, not trolling, clown", "Again, do you not know how to use google?", and "I would suggest you take a course in reading comprehension as it is something that you obviously do not have a firm grasp on at this time.", all of which appeared IN THIS THREAD are not conducive to a constructive debate. - and yet they're allowed to continue.

This is trolling 101. Find hot buttons and push them, deflect the conversation to something slightly off-topic and continue to insult and inflame posters all the while saying "I'm not a troll". Ya gotta admit, he's good at it!

And if I get banned by calling him on it he will laugh up his sleeve believing that he's smarter than the moderator.

Good god, I thought I was indifferent to logic? Is that whole speil really something you couldn't have said in PM? Especially since you already know that YOTN is getting a little agitated about the conduct of the BDC imports in this thread? YOTN is one of the most laid back chill cool dudes I've ever seen moderate a forum. If he seems angry to you, it's because you guys are doing a terrific job of not listening to his guidelines about how he'd like this forum to be.

You guys are like the Mexican illegals who took over the Southwest, you want everything to be in your language How about instead of trying to turn this place into BDC you learn the culture on THIS forum a little better? You liked us good enough to come here, how about you decide to like us well enough to fit in here?

you guys just don't need to stress about Babe as much as you are. If he's that bad, he'll out himself. The solution to guys like that isn't to get the torches and pitch forks, it's to give them the rope they need to hang themselves.

And we here have been swatting Yankee contribs in this board who try their hand at trolling for a very long time. We don't have a problem with these guys. If you do, take it off board, mmk?

You are correct, my apologies.

Unfortunately, everyone will have there own 'standard' for the cloud. But the only ones that will eventually matter are those of the voters themselves. And for that we will have to wait and see.

As an FYI, McGwire is no longer on HOF ballots so he probably will never get in.

My ballot for this year would be:

Bonds

Clemens

Bagwell

Raines

Schilling

Mussina

Ivan Rodriguez

Manny Ramirez

Vlad Guerrero

Larry Walker

I believe all of those guys are more deserving than Sosa and I would put Edgar Martinez and Gary Sheffield in ahead of Sosa too. Jim Edmonds had a higher career WAR than Sosa and he was off the ballot after his first year of eligibility. I doubt Sosa ever gets in as he only had 7% of the ballot last year.

Pity Evans is done as a candidate. He's more deserving than a lot of those guys, dude was way ahead of his time as a player, especially as a hitter.

The douchey racist vibe really drives the point home.

No one got banned for questioning the moderator. Someone got banned for ignoring the moderator's request to keep things on topic and then sending the moderator harassing PMs including one calling him a "pussy".

My job as a moderator is to ensure the rules are being followed, but that does not mean I cannot take sides. I can take sides in a debate about which player is better, which team has a better chance of winning, or which breakfast cereal is the best (Cap'n Crunch, for the record). And I can certainly take sides in this stupid, petty argument when one side is "you are wrong, stop doing what you are doing." That is why I'm here.

I have already asked TBSB not to respond like that to the posts that were made, and since I have asked he has toned it down. And on top of that, he was responding not to legitimate, constructive comments, but to people calling him a troll for stating his opinion. Not one of his insulting posts spontaneously emerged from vacuum, they were defensive responses to personal attacks. Yes, they were wrong, but I acknowledged that and asked him to stop along with you guys.

The topic of this thread was Red Sox Records, and I say for the fifteenth time or so, Ortiz's HOF case is a great topic for that discussion. That is how discussions work. They flow from one related topic to another. The only people who were inflamed by TBSB's posts were people who let themselves be inflamed instead of responding normally to a baseball-related post, all because of the perceived unreasonability of things that happened on another site.

I am done talking about this. I am done constantly posting the same replies, just differently worded, to the same complaints. This is my final word on the subject:

Stop talking about TBSB. Keep talking about the topic, but stop talking about him. Stop using your experience with previous moderators as some kind of yardstick with which to measure me. I'm not banning people for questioning me, I ban people when they are *******s. Talk about David Ortiz and the PED issue. Talk about JBJs hitting streak. Talk about Pedroia's record for shortest Red Sox player for all I care. But the discussion of whether or not TBSB was trolling is over. It's done. You spent far more time arguing your side of that debate than any of you did arguing the baseball-related implications of his opinion, and that is dumb. So it's done.

you guys are a bit oversensitive perhaps? I'm talking about a subset determined by behavior not race. the Mexican illegal population is just the most numerous example of a group that comes here en masse and isn't all that interested in truly integrating. if you come to a new place and intend to stay there, you should learn how that place does its business and be prepared to follow suit as much as you can. If you can't, you probably won't last very long. It's a lesson I learned the hard way several times vis-a-vis online communities.

Bagwell and Raines are almost certain to get in in 2017; both were right at 70% last time. Trevor Hoffman is another fair bet (he was at 67% in his first year on the ballot).

IRod is the most likely among the first year eligibles. 4 would be a large class, so Vladi and Schilling may have to wait another year or 2.

Dojji was correct, and thank you for acknowledging that. Given the situation in this thread, I'd like to ask you to simply ignore any of the posts questioning your reasons for posting and respond only to the ones about the topic. Hopefully that will get things back on track. And try not to respond to personal attacks with ones of your own in the future. The best way to defuse accusations of trolling is to ignore the people who accuse you of it.

There's a few guys that history has missed. Hope Papi isn't one of them down the road.

Actually you need to be more specific, as in CrunchBerries!

Captain Crunch sucks, and so do you. Raisin Bran all the way.

I've been enjoying Wheaties lately. If I could only have one cereal before I died though: Chocolate Toast Crunch.
