Is it me, or does this seem to happen far more than it should with injuries to Sox players?

It's not at all you. I sometimes wonder if the Red Sox front office blows a lot of smoke in the direction of the fans.

I think it is just you.The Sox have had quite a few on the DL, but I don't think it particularly out of line with what most teams go through. Swihart crashed into the wall, I am told Holt banged his head when trying to dive for a ball, Young got a typical injury for an older guy who extends when running the bases. Hamstrings leave ones leg black and blue from near the groin to the knee and take 6 to 8 weeks to heal. Too bad for us as he was playing well. Ortiz is one bad step from being out for a while.

We had 7 of our best hitters in the lineup today but they ran into a guy throwing well. One more good hitter in the lineup would not probably meant much with Price giving up 4, but I still advocate bringing up our best talent to make Farrell's job easier. Holt may take longer than expected while Swihart is still not close.

I'm starting to entertain the idea of us becoming sellers this July.

The thing is, the guys I'd put on the block are either on the DL (Holy & Swihart), severely overpaid (Ramirez), booted off the 40 man roster (Castillo & Craig), just plain unwanted (Buchholz, Brentz, Kelly, Owens & Johnson) or a combination of these situations (Sandoval).

What was his initial test though? An X-ray? X-rays are good for the average person who's livelihood doesn't depend on being a pro athlete. Sometimes I think they should just not pass GO & go straight to the MRI.

Agree.

Sure, MRIs are pricey, but it's seems insignificant, compared to player contracts.

I'm not sure. i thought they always did MRI in those situations but maybe that isnt accurate? while watching it happen it looked like a tear or something more than a simple "pull" or "tug".....

It's kinda weird though. I've read conflicting opinions that the Red Sox organization has one of the best, most modern, and knowlegable medical staffs & facilities in all of MLB. Players are really impressed when they sign with us. Yet, they seem to botch a lot injuries from the get go. ERod's knee for example. Maybe their overall care, when all is said and done, is top notch. But their initial diagnosis seem lacking.

I'm not talking about the number of injuries, I'm talking about the seemingly inaccurate initial diagnoses of the injuries. I don't think our number of injuries has been particularly out of line with the norm. Plus we have not lost any of our 'star' players.

It just seems like we get a lot of initial diagnoses that suggest an injury is not that bad, only to hear a couple of weeks later, after further tests, that the injury is worse than it was initially thought to be.

NOOOOOOOOO!!!

I would not sell the farm in any desperation move to try to win it all this year, but I would also think we are far from being sellers. Of course, that could change over the next 3 weeks.

If we become sellers, will you sell Price and Porcello if there's an interested team?

Interesting situation.

I meant sell vets: free agents to be Uehara & Tazawa and last options Buchholz & Hanigan. Maybe Young or Kelly.

I didn't mean sell the farm, unless we're talking Owens & Johnson. I'm done with those two, even though one could argue we're selling low.

Nope, even if the Sox can't fix what ails this team , the Sox should just stand pat until the off season.

Teams that need to rebuild are sellers, not teams that just need some help.

If we're out of it, we should sell Uehara and Tazawa, and if anyone wants Buch, Kelly or Hanigan, then sell them too.

I'm not saying hand these guys away, and if we think we want Tazawa back next year, maybe trading him would hurt those chances, but there are several tazawa type RP'ers in the FA market every winter.

We could get something pretty good for our two RP'ers. That's better than nothing. Even if we just get decent prospects, maybe we can flip those prospects this winter as part of a bigger package to land a quality pitcher.

I'm not proclaiming us sellers just yet, but if we keep playing like this we might be.

Of course not. That's why I don't think we're going to be sellers. Nobody is going to want what we're willing to sell.
