"If I get bored," Ortiz said, "I'll just call the Red Sox and ask them to activate me again."

What a line, eh? I know Papi is just talking right now...

"And Ortiz didn't miss. Against the Yankees, he rarely does.

"I felt like I've done that a lot to lefties where I'm going for a first-pitch strike, trying to use that outside corner," Betances said. "I’ve faced him a lot and a lot of times he's taken it. But this time he had a good approach. For him to hit that ball the way he did, he's been great his whole career. All I can do is tip my cap to him."

Betances is in good company, becoming the 35th Yankees pitcher who has allowed an Ortiz home run. Ortiz has hit 48 regular-season homers against the Yankees, 14 of which have given the Red Sox a lead.

"That's why they don't pitch to me late in the game much," Ortiz said. "Those games between us and the Yankees, everybody is on their toes. It's enjoyable. Next year I'm going to be a fan, so I'm probably going to feel the same way watching the game."

And passing the torch to Bradley and the rest of the young Red Sox, who are learning to come through in the clutch by watching the master.

"If I get bored," Ortiz said, "I'll just call the Red Sox and ask them to activate me again."

Only in the Yankees' worst nightmares"

If you are going to make a new post, make the title actually mean something. Tell us what the post is about. Don't put nonsense like "If I get Bored."

And now wait for Doji to tell me I'm wrong again...

Title should have been "Will Ortiz Play After 2016??" Otherwise, it's just shitposting.

get bored Big Papi. Get really really bored.

I agree on the title but feel it's a nitpick. Actually, all it really needed to be was in quote marks, that way we'd at least know it was someone from the team saying that not just you saying some random crap.

MVP is kinda like that. Think of MVP as forum quality control. Because he does. he's got a lot of knowledge though, so a bit of grouchiness is tolerated.

It's not grouchiness. There's only one moderator here and he's not on all the time, so some self-policing is needed. Avoiding forum clutter has always been a big thing to a lot of people around here. He could have added some tact to the post though, on that we agree.

SinceYaz is one of the nicest Sox fans you will ever meet. BDC emigrants need a little training, that's all. Over there some people would start 3 threads a day and it was considered normal behavior. Moving over here is like transitioning from the NL West to the AL East.

I will not take "tact" lessons from you, sir.

We're more like feral children being introduced to civilization for the first time. ;)

You don't realize just how loosey-goosey that place was until you start coming somewhere like here or SoxProspects.

Don't worry guys, I took some "taming" too. got myself banned from SoSH simply because I wouldn't calm down.

I concur with Bellhorn. Yaz is one of the nicest and most positive posters around.

On the topic of Papi "getting bored", I think we would all love to see him play longer if he can keep this up.

That said, I really want him to go out on his terms. The last thing I would want to see is for him to try to keep playing when he clearly no longer has it. Go out on top, Papi!

Yaz is also a Minister, for Pete's sake!! And very possibly the only minister who'll even speak to me. Doesn't that get him a little slack?? :)

Seems like MVP is the moderator hahaha

The title is oks man, no big deal.

As I said im the game thread, JH should convince Papi to stay another year, he is still very productive.

It makes me feel like a wildling over here

We'll see where things stand when October rolls around. If Papi is still tattooing the ball all over the place, I have my doubts he'll walk away from 7 figures to play for the team in 2017. Especially if we are a competitive playoff bound team this year and look to continue the trend next season.

Nice or not, s*** posting will not be tolerated. LOL! Jk, Yaz.

I agree that a better title was needed, so based on the subject of the initial post, let's make this the Official David Ortiz Retirement Discussion Thread.

On the actual subject of the thread, I don't see Ortiz coming back no matter how well he is playing at the end of this season. Not after a full season of standing ovations, farewell gifts, and Jumbotron slideshows.

Hmmm. I guess using a hook in the title is not allowed, nor any literary licence. I'll be a good boy and try to be plain jane.

BTW, if it's your sh_t, I am sure it's just dandy.

I'm out of here.

If you were trying to use a hook, then it wasn't an effective one. I like knowing what the thread's about before I click. There's no need to be complete generic vanilla, but a thread topic is about the topic of the thread, not a difficult concept.

There's nothing wrong with using a hook for a thread title. But you could have used the entire quote, i.e. "Ortiz: If I Get Bored, They Can Reactivate Me." Just using the first few words of a quote isn't a hook, it's just confusing to people who see it, because this is the Sox discussion forum and your thread title did not appear to have anything to do with the Sox. No one is trying to stifle your creativity, we're just trying to make sure the forum stays an uncluttered and consistent place for Red Sox discussion. I didn't delete your thread, I changed the title. I also didn't threaten to ban you if you didn't post the way I or anyone else wants you to. All I'm asking is that you give your threads clear and understandable titles so as to facilitate discussion and debate.

You are going to earn your money learning and weeding out a whole new group of personalities. I am sure that there are some terrorists who have infiltrated this group of refugees. Ask Yezsir for a raise or OT.

No worries that you changed the name of the thread.

That wasn't the issue that I responded to.

I responded to the crassness of the heavy boot of "MVP." I didn't call his mother a frog or say he lives under a bridge. I was merely intrigued by the comment Papi made and shared that. But he certainly was off-putting with his comments about my thread and intellect.

Since this is a Red Sox forum, be assured that it would have been about the Sox. I'll try to be less misguiding next time or at least more illuminating.

I write articles fairly often and speak publicly almost as often. After doing it now for over 45 years, I tire of bland titles and use ones that I want people to be intrigued by or have their intellect stirred. Just a thing for me .... I'll try not to do that here.

Not everyone has a problem with your post. Stick around and you'll find people here who you can communicate with.

I sincerely hope he is true to his word. Because I am so f***ing sick of him kicking our asses

Well, now I want him to only come back to play the Yankees. Can the Sox sign him to an 18-game contract at the beginning of 2017?
