Well his velocity was at 92-94 last night. Hes just not commanding his pitches. The cargo hr was a good hit...That one was out of the zone and in the dirt. He went and got it...the other two, as like most of them this year, left the yahd. Always seems to have runners on too..

He knows hes out of the rotation , at least for his next start. I imagine they will have to get somewhat creative because hes not hurt. Hes said a number of times its not physical, so a DL stint would be an obvious lie which isnt uncommon. He's out of options and he would waste a spot in the pen...

He needs to be traded if Erod is better, or figure out a way to get him to the DL and a few rehab starts...

I doubt his option is picked up for next year. Not sure why it would be at this point.

He looks and sounds defeated. I never like to see any ballplayer like that. Hope he can rebound, whether with the Sox or not, and have a decent backend of his career.

Did he top out at 94? I saw him hit 92 at the most, but they don't leave MPH on screen too long so i guess could've missed it if he did. Maybe Buch can figure things out in long relief role? I've been so disappointed not having ERod in the rotation, so to get him back is exciting.

Pretty sure that's out already

:(

That makes my heart hurt... Might as well just make a new Morrowind character.

Why walk when you can ride?

He hit 93 and 94 after the 2nd and 3rd hr...im guessing he was pissed off because he was around 92 most of the night. Point being was its not an arm isse...

Either way bro, Clay has lost his spot in the rotation it would seem...Hopefully Erod and Kelly can give thsi rotation a lift so we dnt have to lose a bunch of valuable prospects for an overpriced deadline deal...

I don't see why we couldn't hypothetically trade cost-controllable players for cost-controllable player(s) in return. One of ERod/Kelly performing like #3a-#2b sure would help. Need consistency, no melt downs. A lot still needs answering before I dub this a playoff caliber rotation.

Not a WS caliber rotation IMO. Not Yet anyway.

I think it will be one way or another. Whether its done Internally or externally.

I think if they shot him out of a circus cannon, he might just get the distance.

Depends on the exit velocity the cannon generates.

What are the chances that Buchholz would clear waivers?

He's not injured so someone ( probably several teams ) would grab him.

It's another no-brainer.

So 1/3 of the season has gone by, we're getting into the warmer weather, and Steven Wright is somehow still our best SP. If you look at the guy on paper, not only do most of his numbers look very impressive, but at lot of them look like normal healthy progression -- HR/9 is an obvious fluke, but he's basically just striking out a few more guys than he did last year.

Anyone starting to feel like Wright may just finish the season more or less like this, finish with an ERA in the low 3's and help carry the team into the playoffs? We're running out of SSS excuse with the guy.

Well this ought to be interesting...a guy who starts slow as a long reliever...

We can only pray that the starters can go at least 5-6 IP

Slow start last night you think? He knows he hasn't pitched well and that he needs to hike em hike and get it done. I don't think he is quite done yet.

Not at all. Rosenthal clarified that the deal was pending between Miley and Buchholz. My opinion of Buchholz is not as biased as yours clearly. My point isn't that they should have been rid of Buchholz, but rather further fortified the rotation. The guys with pitchforks whenever someone mentions that he has sucked (and he has) are you and Slash. I mean, he could turn it around at any point, but he's been terrible. Just a little bit of objectivity in accepting criticism towards Red Sox players makes discussion a lot more enjoyable.

1. Nowhere did Rosenthal or anyone else say that the Sox gave the Mariners a choice between Miley and Buchholz. My issue here is with you saying things like "if the Mariners wanted Clay, he would be gone". That statement has no merit. It might be true, but it might also be the case where the Mariners wanted Buchholz and the Sox said no.

2. In terms of defending Buchholz' pitching, I have never stated or even suggested that he wasn't having a bad season. In fact, I recently stated that he should be the odd man out when Rodriguez comes back. I merely said that while his previous outing was not good, it was not as terrible as some of you are making it out to be, which is the truth.

3. Please don't talk to me about my ability to be objective, which is akin to the whole 'you're a homer' attack. You're better than that.

Clay seems to have a good couple of innings in him. Before the walls are breached or after. If we could somehow dictate WHEN it was gonna happen we could certainly use him as a sorta long reliever (2 innings.....)

Obviously, there is something not right when he is pitching out of the stretch, whether it be mental or physical. It seems that as soon as he gets a baserunner on, he loses it.

Not a homer, a "Defender of Buchholz",although by now, I'm sure you're as ready to drive him to Pawtucket as the rest of us. And how can you not see that the two pitchers of interest were Miley or Buchholz? That's just arguing for the sake of arguing.

Question.......any chance that with Buchholz his speed and stuff has diminished to the point that a small dislocation of the pitch in the strike zone has a good chance to be hit out by a major league hitter? In which case there is little hope for him to improve? Just curious.

Not a "Defender of Buchholz". A defender of:

1. The decision to pick up his option, which you agree with.

2. His 2nd to last outing, which was not as bad as you made it out to be.

On the topic of who is being more biased about whether another team wanted Buchholz or not, we'll just have to disagree.

I've been wondering if there is any chance that Buchholz is tipping his pitches when he's pitching from the stretch?
