Yea, I saw that. Weekly visits from the team even.

I guess if you run 5 miles a day and still eat like crazy you don't lose weight. Eating disorder they say.

I know this doesn't bug you all that much Kimmi, but it does me to an extent.

I just can't wrap my head around it maybe. I work my ass off trying to stay in shape just for my own well being. But this guys job is to be a top athlete and gets paid 20 million for 8 months of work. He has mega resources to assist him to be a top athlete.

I know they the trainer said Pablo did great and is in better condition than last year, and the FO was pleased. But really.....? I bet there isn't one person on that team that wouldn't send him packing if they could dump him.

Last year I hung in there more than most people and thought Pablo would turn it around. I was wrong.

If he is just average this year I think it will be a huge win.

I agree very much with you here. The Sox spin has to be that they "monitored" that fool this off -season to save face with the fan base. If anyone is really satisfied and believes that they in fact monitored him very closely, it is the same as just saying that they are absolutely incompetent. If he can play an adequate third base, I guess most people will be satisfied. I probably will not be because I think we have better options begging for a chance. Players that work hard, care about their fitness and are just flat out better than he is. I'll say it again, i don't think that anyone in that front office or any member of the coaching staff is pleased with what they saw when he came through the door. If he doesn't perform early, I think that his days in Boston will soon be over.

I don't think it's a stretch to say that the Sox have about $78 million riding on Panda's 2016 season. Because if he isn't an appreciably better player this year than he was last year, he's a writeoff.

Raphael Alvarez, his personal trainer, says that he is fine. Better shape than last year, quicker, ready to go. We should have no concerns. All is good. No more worries. His trainer says so.

He was starting to decline while he was with the Giants. His hitting against lefties was atrocious and it got worse in his first year with the Red Sox. His fielding was bad last year too, and it seemed to be in part caused by his weight. He obviously did nothing to lose weight and he is another year older. I don't see how we can realistically expect much improvement from him
Posted
The only reason to expect improvement from Sandoval is that he can't realistically be any worse than last year.
Agreed, but I don't think significant improvement is a realistic expectation. He might be marginally better, but no enough to help the team. We'd be better off with Holt playing full time.

If he's worse, can we not blame it on bad luck?

It is bad luck. It's bad luck there was someone on this organization dumb enough to sign that fat-ass. There's no excuse, all of the warning signs were there.

But think of all the marketing opportunities! So many panda hats!

I'm just preparing for the "he can't be any worse" than last year so that has to be a good thing crap to start popping up. Travis Shaw can play third base. Holt is a utility player and a good one but Shaw I hope will get a serious look before this is over.

Yes they were. Even if you put aside his weight issue his offensive numbers were is consistent decline the previous 3 years in SF. That , to me, was THE warning sign. Signing a player that is trending downward to a multi-year deal that pays him about twice as much as he had been receiving was a hideous move. Then ad in his age and weight and that deal was a REAL no brainer. As in no one with a Brain should have made that deal. Of course some would argue that there was no way to expect him to perform so poorly. Lol.

My expectation for Sandoval for 2016 is that he has a modest early season...not enough bad to cause more controversy than we have already seen but nothing spectacular either. The cooler spring weather combined with Pablo not having had enough time in season for his usual in season gorging to have caught up to him should make it possible for him to at least go out there and not fall apart early in the year. Remember also that the numbers that are in decline are the numbers he produced going into FA. So we can continue to blame the guys that are no longer here for having signed him and the guy that was their boss that is still here. But hard to hold Pablo responsible for those middling numbers. That is what he was and that is what they decided was worth close to $20m per.

However it will be the warmer summer weather combined with having been back in season a long enough time for Pablo to be back in trouble again. In season is when Pablo puts on the bulk of his weight. Now he is starting each season at a different place, a notch higher on the fat ladder than the season before and is a year older again as he was last year. I expect it to start to catch up to him in early June. At that point he might end up completely off the table via injury or his play will be in full fledged decline again. Maybe he can take them deep enough into the season for somebody else to take them home playing 3rd. That is the best I can see happening.

John Henry himself has revealed that Pablo's body fat content is down to 17% from 21% last year.

Yes, I know, that's a scary thought...

21%? That's the biggest crock of s*** I have ever heard. I competed at 26% BF last year in a couple strength competitions, and was way lighter than Pablo. In fact, I dropped 36 pounds since January, and I'm still above 21% and Pablo is way goddamn fatter than I am. That's making ******** an art form.

No, you see, he's built like the Iron Sheik. Totally believable...

Aahahaa. Right. No freakin way is he 17%. No way.

This thing is starting to just become funny.

On Sandoval weight:

Werner "It's disappointing"

Farrell "He's looks good, he dropped 20 pounds"

Pablo " I haven't stepped on scale during the offseason"

Henry "I hope they can fix his weight before opening day"

DD "He's done very well"

And now the 17% thing.

At this point it is just bizarre.

They are actually just making it worse. They should just say, "we are fine with his progress and he'll be ready for the regular season" and say NOTHING ELSE.

All this backpedaling by management is not helping anything. It is like they are looking at the reactions to their backpedaling on Pablo's weight and decided to just trot out a bigger management figure to tell a bigger lie hoping people would stop believing their eyes and believe the bigger lie. Classic baseball management especially in this town.

They have trotted everybody out now. So I expect they can't screw this up worse than they have. There is nobody else to trot out there.

The biggest concern on his weight is not hard to understand.

1) His problem period regarding weight gain is in season

2) He starts this in-season period heavier than any other from what I can see in past material and current information

3) His weight was obviously an issue last year, probably more so than at any time in his career...also makes sense since it is weight/age that is the concern

So he struggled with the weight last year. He is starting this year heavier and obviously older than at the start of any other season in his career. Seasonally, it is the baseball season itself that is the period when he tends to gain the most weight.

Interesting. I'm glad that you have posted this as I have all along maintained that Pablos real weight is kept confidential. Everyone seems to lie about their weight. That guys is way fat!!!!! He must be over 25% but we will never know. And really, what will come of all this? Nothing. The guy has a guaranteed contract for serious mullah and apparently no desire to be fit.

Sox fans are stuck with this lump unless he becomes injured. I don't see him being benched if he does not put up career averages either. The Sox f***ed up.

You ar killing me here. fatso fatsoval strikes again. I don't know a lot about much but what I do know I like to think I do know. body fat 17% he aint.

It concerns me that Pablo has been so mindlessly neglectful of his career. I really expect very little from him in 2016. It also concerns me that his weight has become a distraction to the FO. The fact that they planted the false story from Farrell that Pablo had lost 20 lbs and now they are circling the wagons about his BMI makes me think that they are upset with him and concerned that they have made a big mistake signing him.
