Not much to scout. Hoping they would have to use their bullpen. Top of the 5th, bases loaded, nobody out A's 7-Rays 0. Finally Cash pulls the plug on Smyly who looked like he was ready to cry. He really was lousy. Maybe the Rays are dumb enough to use up their better relievers.

The Sox should sweep this three game series and go into the break with momentum.

The Sox should sweep the Rays, but I'd be satisfied with winning the series.

They played today, so I think he's talking about today's game, though I didn't watch it.

I thought so too at first, then I looked at the game score and it was 0-0. And Smyly pitched last night. Hence my confusion.

Ah. Then I will join you in your state of confusion.

Wadda ya know/ I watched 5 innings of replay!! Who replays games at 1 o'clock in the afternoon?

How do I do my penance?

I know. I won't talk about Mookie Betts for en entire week.

You're confused? You should see my red face. I checked Comcast, and from noon to 3 today was a program that's called "Lunch With the Rays!" Honest! I have paid less and less attention to my friends up the road this season. They can't really beat anyone except us!

Except for 4 odd years, I've lived here in Ft Myers since 1978. Back in the Day my wife and I rode p to a game at the Trop. An easy ride; the place is right of 295. That was my last visit to Tropicana Field!

I'll check out the Oriole's game tonight, but I'll check first that it's not a stupid replay!\

Come to think of it, maybe I was the only one watching!

We've had ex-players come back to haunt us, but what Daniel Murphy is doing to his ex-team this year is unbelievable. He has 21 RBI in 13 games against the Mets.

It really is amazing. 10 of those RBIs came this weekend.

I've been sitting back and watching him rack in the numbers for my fantasy team as well, so I'm a happy camper all around.

9:25 PM. Moncada just hit a s-run HR that is still goig. Dead left field. He has also singled and stole base. I found this game on MLB.com, and 5 minutes later Moncada homers! How's that for good luck

Watching Lester right now pitching a good game against the mets. Ughhh

He's pitching a gem, in a pretty big game for him and the Cubs, for this time of year.

Money pitcher in october. Interesting to see if the cubs can finally get to the world series. A cubs vs sox world series would be off the top with the ratings.

I was listening to the radio feed of yesterday's Houston Astros game and the announcers were talking about the old practice of in-season exhibition games. I remember that the Yankees and Mets used to play a Mayor's Trophy game for charity each year. Some teams would play a game against one of their minor league affiliates. That practice has been long since abandoned, probably largely due to the lack of open dates. Once single admission doubleheaders were eliminated, there are very few open dates on the schedule. Until the late 70's, teams had off either Monday or Thursday, sometimes they had 2 off days.

Anyway, back to the Astros broadcast. They mentioned that the Astros had an in-season exhibition game against the Detroit tigers at the Astrodome in 1973. There were a few interesting points about that game:

  • Jerry Lewis played first base (not sure for which team) and went 1 for 1 with a walk -- that's right-- The Nutty Professor Professor
  • Billy Martin, the manager of the Tigers who was well passed his playing days, pinch hit and struck out
  • The Astros played a regular season game that same evening against the NY Mets

It was a different time.

I did a fact check on this. The Astros did not play a regular season game later that evening. Bad research by the Astros research department. Another tidbit about the game is that Leo Durocher was the Asto manager that season.

We really resuscitated the Twins. They are kicking the crap out of the Indian pitching the last 3 days.

We resuscitated the Tigers also. We have a knack for doing that.

Me picking anyone in a bet is the kiss of death.

And they still stink, BTW. Can't count on them to beat anyone that we need them to beat.

I really feel for Lincecum. I was pulling for him.

Me too. If he accepts a MiLb assignment he could regain his release point and be back from what I have read.
