Right now the Sox have scored 86 more runs than they have given up--that's the highest margin in the AL and a small factoid that suggests, only that, that Farrell could do better than he has.

I doubt he gets fired during the season unless the team just collapses.

I think it's difficult to hear the same voice that has directed the team to two last place finishes before this year. He's gone if we don't make the playoffs. Something needs to be changed. Several players will be back. It won't be complete rebuild situation.

With Farrell at manager, Pythagorus needs to change his equation.

I agree that if we don't make the playoffs, Farrell is gone. I can't see him being fired during the season.

No rebuild whatsoever for this team. Our core is in place with a couple more youngsters knocking on the door. We basically need to fortify our pitching and we are good to go.

I don't think that the idiot factor is that much larger for Farrell than for other managers. They basically are a ship of fools with a small handful that can handle the intellectual rigors of managing a baseball team

they should zip the pitching coach today for no other reason then to send a message. it's amazing what can be accomplished by putting a horse head in someones bed.......

You may get your wish. Carl Willis might not be around long after another night blowpen meltdown.

and stop with Abad already. The guy is ball breaker in any close games.

From Pete Abraham's article on last night's game:

The Sox have 50 games remaining and Lovullo could soon be managing again if the Sox cannot break out of what has been several weeks of desultory play.

Posted
I wonder what Lovullo has been doing thoughout the course of Farrell's moves?

Clenching his teeth and swearing, maybe?

Last night's game was pathetic.

The Sox should've lit up the parade of bullpen guys Giradi had to run out there.

True. They let a lot of opportunities go by. Still they put up 4 runs and had a 4-1 lead going into the 7th inning. It is time for the pitchers to step up and do the job. Giving up 5 runs in the 7th and 3 more in the 8th is not doing the job. It is a surrender.

i was kind of thinking snickering. like he knows he is about to become the next Manager.

The process of having an entire new coaching is indeed an offseason swoop. Right now they know well job securities are on the line. It would be great to dispose a few players too with the staff remake.

I think Lovullo will get a job somewhere, I can't see him succeeding Farrell. It's a bad vibe.

They didn't sign him to a long term extension to have him go manage somewhere else. He's the next guy,

Abraham knows something. Just trust me on this, he wouldn't leak something like that out, without meaning. He has been in Farrell's corner for all his life since his pitching coach days here. Of course, his call on the events, as he only wants to see it. He must have heard some inside whispers.

I agree. Willis may well be going as well. Either he can't figure the pitching staff out or the entire staff is totally tone-deaf to any instruction. Either is possible.

trust me no one sits beside a manager for this long without communicating with him. His job is to talk and suggest. If you think that Farrell is blocking out the voice of his "bench coach" then good for you. I don't pretend to have any idea what will happen long term but personally I would like to see them go outside of the organization if they decide to make a change. I was opposed to signing him long term as a bench coach. Kind of does look at first that if they decide to let Farrell go then Lovullo will get the job. I'm sure that some will be happy. Farrell and Lovullo appear to be on the same page.

My last comment about John Farrell is that a good coach puts players where they have the greatest chance to perform successfully. I do not think that he does this on a regular basis. Kind of like he tends to throw them out there in peculiar positions and situations and times hopes that they will surprise us all. Not happening very often. Regardless of what anybody thinks Wright should have been able to do as a pinch runner it was an absolutely stupid move. Color it anyway you want to - color comes out stupid everytime. Does it merit being fired - no - the interim guy is and has been his right hand man.

I disagree with almost all of the comments about Farrell's decisions, which I think have been fine.

But I would fire him today on general principles. Think of him as heifer who needs to be sacrificed. If the players aren't in the locker room eating chicken and drinking beer during games, they ought to be.

I also have my doubts about Dombrowski. Most of his acquisitions have not measured up to the price paid. Indeed, Price, Abad, Pomeranz, Ziegler, and Kimbrel have been demonstrably worse than advertised. Young's OK, but on the DL. Hill is not OK.

I hope you realize when you say it's the manager's job to make the players successful, you are taking them off the hook. If they strike out with the bases loaded, it's Farrell's fault Error by Benintendi leading to two unearned runs--Farrell's fault. Wright injures himself by stupidly getting too big a lead, Farrell's fault. Kimbrel walks 4 guys in the 9th, blame it on the manager. Lack of clutch hitting and low RISP OPS, John did it. My favorite is when Farrell takes a starter out. If the bullpen screws up, Farrell took him out too soon. If the starter gives up too many runs, he didn't get the hook soon enough (even though the bullpen stinks).
